Happy Holidays from Van Halen

  • Steve

Everyone is making me start to think that Ed is right. That no matter what they do most of you WILL be very critical. At first people were critical that nothing is ever said. Now they send us a nice message and look how people complain. People, don’t you realize what VH just told us. That they are together still. There are modern day miracles and this is an extremely good sign. They have now been together with NO drama released for at least 2 years. Amazing…..

  • http://vhnd Emery

As I read more on here I can`t beleave how some people can be.The way I see it if new music comes it will be great not like alot of the crapola thats out to day.

Remember it`s not like it was 20yrs ago to put out new stuff. The bands have to put way more upfront now. It all takes time and I for one just don`t see the big rush just to have new music from a great band. So lets all be nice I think thats the best way.

  • BTD

Ed Shut up and play yer guitar!Band make a friggin statement on your future… you self centered A-holes!! ANd before I get any flame mail I’ve seen every tour since 79 I’m a die hard fan and would pay also to have Ed tune his guitar but enough is enough already.

  • Karl

Steve, Kimberly, FAMAC seriously? Twenty stock words from the PR wife that could have come off any faceless corporate Christmas card and a two and a half year old pic of the band (I’m not even going to count a 3 minute Photoshop lash up by Wolf) and this speaks volumes to you about the good health if the band? Jesus, I do more than that at Christmas for people I don’t even like, let alone for people like RickieVanWhalen who paid $700 for a ticket or myself who flew across the Atlantic just to see ‘em at MSG. I guess Ed was right, eh, they go to all that effort and all us ungrateful bastards do is complain!

  • Kimberly

Yes I am being serious. There’s a little saying that is when its out of your hands there is point in whining and crying because you can’t do anything about it anyway. You all should take note. They left us a legacy with plenty of music to keep us smiling everyday. Big surprise! Not everything always works in your favor. Be happy with what you get. Cause if you aren’t what exactly makes you think they are going to work hard to give you more? Being ungrateful is an ugly characteristic in my opinion. I may want and crave a tour and more musc and all that, but I am not gonna sit around cursing Eddie for taking time off. Its his life and he can do what he wants. End. of. story.

  • Dooley

    K…

all good points you made. But Ed still needs a non-whining kick, tough love style. Kinda like…you guys are great, but c’mon now. Remember what John Belushi (RIP) said in Änimal House…It ain’t over till we say it’s over!!

  • mikey

If you read what Eddie said he, Alex and Wolfie are a band. And if Dave wants to sing then maybe they should give him a call. In other words don’t hold your breath waiting for a new album in 2010.

  • Dave Bridge

Trouser snake, or is that wishful thinking.I agree with BTD

  • Dave Bridge

Karl Says “they go to all that effort and all us ungrateful bastards do is complain!”

Once upon a time they would have shifted heaven and earth to play for those ungrateful bastards.
Maybe Ed just forgets that without those ungrateful bastards he would have had to get a real job and work!

  • http://cheeseburgerpicnic.com Skutch

I agree with Mikey, I’m not holding my breath for a new album. If they record, great. If not, that’s okay too. But I also agree with Kimberly that people are whining about something they can do nothing about. I doubt Ed visits this site, but I bet anything that Wolfie does. Why can’t people just be happy that Ed is healthy and is in a good relationship. Just quit whining people.

  • VHIII_1998_

Dave B, I agree with you. without fans to pay $700.00 to sit front row there would be no money to pay the bills, but he could retire van halen and do something else musically and we wouldn’t have a reason to get on this site and argue with each other. I just hope they dont do the same crap and carnival that kiss does. I would lose full respect for them I personally think that VH is a better band than kiss and I have all the respect for ED and whoever he chooses to jam with. We all agree and Disagree and that is what I like about this web site and comment board.

  • Karl

Way to miss the point, Kimberly…

  • Bluesbro

Thanks guys, and I hope you have a great 2010. By the way, the Photoshopped bow is pretty weak, but I love the worked over and used look of the guitar … so much better than a pristine new one.

  • Kimberly

I just wish everyone would stop complaining. Thats all.

  • Marco

Good point Kimberly. We have a lot to be thankful for. Something else to think about…Over the years Ed has produced and recreated replica guitars, amps, picks, pedals and even cool shoes for the public. As for those who keep complain and can’t play music for shit, at least Ed is offering his signature products to people who love playing music or like collecting. I know a number of other guitar players who could do the same, but they don’t. Some of you probably will say he’s cashing in, but your not Eddie Van Halen, so stop thinkn for him…ungreatful I think not.

  • kenny

if they “tour” this yr it better not be the same old shit!!
they better have release a new cd….

  • Dooley

Ed said he’s got a enough tunes for 10 albums that could be worked up and released. Dave said at the pre-tour presser that VH was now a new band with a future. Did they mean it? Maybe they did, sure hope so. But enough time has elapsed now. At least they should say something about the current status. The complaints are all about the lack of communication. To those complaining about the complaints, that’s showbiz. But we all still love Kimberly.

  • ClubfootKolby

SARA EVANS SHOULD BE THE NEW VAN HALEN SINGER, THEN WE’LL GET SOME NEW MUSIC

  • DiamondDLR

Karl tells it like it is.

VH sent the lamest “Happy New Year” message in the history of the world and somehow that’s a sign of good things to come? VH has left us in the dark for 12 years, now a 2 second PR blurb is supposed to make up for it?

  • freddiegirl

    Er…Happy New Year?
I agree….we were left with a lot of great music so I’m glad of that and happy I could see VH with DLR one last time if that’s what it was. New music would be a great bonus though…and for what it’s worth I think we will get a new cd at some point. Yeah, it’d be nice if the band could make a statement but perhaps they have good reasons for not doing so at the present time. I for one am happy that Ed is healthy and in a (hopefully) good relationship. Seeing him looking like the crazy cat lady and going down in flames in interviews gave me the major sads. As for MA, yeah it’d be cool if the band could get past their differences to tour as the original lineup but there’s always two sides to a story and if MA is happy where he’s at with Chickenfoot that’s ok too.

  • Trouser Snake

    David Bridge,

Unlike you, I’m not a POSER!!!!!!!

  • RickieVanWhalen

I paid just over $700 for front row at MSG in May 08. This was a great show. I paid $600 for front row on Long Island in Nov 07 and it was so loud it pushed me back into my seat. On Long Island, Ed did his solo on the edge of ramp and that is where I was. I could have touched his feet if it wasn’t for the 7 foot security guard ready to boom bash me.

  • Kimberly

Thanks Dooley lol:) I love you too!

  • Magic Man

It’s funny but if they are making new music how come there’s been no talk of a producer etc. I don’t know seems we would have heard something.

  • SWADE

I would bet a large amount of money that Van Halen had nothing to do with this message.

  • Ron

Did they actually send this message to you or did you just lift it from Facebook? It was posted there a couple of days ago.

I notice there’s no mention of 2010 bringing a new album. What do you bet that the same message will show up next Jan. 1, with a whole year of nothing in the meantime?

  • Dave Bridge

    Trouser Snake says:

    January 2nd, 2010 at 6:20 pm
    David Bridge,

Unlike you, I’m not a POSER!!!!!!!

Substitute the “P” and thats what you are

  • Steve

    Karl,

Trust me.. No matter what they do people like you will complain. That’s what Ed is saying. I agree with him. Judging from your posts you have proven my point

  • Karl

Steve, you couldn’t possibly be more wrong.

  • http://vhnd.com 51yr old fan

I wouldn’t put to much stock in anything Eddie say’s about music, fans, the band or anything. He seems to be the one complaining about crap. Just say something to the fans.

  • John From Raleigh

Seeing the message on the VHND front page I immediately thought, Weak…. Pathetic… Disappointing

    Let me tell you why….

I love Eddie and I really don’t care what singer he has because combined with Alex’s pounding drums and someone on Bass, that is the “Van Halen” sound.

But come on Eddie, either someone is really giving you bad advice on what the fans want, or you just don’t care. This is the best message your “team” suggested you make.

First up, if you can make it down to the studio to film a 30 second clip for Two and a half men, I am sure you can get someone to come to your house and film you giving a personal message to the fans. You and Alex have been the band for the last 12 years. No excuses about needing Dave to make a “band” video.

    2) Since the fall of ’78 I have purchased all the albums, including “3″, been to most of the concerts, and always rooted for your success and well being. But throw us a bone, in this day and age of instant communication it is not hard to have more contact with the fans then you do. If you don’t want to do it, let Wolfie. But please have someone from the band send the occasional shout out.

    3) Please, please, please put out a video from the last tour. I wasn’t able to spend $$$$ for front row seats but I did get tickets in the nose bleed seats. It was still a great time. I want to relive the experience over and over again. I can’t tell you have many times I have watched, “Live without a Net”. I need something new…

Eddie, I am ecstatic you are healthy; I hope you and your new wife are very happy and I wish you a great new year…

Just please throw us die hard fans the occasional bone. As others have suggested simple clips of you playing the guitar is all it would take. If I was one of your “circle” of handlers I would suggest a 60 second clip of a possible new song followed by a 30 second personal message.

Take care…. Die Hard Fan since ’78

  • darin tullis

release the killer and buy belize

  • Jor-L5150

it’s the uncertainty that irks us.

  • redarrow5150

New album? Buehler, Buehler, Buehler, Buehler…when are you people going to realize they don’t give a shit? I love Van Halen but they have run me over too many times.

  • Jim

Who cares about a holiday greeting. Seriously.
It’s barely into 2010 and people are writing off the album that is coming out in 2010 and never was supposed to come out before that. Apparently, 2010 is almost over.

  • andym

Why do you guys keep insisting on making comments TO Eddie and VH on here??? THEY DON”T READ THIS SITE!!! It’s not a site VH controls!!!

Besides that, the rest of you that REALLY believe that “2010 is Van Halen’s year” and “there’s new music coming” need to climb out of your mommy’s basement and come back to reality. There’s nothing coming anytime soon. I hope I’m wrong on that but a photoshopped holiday greeting posted a week AFTER Christmas (and 3 weeks after Hanukkah for you DLR fans) is pretty lame.

  • Karl

    “THEY DON”T READ THIS SITE!!!”

I wouldn’t be too sure about that after reading the Guitar World interview…

  • Russ

Wow. That’s it? Even Clark Griswald got a subsciption to the jelly of the month club. But the fact that a picture with all of them together on it continues to give me hope……

  • phillster

Jesus; What a bunch of F*ckn cryin` jaded Fags. All your panties in a bunch over a simple picture&message.=VH= could`ve given you worthless whiners a video of each of them walking on water but you all would`ve complained that they can`t even swim, there is NO pleasing you.Sounds like half of you won`t be satisfied until Ed sends his wife to your house & gives you all B.J.`s while apologizing for the way Ed hurt you.
SHAME ON YOU& GROW THE FUCK UP

  • RickieVanWhalen

I am pretty sure the wifey reads this site. I am personally glad she is.

I personally think the problem is that EVH’s music is way too progressive for either Dave or Sam. Do you remember the drama with the new songs with Dave on the greatest hits. DLR apparently had to listen to dozens of tunes before he landed on Me Wise Magic (GREAT TUNE) and Can’t Get This Stuff (Just and OK Tune). You could say the same thing with Sammy and “It’s About Time.” Clearly Sammy was having trouble keeping up. VH3 was obviously the same thing: The music is very progressive and even jazz like.

EVH is evolving well beyond tradition rock jams. I personally love it and wish he would just put out instrumental stuff and rid himself of all the LSD in his life.

I love it even more without the vocals Jannie and Ed.

  • MICAL VEE

The only thing i don’t get is why eddie doesnt release a box set! I’m a huge kiss and ac/dc fan and they gave their fans what they knew they wanted….live concerts, video’s….they are telling their fans thanks! I know some of you say eddie doesnt owe us anything and thats true, but neither did kiss or ac/dc and they gave the poeple what they wanted! To have all that stuff lying around knowing the fans want it,well that says alot!

  • Karl

Russ, that pic is two and a half years old.

RickieVW, I’m not sure that is a problem. Ed’s music has always been a step ahead of rock in general and I think the singers have always had to work hard to keep up. And Me Wise Magic is what keeps me moist about VH – it just shows what magic can still happen when Ed and Dave get together. I think it’s as good as anything they’ve ever produced. I think an album full of that kind of stuff could be right up there with Fair Warning.

  • Karl

Oh, and one of the things that I think is really great about Me Wise Magic is the way it plays to the strengths of Roth’s now more mature voice.

  • Adrian

hell yeah hope to hear you guys blaze through the airwaves soon! Rock on in 2010 =VH=!!!

  • Magic Man

How about the tunes recorded in 2000 that never saw the light of day. thats a good place to start.

  • Jim

Every time that VH said they would release an album, they have. There is no indication that there won’t be one sometime in 2010.

  • Panama Red

I would like to have seen a video posted. Being a fan, it would have been cool to see them in a video together, just for the reason of being able to see them as recently as possible, and to see them Healthy and Happy. I want those guys to live forever. And also to show that the band is still intact with Dave. Which I guess it is or they wouldn’t have posted this picture with him in it.
I hope 2010 brings new kick ass rock and roll from the best rock band in history!

  • DiamondDean

DO U REALLY THINK VAN HALEN WLD HAVE DONE SOMETHING AS DECENT AS WISH A MERRY CHRISTMAS????? GEES THE PIC IS AT LEAST A YR OLD

  • Karl

^ You’ll find Caps Lock on the left of your keyboard…

  • axeshredder

Fools…a song written by van halen telling the future of their fans…really? i laugh my ass off at those here that think Eddies working on a new album…i come here to laugh.lololhahahaha…Chickenfoot is current…Vh is old classic…how can anyone even compare….jealousy most likely…your all purple faced and still holding your breath…thats why eddie doesnt realease anything…because your all kissing his ass….kick it and there will be a new song…an album is way too much to ask
