Details: Built for Eddie Van Halen, this 1993 Chevrolet pickup is known as the “Boyd’s Hauler”. The truck was originally designed by Chip Foose in 1993 and built at “Hot Rods By Boyds”. Included with the sale, for the first time ever will be an Eddie Van Halen autographed EVH brand prototype electric guitar. The prototype was used in the development process for the redesigned Wolfgang Special. This is a new model in the EVH brand line of instruments, set for worldwide release in 2010. Rounding out the auction package will be a pair of office EVH brand striped sneakers and the original hand drawn rendering of the truck you see pictured here. Boyd Coddington achieved worldwide fame for his understated elegant approach to design, while maintaining respect and dignity. Boyd’s creations never wasted energy. The EVH Boyd’s Hauler is no exception. Built exclusively for Eddie Van Halen, the Hauler began its life as a brand new everyday 1993 Chevy 1500 1/2 ton, shortbed pickup. The original motor was replaced by a Corvette LT1 5.7L 350cid V8 and complimented by a 700R4 automatic transmission. The truck was lowered and modified to accept a Corvette independent rear suspension. Up front, the Hauler features a billet grille and a sleek front bumper/air dam. The back end sports a rolled pan and recessed license plate. It wouldn’t be a Boyd creation without the right shoes, hence the one-off 16″ and 17″ asymmetrical billet wheels and “big and bigger” set of BFGoodrich tires. The truck was upgraded to a set of 20″ and 18″ one-off wheels designed and built by Chris Coddington. The truck has been fitted with a custom stainless steel exhaust system by Magnaflow and is rounded out by a custom audio system courtesy of Memphis Audio and installed by Extreme Audio and Customs of Riverside, California.

    Ed is awesome.
It’s possible to buy his guitars, shoes, and vehicles. Aside from all the cheesy KISS stuff that can be purchased, what Ed has available to own is unheard of in the industry. Sure, the price of this will be very steep and should be. If I had money to buy it, I would in a heartbeat.

    AWESOME Truck!

  • Dave Gunger

Looks alot better than when I saw it at your house in April of 2008! I’ll have to send you a letter about my 8 minutes of glory at “5150″. Don’t be mad…..I didn’t touch anything! What are you gonna do with that old Ford truck?

  • Pete

I’m not sure this necessarily belongs in an auction of classic autos, like that baby from the 1930′s, but one man’s pickup truck from the 90′s is another’s outrageous bid I suppose.

    Cheers!

  • joe pac

EVH put out a new album

  • http://vhnd.com Robert D

In reading the article it says “Wolfgang Special”, do this infer that a cheaper version of the Fender Wolf is going to be unveiled at the NAMM show this week?

  • KTC5150

I like the one-off striped rims & the frankenstriping along the sides….BALLZY engine!!! I doubt it will sell as well as his 2 ’56 Chevys from last year, which sold for $85,000 & $90,000…

  • robs

again more shit a fan cant buy wheres the music

  • http://www.vhnd.com Pat G

Sweet truck built by a master in the field, but will we ever

  • VHIII_1998_

i always liked 93 chevy trucks,

  • jd0777

The truck is ok. What would be better is VH recording a new CD. Eddie always says he has tons of material for a new CD. Well? Lets have it! Its better to see you on stage then posing in front of a truck Eddie. Rock On!!

  • Simon

give the finger to the rock ‘n’ roll singer

  • freddiegirl

I like the truck…and it’s nice to see pics of Eddie looking healthy…..
Okay, I would’ve preferred news about upcoming music and tour as well.

  • arthur_bishop1972

    Duck and Rob5150:

Maybe the truck will put out an album of new material and go on tour and we can go see it.

  • Keith

Again I say … Why cant VHND call VH’s wife/pr manager and get an official statement ??? How hard could it be. They have the contacts and clout or else they wouldnt be allowed this site. Common VHND, whats the problem. Also start moderating these idiots cuz the rants off subject et all is really irritating. Hello ???

  • chris.omeara

The new Van Halen album will be a photo album…

With pictures of trucks in it…

  • Johnny

Throw youre gear in that fucker and go jam some gigs eddie…. OVER…..

  • http://vhnd.com Robert D

Hello, didn’t anyone read the article? It says in there “Wolfgang Special” does that infer that Fender is putting out a new version of the Wolfie? NAMM starts today.

  • ClubfootKolby

SAMMY HAS BETTER CARS THIS, AND ALWAYS HAS NEW MUSIC

  • dirtyfacedkidinagarbagecan

Eddie has better cars than this and better music.

    Keith:

I’m wondering too at this point what is truly goin on in the VH camp, but I stand by what I’ve said numerous times:
If VH with dave wasnt working, I truly think we would have heard something by now. Look at it this way….the tour ended about 2 years ago. There hasnt been ONE word from dave whatsoever. NADA. Doesnt anyone around here think thats just a tad bit odd? Sure I’ve heard the “gag order” comments, and to a point I agree….but that must mean that VH is doing SOMETHING no? When the 96′ fiasco went down there were open letters wrote etc. Dave went on howard stern to share his side of the story and who can forget the “eddie sucks” chant at (i think)outside the MTV music awards when dave responded: eddie doesnt suck…he just made a little mistake. I just dont think dave would have wasted any time sitting around this long without saying anything if he was no longer part of the group. I know that no matter what I write here, eventually the truth will come out. I agree with many here that they should just come clean and throw us a bone already. BUT I sware I have this gut feeling that something is in the works. I’m thinking (if it does happen)the name of the album is going to be called: “Encore” and the release date with be aprils fool day.
Remember….there’s always the calm before the storm….

  • Myron Philpot

Why does the description mention a guitar will be included “for the first time” in the auction. His two Chevies that sold at B-J’s last year included Wolfs with paint jobs and chrome trim to match.

The truck itself isn’t bad. I like the understated Franken-stripe down the sides; more subtle than a whole truck of stripes. However the rims are fugly and gotta go, no questions. Also, who marries a ‘Vette LT1 with an automatic?! There should be a Constitutional Ammendment against automatic trannies. Period.

  • Russ

The 6 disc player is loaded with VH music demos!!!

  • TheTruthHurts

“This isn’t the truck news desk!!1!!”
    Sorry.
    Couldn’t resist.

  • http://mewisemagic van halenerd

i have to agree with dirty duck..they would not have posted the new years photo ,even though its an old pic,if they werent still together.daves silence says a lot. after vh3,and the last 3 tunes they made with hagar,im sure ed wants to make sure he gets it right this time around..it will be worth the wait..

  • KB

Goodness; is this what it has come to? Actually putting information out on a truck that would better used for hauling around lawn equipment than going on the auction block, or sitting in the parking lot of a NASCAR event?

I have been a loyal fan for close to 30 years, and have seen many, many shows. The brilliance of Ed’s playing is unquestionable, but listening to the same thing without any new stuff becomes boring, even from the Master himself. I truly wish that the band would put out a statement, at least, saying “Thank you for the years of support, it was fun, but we’re done.”, or “We’re working on new material and we’ll see you soon”. Either way, I think fans can deal with it and put Van Halen in to their respective place in history.

There is marketing genious in suspense. But suspense with no end in sight? Where are we?

  • Panama Red

The best recent indicator that VH is up to something was the holiday greeting that was posted on this site. Afterall Dave was included in the picture, right? They didn’t airbrush him out of it like when VH replaced Mike’s image from their old album photos with Wolfie’s picture on their official site. Remember that B.S.? That didn’t even make sense. Bitterness. Petty, petty bitterness.
I hope Van Halen does put out a new album. But Van Halen sure doesn’t seem like the same band anymore that I use to worship. The connection and authentic dynamic seems to be missing now. It just seems to me that Eddie is off-track and on a disingenuous path. I just want to know where Eddie’s love for the music went. It’s seems like he almost has to muster the courage just to feign interest now.
When I post on this site it’s like I have a split-personality. One day I’ll post something extremely positive about Eddie and the band. Then, the next day I’ll post something like this. I can’t help it, my love for Van Halen is mixed with feelings of frustration and disappointments in the decisions that the band has made in the last 10 or 15 years.
I’ll always have my memories and be thankful for the music VH did put out there for all of us.

  • Scottso

Panama Red, I couldn’t agree more!!

  • Phil

I’ve seen that truck before, still not impressed. If he did the EVH stripes all over it, maybe. Um yeah, Isn’t there supposed to be an album and tour THIS year? I was looking through a stupid tabloid mag the other day. The pop singer Leona Lewis states the last time she was starstruck was when she met David Lee Roth IN THE STUDIO recently. May there be a ray of hope?

  • http://none Dirty Duck

    Phil:

Now ya got me thinkin’ again!!!! ;)

  • Karl

Maybe Van Halen needs a new guitarist…

  • Simon

Do you know what? I think Eddie Van Halen has never got over his confidence being knocked by poor VHIII reviews and sales back in ’98. Why else would his productivity suddenly vanish? I think he felt invincible when Van Halen successfully (commercially speaking) replaced Roth with Hagar. So I’m sure it was a huge shock to his ego when it didn’t work out with Gary Cherone. I think he’s scared of producing new material that bombs. And in the context of his career, I think this is quite understandable. I think another tour banging out the oldies MkII is the best anyone can hope for.

  • JIMBOB

Shoe Salesman Guitar Salesman Amp Salesman and now ………….. Car and Truck salesman your kinda going in reverse Eddie put out some new music for godsake and stop doing spring cleaning !!!!!!!!!

  • phillster

PHIL: What was the date on that tab mag? What tab mag was it?
    Leona Lewis(whoever that is)said RECENTLY?Holy Shit I hope
this means what i think it does!!

  • kayser sozay

    Panama – well said.

Dirty Duck – I agree with you about Dave’s silence being a sign he’s still in the band. We all know Dave. He talks every chance he gets. The fact he’s not talking means the band still has their hooks in him.

However, I don’t Dave’s silence means anything as far as new music is concerned.

  • alexandre

    I think Simon is correct!

  • andym

AWESOME!!! New material to buy from Eddie!!! A truck AND a signed guitar!!!!! Woo-hoo everybody…here’s your chance to get SOMETHING from VH in 2010!!!!!!!

    AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • andym

I forgot to mention this is probably a house cleaning move from Janie…

JANIE – “Eddie, we need room in the 5-car garage so you should sell that piece of crap truck from 1993 that you never drive.”

EDDIE – “You’re right, schnookums. I got that when Sam was in the band so that means it’s a bad memory. That’s also from a time when I was productive and actually put out new music for the fans. Now that I have you, those days are over! I love you Janie!!!”

JANIE – “I know you do…I own you.”

  • Tommy Boy

Retards…screw you guys, I’m going home!

  • hawk51

    hey andym,NOW THAT WAS FUNNY!

  • Trouser Snake

    Dirty Duck,

I read an article where Alex Van Halen said that “encore” was going to be the name of the new album!!! Google up: Alex Van Halen let’s album title slip.

Also, I just read that Paiste has a new Alex Van Halen signiture 24″ ride cymbal coming out in 2010, called Reverend Al’s Big ride. So hopefully something is a BREWING in the Van Halen camp!!!!
