EVH MySpace: October 29, 2009

From: Eddie Van Halen’s Myspace page:

October 29, 2009
Took a short break and went to Vegas with Janie, Wolfie and Olivia.

Hung out and relaxed, saw three Cirque shows, shopped, checked out the town
and had a good time all around.

Back home now and busy planning Janie’s birthday and working on some stuff
in the studio.

Life is good and I am happy and healthy!

Note that in this picture of Ed and Criss Angel, Eddie’s wearing the original Van Halen silver necklace… we haven’t seen  pictures of him wearing that in a long time. Cool!

Also, a recent post from Eddie’s Twitter (Oct 1st):

Went to see Alice in Chains last night. They kicked ass and it was great to hang with Jerry and the guys again!

Layne Staley rose from the grave and put out an Alice and Chains album before Eddie.

  2. Rich says:

“Back home now and busy planning Janie’s birthday and working on some stuff in the studio.
Life is good and I am happy and healthy!”

Thats what everyone wants to hear!

    STUFF. IN. THE. STUDIO.

Yes. I hope that Ed pulls something special out of that sack he’s been hiding.

  3. Rich says:

And hopefully “stuff” isn’t painting a guitar or putting up blinds.

  4. crazygoji says:

I didn’t know Ed liked Alice in Chains…

  5. Ronald says:

Come on. What’s new. I am a long time fan of VH but now it’s time make some new music together with Dave. The only way off bringing back the vibe of 25 years ago is to compose and write the new stuff with Dave.

  6. Karl says:

Ed’s been good friends with Jerry Cantrell for a long time.

  7. RA 8 1 2 says:

Alice in Chains opened up for VH for parts of the F.U.C.K. tour. Shit…I was just in Vegas too! WHY DIDNT I KNOW!!!! oh well. Maybe he was going to check on the new Cabo Wabo! LOL!

By the way RICH…Love the line about putting up blinds! LOLOLOL! Lets hope he is doing some recording and not just rehearsing.

  8. danoosh says:

just listened to girl gone bad. cmon ed give us a rough idea of what going on..your rocking chair is creaking.

  9. Bluesbro says:

He should have caught a Chickenfoot show :-P

  10. bosox says:

Ed, looks like he had bo-tox. By looking at that picture he is starting to look little like the Governator.

  11. Jim says:

I still can’t believe that Ed is on Twitter.
It must be somebody else (wolfy or janie) who is actually doing it.
I will maintain that Ed does not use a computer to surf, blog, check stuff, facebook, myspace, twitter, etc… and probably doesn’t use a computer at all.

    Either way, cool stuff.

  12. Rodney says:

Working on best of Volume 4 and Guitar Hero Best of Volume 2

  13. Mink says:

Man is it good to see Eddie in good spirits.

  14. Scottso says:

“Took a short break and went to Vegas with Janie, Wolfie and Olivia.”

    A break from doing what???

How do you take a break from doing nothing?!

  15. DLR says:

Where is the new music? All we get is excuses. Can anyone call up Dave and check in with him?????

  16. wilfredvh says:

Hey…Ed is wearing the old “vh’logo necklace…..it looks that he wants to go back to his roots…maybe Wolf made him do it!!

  17. Fab says:

I was lucky enough to see AIC open for VH back in ‘91. A dream come true would be to see these two band tour TOGETHER!

BTW, for those of you that don’t have the new AIC disc, “Black Gives Way To Blue”, GET IT. IT IS GREAT.

  18. TheTruthHurts says:

It’s great to hear from EVH…

…if that really is EVH. Listen, I’m all for a new album from Eddie and whoever, but honestly, it sounded like PR damage control. “And…um…I’m healthy! Really healthy! And happy, too! I am healty *and* happy. Life is good. Did I mention I’m healthy? Oh, and…um…in the studio working on some stuff. Definitely not sick…nope. I’m healthy. And happy.”

  19. Karl says:

    Scottso, that’s funny! :-)

  20. John says:

What would a new VH album sound like?

  21. Pat G says:

Now that Ed is sober and happily married, or so it seems, maybe Mrs.EVH can get him motivated to releasea DVD, a new album, box set, a gurguling sound, or some sort of music with Dave. For fucks sake, we’ve waited 25 years. The fans may not wait much longer. Lets hope he doesnt pull an Axl rose and tease us for another decade with an album that sucked ass!!!!! Hurry up, Ed.

  22. bosox says:

On a side note: Pat the new GNR album is actually decent but the 10 + years no excuse. The only thing I wish was that it was sold as an Axl solo project instead a GNR album.
I hope Eddie is still happy and sober….phew.

  23. Atomic Pete says:

Can’t help but think there is more going on in the
VH camp than we know.Where is Dave? No quotes from him?
Not one picture of him out to dinner or out on the town?
Used to be you couldn’t shut the guy up,now he’s
disappeared? If they new what they were doing they would let us know, ie “were doing a new album”, or “doing another tour”.
But nothing. My guess is Dave is gone and they are trying to figure out what to do. Cheers!

  24. pirate1821 says:

Good question, John. And, therein lies the dilemma. While I liked “Me Wise Magic” and “Respect the Wind”, it was followed up with VHIII. So, where EVH was going to take the band seems to be sketchy. Hopefully EVH doesn’t think it’s 1999 now and think that he should follow up their last record (11 years ago and counting) with a sequel. Hoping that EVH is hungry to put out some good stuff. ‘Cause we know what a hungry and determined EVH sounds like.

  25. DanR1984 says:

    SOMEBODY GIVE ME A SHOT!!!!!!!!

  26. DanR1984 says:

I think Dave may have left us…………..

  27. Top Jimmy says:

Van Halen and AIC have something in common, both bands are trying to pass themselves off as the real deal when they are most definitely not. Both are missing key members who make the band a mere imitation of its former self. At least Alice in Chains has an excuse because Layne Staley is dead. Van Halen has no excuse.

  28. John R says:

OH, this hurts! WHY WHY WHY? I just dont understand what’s going on here!
Most bands that have made the decision to go back in the studio and record, do just that! They go in and dedicate themselves to the art of making an album. Taking everything they want to say and recording it. Most musicians dont take a break until they are done at least when you get to that level they do not!
He just does not seem serious or hungry like he once was. Maybe I am wrong, but I doubt it! I comare him to what Rocky was in the beginning of RockyIII. Rich, and had lost the fire in his belly!
Dont get me wrong I am sure he still loves playing guitar but the Ed we all once knew I think is gone! I will never attack anyone who spends time with their family, but come on. Please someone tell me????
I dont like comparing people but Sammy is just as rich or maybe even more than Ed but he just finished playing clubs for gods sake! Then on top of it partied at the cabo and played 4 days in a row for his B-day. There has to be more than this! I want Van Halen Back!! I want the Southern California Party starters back!
Please, Please Please Ed, come back!

  29. mjc says:

the foot gave us sound bites,ed will not.

  30. sob says:

Doesn’t exactly scream we are recording and putting out new material soon!

does this mean he is retired until the next tour when he needs some money to “pay the rent”?

  31. diamond doug says:

Last Friday: 10/23, A Ct radio station had its weekly concert update program, with Live Nation concert promoter “Jim Koplik”. He stated that Halen had put a hold on an “early spring” date they were holding at Mohegan Sun Arena. Reason being, to finish recording an album and we would see a tour later in 2010…for sure.

  32. BTD says:

“busy planning Janie’s Birthday” WTF? WOW Ed it must take an army of folks days, weeks, wait months to plan a birthday. I mean there’s cigarettes and ummmm and cigarettes, maybe some ballons and a non-alcoholic punch.

Ed just say “hey i have no intentions of creating anything anytime soon, so there you jack asses posting on VHND”. His smiling face is kinda making me cringe these days…what happened to our beloved Edward? Damn it!!

  33. BTD says:

And he posing with Chriss Angel….iiickkkkkk!!!!!!!!!

  34. ROGER says:

im tellin everyone they are getting back together with sam and mike this break for cf and rhcp wasnt just a quincident it was planned so they could get that dave shit out of the way. vanhagar is and will be back this spring!you think sam ,mike eddie were in vegas at the same time ,this would be colosal the true rock hall tour finally hell yes!!!!!!

  35. frattz5150 says:

any one notice the old vh chain on eds neck

  36. rogerz13 says:

I just don’t get it…You have a band like Chickenfoot out there playing and touring and having a blast (and they’re shit), and we get thrown another crumb…Where is the drive and the Rock n’ Roll spirit??? If this doesn’t pan out with Dave I’m hangin it up with these guys…And we’ll also have to rename this The Chickenfoot News Desk…Ah fuck it, sorry for the rant but these guys are frustrating…

  37. ben says:

Good to see Ed happy hope to hear new music soon

  38. Top Jimmy says:

Ed looks like Mr. Miyagi in that picture.

  39. Rick Pride says:

Calm down. You all, give Ed a break. He had hand surgery and it takes 4 - 6 months to properly heal. Give the world’s greatest guitarist EVER a freaking break!! I’m all for Ed taking ample time to heal and be our Guitar God forever!! Ed looks better than ever and I think Dave is just being polite staying back letting Ed get the spotlight as it’s still probably a tender situation and he wants to prove this will work this time. Dave needs Van Halen as much as Van Halen needs him! And between Eddie and Dave they will bring hard rock back to the forefront again. No more Pansy bands and Rap and hip hop blows. They will shatter that shit!!! Their screaming guitars and Dave’s vocals will make the youth wear clothes that fit and the Rock scene will rise again!!!!

  40. mjc says:

johnr, great post.ed fired the guy who relates to the fans on a human level-MIKE.i’m glad for the bootlegs that remind me of the eddie that cared.

  41. chris.omeara says:

Ed has probably warned DLR to save it all until his new boss (Ed) says “Go”, and DLR is not stupid.

I’m sure a new album will be in the works before another tour, but it will be on Ed’s timeline, not ours or any record companies’ (remember the Warner Bros timeline demands that brought us Diver Down?). As much as I hate to wait, I’d rather wait than get a crap album (or another Sammy album).

Face it- Ed and Alex control the band, much like the Gene Simmons/Paul Stanley takeover of KISS back in the day. But that being said, the next album could be GREAT. Bring back Donn Landee and Eddie’s old Marshall Plexi. Treat us to some new music done the old-style VH way. C’mon Ed! You can do it, Bro’!

  42. mjc says:

i have the same vh chain,i gotta polish it.

  43. mjc says:

rick pride if that takes place, and we all want it to,the beers are on me!

  44. Keith says:

“working on some stuff” ? WTF is that shiet? Damn it VHND, can’t you or someone with some clout call up the VH mgmnt (wife & wolfie) and call DLR’S too an get us all a more definitive answer ? How hard could that be ?

  45. Rich says:

Rick, fair play man but you gotta understand that people are fed up of hearing Ed talking about taking holidays and planning shit. First it was the wedding, then Wolfies graduation…now what? A birthday? A christening? If 20 years ago Eddie said this same stuff to the papers I’m sure he’d be a laughing stock.

I just hope what Doug says is true and that there is an album to come out, surely this place would be alive with news if anything got leaked to the press about a new album. It is now the time for Dave to take his spot once again in Van Halen. I just really want to see it. I suppose this news is good news, unlike the dark, dark days of 1999-2003. Wow, nothing happened there.

  46. ringostore says:

Hey maybe Chris Angel can levitate a new VH album? Magically delicious

Or as Doug Henning said “its all an optical illusion!”

  47. VH Dude says:

Chris Angel makes me cringe every time I see him. I can take only a few minutes of his show, but once he starts with the drama queen dramatic this-is-so-dangerous-it-could-be-the-end-of-my-life shit I HAVE to change the channel. Biggest poser wannabe rocker but I’m a magician ever (and trying to be prettier than the ladies around you? not cool). Now he has a new look…what a surprise.

I don’t fault Ed for posing with him in a picture. I’m just damn glad he was himself and gave a thumbs up. Not a sideways peace sign like the douchebag next to him.

  48. Corey D says:

It’s spelled Criss not Chris, get it right people.

  49. Tommy Boy says:

I’d like to petition all douchebags that itch for music from this man and his rock n roll band to sit down, write 25 songs, pick the best twelve and release your own delightfully, delicious highly anticipated recording. And stop bitching….fuckin’ pussies…

  50. CHRIS says:

I can’t understand how people are so negative on everything that Eddie does. ‘It takes 2 to tangle’, remember that phrase?
I hear forever how much of a prick Eddie was and how badly Mikey was treated, how Sammy keeps on telling us how grumpy and mad Eddie is!! Well if he’s that bad then why should he be alive? Everyones against him, there’s so much hatred for the man that made them what they are today. Yet these are the same people that have made millions and a rich lifestyle for themselves!! Lets face it if it wasn’t for Van Halen there would be no Cabo Wabo, Sammy’s a smart business man he used Van Halen to benefit his own empire. If people dont’s get that then they have got blinders on!!
But here is Eddie getting his life back together, he’s in a better frame of mind, surrounded by people that actually care about him, yet people still find it a negative thing?!! I was shocked when I heard that Eddie has got a Myspace, twitter or whatever, got to admit I never thought he would go there, he’s old school Rock n Roll!!! But I doubt it is really him doing the blogging LOL!! And there’s nothing wrong with that!! If it is his new wife doing all the PR for him then that’s cool!! Why people find a negative in that is mindblowing!! The guy has given us fans the greatest soundtrack to our lives, he’s got nothing to prove to anybody, he owes us nothing, everything he gives us now is just a bonus. Even if it’s a porn soundtrack or a blog, or twitter then that’s good for me!! At least he’s survived, happy and is alive to grace us with his amazing gifts. Please people chill out and show the man that this site bears his name some respect.

  51. Dan says:

I am so glad to hear Ed is taking a break again. Screw the album or new music. I have a fever and the prescription is more “nothing”. Starting to really dig the just hanging out updates. I remember back in the day when he pumped music out, I always wondered what he did in his off time. Wow, now we are getting tons of off time updates and no music! I kinda feel like a hungry guy waiting at a hot dog stand, listening to the vendor talk about his vacation but not sure if he is ever going to cook that hot dog in his hand for me. I wanna walk, but damn those hot dogs are good, so I hang around. Everybody wants some, does Ed want some too?

  52. bosox says:

Ed has said it before that he is a musician and not a rock star…perhaps it is true. He just sits at home playing and has no real desire to put out an album. The Ed camp is sooo damn concerned about what they put out that it becomes a real handicap. The best VH albums were created quickly. Ed and the boys over think everything. There is no real drive. I have never really been a big Sammy fan but I have to say CF is damn good and Sammy is really a prolific musician. Ever since he was kicked out of VH he has been on a music making binge and most of it was just bland. You need to break some eggs to make and omelete and he sure has hit paydirt with CF. Ed dont be a puss and put out an album, if you need to heal up then release a VH DLR era live album. Put something out.

  53. Dave says:

Supposedly he’s been working on “stuff” for years…supposedly he’s got enough “stuff” to put together 10 new albums. Hopefully, Dave is part of the creation of this “stuff” and this “stuff” isn’t a new version of his $100 guitar strap or a porno soundtrack.

  54. Brian says:

Finally a Left Handed Wolfgang in January 2010!

  55. Big AL says:

This site has really taken a turn for the worse!

Let me put my umbrella down from all the CRYING you Red Heads (not VH) fans are doing!

You BITCH because you don’t hear from ED!

You BITCH when you do hear from ED!

You BITCH because VH went on tour in 07-08!

You BITCH because VH didn’t go on tour in 09!

You Bitch because there is no new album from VH!

You’ll BITCH when VH records a new album because Dave can’t sing and it won’t sound the same without MA back-up vocals!

Instead of CRYING (all you UNGRATEFULL, Diaper Rashing, no NINNY, Thumb sucking) POSER’S!!!!

Just say THANK YOU to: Eddie and VHND for bringing you update’s!!!!!

  56. Tommy Boy says:

    Wow, Big Al…you feelin’ o.k.?

  57. BTD says:

Al…I’m guessing you have experienced repeated blows to the head.

  58. Dan says:

    Hey Al,

Welcome to the club, you are whining and crying about others whining and crying. Define whining?

All I see is fans getting frustrated that see updates clicking it and hoping to get some kind of useful information that is relevant. I am happy to hear Ed is healthy and enjoying life again. Unless the “Uber” fans feel it fulfilling to get anything from the VH camp that is. I have an interesting observation. Why is it we get detailed information about everything, but when it comes to studio time, we get vague information.

Now look at this link. Especially starting at :20 feels like a running joke about rehearsing. When Wolfgang says, “yeah, we are really excited, his girlfriend looks at him like “what?” and Ed’ wife and publicist looked quickly as well. Ed saying “aheh” than looking at Wolfie like “yeah just keep stringing them on.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ikqiwRHz2I

You know, I appreciate VH as a band, but I feel the majority of VH fans are just frustrated with the bands attitude about making music. Music is what makes Ed and VH relevant. Perhaps if we have nothing good to say, than don’t say anything at all. Fair enough, Van Halen should do so as well.

  59. Skutch says:

Al is dead on. Relax people. Just read the updates and get on with your day. So much drama over nothing.

  60. csixman says:

were in the hell is dave??????????

  61. VH2008 says:

    Dan,

I just watched that video. Heh… I am going to disagree with you there, partner. I think you’re just being paranoid about the possibility that they are actually lying. They don’t look like they’re lying or look suspicious to me AT ALL. It’s kinda funny because they obviously are trying to smile the hole time, as there’s countless photos are being taken.

  62. Rocko says:

You Nailed them Whiners and Bitches on the head Big AL.

  63. mkeruption says:

Just thought I would let you know I hit a new level of frustration with VH today. I was headed somewhere in my car and pulled out my CD case - which other than AC/DC’s Back in Black CD - is the complete library of VH. Know what? I didn’t put anything in the CD player. 1984? Heard it a million times. Fair Warning? Great, but heard it a million and three times.

Tomorrow I’m going to buy the Chickenfoot album I have been so negligent in picking up.

  64. Karl says:

Sorry Big Al, but some of us expect more than just opportunity to crawl up Edward’s ass…

  65. ROB5150 says:

Last year Gene Simmons said that Kiss never made new music, because it is no longer a good business, then Paul Stanley said that touring for Alive 35 give him the desire of new music, he convinced Gene, and now we have a new Kiss album; I think this is an honest way to talk with the fan,but we have also to understand that Paul and Gene are really friends from 40 years…
The bad thing of Van Halen is that they do not talk clearly with us and use a million of excuses, maybe Dave is no more in the band and for sure there’s no friendship between Ed and Dave. Better that Ed say clear that he is no longer interested to make new music so we can just remember the good times gone!..Or enjoy Kiss!

  66. john says:

you can only rehearse or record for a few hours at a time while the hand is still healing….no rushing ….that hand has to heal properly

  67. Dave says:

Dave is flying under the radar for sure. He must be up to something, wouldn’t you all think? Finally got what he wanted then drops off the face of the earth. Odd, weird, confusing, whatever.

  68. bosox says:

    Oh waaaaa Al

  69. Simon says:

And hopefully “stuff” isn’t painting a guitar or putting up blinds.
    ———————————————————–
    Rich, that was inspired.

  70. lucky says:

I hope they put something new and relevant out. I’ll be the first in line to buy it, but I’m not holding my breath. Ya know we’ve been waiting since 1998 for a full length original CD, and that’s if you count VH3.

I seriously doubt Edward sits down at a computer…EVER…unless it has something to do with recording. His wife/publicist understands the need for the fan connection. In my day it was Circus and Hit Parader magazines, among others, those are pretty much gone.

  71. drummerboy319 says:

People would bitch if they was hung with a new rope Al!

  72. Diamond Doug says:

    Hey Big AL,
What do you mean: “Dave can’t sing”??? I guess you missed the ‘07/’08 tour?? You know, the one with the highest grossing sales in the bands history…
Maybe you should play your Bette Midler records more often and stay off this site?..Just a thought…

  73. ClubfootKolby says:

You mean highest grossing sales means realhigh ticket prices. Bring back Mike and Sammy, then we’ll get a steady dose of new great Van Halen music, with cheap ticket prices

  74. Big AL says:

    Diamond Doug,
Saw the 07-08 tour twice. Once in Cleveland the other in Cincy. Both show’s were Awesome! You miss read what i said. There’s a few on here who want a new album but then would find something to complain about the new album…learn to read…just a thought!!!!

    Karl,

You couldn’t crawl up Ed’s ASS until you crawled out of SAM’S!!!!!!

    Dan,

I’ll define whining by telling you to read your own post!!!!!

As for the rest of the WHINERS!! I LOVE The Mighty Van Halen (ALL INCARNATIONS of the band) and will defend my band till the end!! Old music, New music, No music! It’s still VAN HALEN!!!!!!!

  75. Rich says:

    Al,

Everyone here loves Van Halen, I’m pretty sure people don’t just join websites to slate the people, especially someone as inspiring and influencial as Edward and the rest of Van Halen, past or present.

Its just people, myself included, are getting fustrated with a lot of talk but no action. Appearences on comedy shows and a myspace page is all well and good if it leads to something. The 07/08 tour showed just how good VH were and that they certainly had committment and stamina for the latest incarnation of Van Halen. But theres not a peek of new music. No instrumentals, no songs, just a lot of “I’ve got 5 albums worth of material” or “we’re rehearsing and jamming in the studio” - get a video of an average day, do something!

People yap on about how Ed doesn’t owe us anything. But we’ll all buy the new VH record in as many formats as possible, tickets for the shows, merchandise…see what I’m getting at? People need to have something back. I’m sure Janie Van Halen will have a nice birthday but its really probably the thing I give the smallest crap about right now!

If Edward said he was never going to put out a new VH album, fair enough. But he hasn’t, he, Alex and Dave give the impression that there will be something new coming soon. We’re just waiting, not knowing whats coming or what to look for. You can understand after 2 reunions and 11 years people are getting a bit bored.

  76. Diamond Doug says:

    Big AL,
Sorry about the misread & burn.
I’ve been going to VH concerts for 25 years, countless shows. Have also seen atleast a dozen Roth solo shows. Some of the solo shows sucked, some Roth was untouchable on stage.
The ‘07/’08 tour I saw 3 times, Mohegan Sun Arena, Madison Square Garden & Providence Rhode Island. The Garden show was clearly the best concert I’ve ever been to in my life..”hands down”.
I do believe we will see a 2010 tour, and that the tour will be after they have a complete album “in the can”…It may not be released in 2010…but I do believe they are working on one..and it will be recorded.

  77. Skutch says:

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Dave isn’t “lying low”. He’s sitting home being super rich. He’s in a hot tub with girls with big boobies. Probably not too worried about the future of VH. He’s just rolling with the punches.

  78. ronald says:

dave did not even last 6 months on the radio
I actually really liked the show in the beginning at least

so do you really he is going to risk blowing this gig
    no way

he lets ed run the band.

    tongue is tied for sure…
expect the same dave to show up at the next live show!

  79. Mike says:

    I agree with Al.

Everyone needs to relax and just let it go. Enjoy the fact that Ed is getting himself together. Who cares if VH doesn’t do anything. Most people hate the fact that Wolfies in the lineup and Dave doesn’t have the vocals or worse, Ed is not Ed. Just be happy with the memories they gave us and take everything else with a grain of salt. Including the new album. I personally think Ed is making sure VH is relevant for his EVH merch line. Keep people interested until they make their next move.

I am just happy Ed isn’t wandering the streets of Hollywood begging for so called gas money. He can retire all I care.

  80. Mitch says:

hasn’t Ed been “working” on stuff for the last ten years? Where is it?

  81. Dawn says:

Before I even read any comments my first thought was that I love seeing Eddie but why haven’t we heard anything from Dave? Dave if you ever read these, we love you and miss you and want to see you “live” again soon!

  82. SirFrankenberry says:

I sincerely hope VH puts out a new record to satisfy all
the whiners on here who feel that Ed owes them one.
I will love to read all the comments/posts on here after
    it is finally released.
Apparently some of you forgot Ed has been on a creative downward spiral for the last 25 years. Every release been worse than the one before since 1984.
Hoping for another Fair Warning… but really..
Enjoy the reunion tour and hope they do another.
Do ya think all the ACDC fans are going to their sold-out shows because they want to hear something from BLACK ICE?
