WOO HOO! Something new!
September 30th, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Love when they break into ‘Sprit Of Radio’ during the soundcheck…
Sweet!!!
September 30th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I know the die heard VH circle jerkers will be going all pyro on Sammy’s interview, but I am sorry … he is just the coolest dude EVER. It is Sammy’s world and we are all just living in it. Deal with it!
September 30th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
What song is that they’re playing? It’s hard to hear and I’m at work so I can’t crank it.
September 30th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
BLUESBRO…well said. Whether you did his voice or not, Sammy is one cool dude. What does he do? He just keeps putting out great music and doing something NEW all the time.
Since VH:
7 Solo CD’s
1 Chickenfoot CD
2 DVDs
…and he TOURS almost every year. He just loves it…he’s not jaded…and he’s not contrived.
If you don’t like the man’s art, that’s cool. However, among those that don’t like him I think the fact he’s been SO productive, SO good, and SO successful, I think it just rubs them wrong because it makes “their guy” (whoever their guy may be) seem diminished by comparison.
I don’t see it that way at all. I just like the man’s attitude and his music is killer.
Peace!
September 30th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Well spoke Pete!
September 30th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
NO Pete he puts out filler! Not Great! Do you really think that someday there will be a Sammy Tribute Band? NOT going to happen, Great Bands have tributes………Well maybe Montrose!
September 30th, 2009 at 1:29 pm
Sammy has a great attitude and cool vibe. Sure great to see him out supporting the Grammy Foundation instead of 2 Burritos and a Root Beer Float.
There is a reason why Sammy and Mike are no longer doing the VH thing…they outgrew the gig; he’s absolutely right.
Nice to see the Foot isn’t covering VH or Chili’s.
Great band of brothers.
September 30th, 2009 at 2:18 pm
At first I was kinda disapointed when I found out they wouldn’t do any VH covers live - but they have such a great live show you just forget about that.
Some of Sammy’s stuff isn’t that great - Chickenfoot is excellent but “Cosmic Universal Fashion” was pretty terrible…
September 30th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Spirit of Radio FTW.
Chickenfoot guys - if you read these comments, add that one to the setlist pronto.
September 30th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
The Red Rocker Rules!!!! Love the foot!!!! Great tunes, awesome live shows!!!! I’ve been to two shows (can any one say PARTY) and I looking forward to having a copy of the Foot’s live DVD when it comes out!!! Of course Andrew wants to be a party pooper, nice going Andrew you stinking sappy putz!!!!!
September 30th, 2009 at 2:24 pm
I love Sammy too. I do agree…he does not put out GREAT music, but he does put out music consistently and tour almost every year. He puts on a GREAT show and he continues to put out just good solid Rock n Roll you can bob your head to. You may not want to rush out and buy the album or tell your friends you need to hear this song, but it is always been solid. Sammy has always gotten a load of shit from people even before Van Halen days. Reviewers, etc. He has always been the underdog. He just says, “fuck it” you like me or hate me. I will continue to support him in whatever he does, just as I will continue to support VH in whatever they do.
September 30th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
C’mon Andrew get with it, get your buzz on and enjoy the Foot!!!!
September 30th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
I enjoyed the Rush tribute at the six minute mark.
I like CF but still think that satch is bored out of his mind in this format. I hope it all lasts.
September 30th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
right on, Scar
September 30th, 2009 at 4:56 pm
RA812 - I don’t care for Sammy’s music but love his voice. His work on F.U.C.K. was brilliant. Your comment is right on the money.
September 30th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
It would be awesome to see the VH camp this productive. I’ve always been into Hagar, in VH, or solo because he makes good rock-and-roll music and doesn’t sit on his ass like VH and bitch about people leaving his band and wanting the whole world to kiss his ass(Eddie VH). There is enough room on the planet for CF and VH to rock, if VH ever makes a new album!!!!!!!!!!!
September 30th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
For all of you hard core Foot Fans that always dog out EVH for not putting out any new music…. YOU are all forgetting about the NEW song he released a few weeks ago called “2 Burritos and a Root Beer Float”. The video is cool as hell! Even Charlie Sheen comes out in it. Oh wait…..
September 30th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Vanicionado - I loved hearing “Spirit of Radio” too…who was that lucky kid jamming with them? I appreciated Chad’s drumming and his Geddy-like vocals…good fun.
Imagine that - a band having fun? I love it…
September 30th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Pete: I’m pretty sure that kid was Davy Knowles, who has been opening for Chickenfoot on this tour. He’s supposed to be great.
And one small correction on your earlier post. I think Sammy has put out 3 DVDs since Van Halen. He has a birthday bash DVD following the 10-13 tour. He then released “The Long Road to Cabo” which documents his tour with David Lee Roth and then most recently put out a DVD of a show in St. Louis. But you are absolutely correct. The man doesn’t sit around.
September 30th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
It is Davey Knowles…dudes got skills on the axe!! If U C the Foot show up for opener.
September 30th, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Ouch.
No love for Ed and Al…
That’s for sure.
What happened?
September 30th, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Bocephus,
Some of this comes with territory. What has Van Halen given fans in the past decade? Touring and covering themselves is hardly worth writing about. Eddie drunk at the shows, NAMM, and other places has been embarrassing. Overpriced remakes of Ernie Ball’s, Peavey’s, and a whole host of other gear that has settled into the EVH brand. EVH shoes that look like Nike shoes and porn music at his house? WTF…and then, 2 burritos and a root beer float. How about 2 shots of Cabo and a beer chaser at a foot concert!!!!
Ed and Al’s no show at the HOF was it for me. Velvet Revolver being put in a bad place because the entire show fell through was a bad place for them too! Van Halen has left a large wake of damage to people, gear, and fans over the past decade. Where is Roth? Has he finally had enough too? Maybe he should start Chickenfingers…
I can’t believe VH fans get excited about Wolfgang on YouTube! The entire ordeal is f^&ked up.
I am excited about Cantrell and Alice in Chains. Jerry had some nice things to say about Ed in the latest Guitar World issue; pretty good article for those that follow AIC.
September 30th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Pete… they didn’t come my way this year. Hoping they put out a DVD, cause from the live stuff I’ve seen, I know I will enjoy it!
Rickie… Satch being bored. I hope you ain’t right about that! This band needs to put out another album!
September 30th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
SCAR… peace bro?
September 30th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
WTF?!! The VH brothers didn’t want to show up at the RRHOF? So I guess Sammy is really saying that Eddie’s rehab was all bullshit? Has he seen how great and happy Eddie is now?!! Eddie has taken some heavy hits in the past 10 years but look at him now. I’m glad Eddie, Alex & Dave didn’t show up at the RRHOF. Sammy was hanging to get his picture taken with the real Van Halen!!!
I got to tell you all you Sammy lovers and anti EVH’s are all sucked into this fake corporate slut call Sammy Hagar!!! I can read right through that clown!! He thinks his shit doesn’t stink!! And now he has the balls to say “I’d rather be in Chickenfoot than Van Halen”. Well thank god the truth is finally out!! It’s all there in black & white. He never was in Van Halen, he was only using Van Halen’s legacy to build his profile.
I got news for that clown Sammy, if it wasn’t for Van Halen you would never be in the RRHOF or enjoyed the rich lifestyle you so cherish and gloat to everyone.
Van Halen made Sammy Hagar, not Sammy made Van Halen!!! And he has that cocky, wanker, cringe worth attitude to talk down Van Halen legacy & disrespect Eddie & Alex. But what’s sad in all this is whether Mike thinks/agrees with what Sam say’s. If that’s the case, BEWARE!!! Never doubt the mighty Van Halen, do it at your peril. As usual Chickentfoot has enjoyed their current success purely on Van Halen’s link. If all you chickenfoot stooges don’t know about that then you’re all fake!!
Let’s see how their next album goes, Oh I forgot!! Chad is still the drummer in the Chilli Peppers, or should we brush that bands history aside so Sammy can stay in the spotlight?!!
October 1st, 2009 at 2:46 am
Brown Chicken:
Check out their new album. Its as if it were 1995 again, its so good and reminiscient of their older stuff. Also, if I remember correctly, Jerry thanks Eddie Van Halen in the “Dirt” album sleeve. I thought that was cool as hell.
October 1st, 2009 at 5:14 am
Sammy just seems like a cool guy to hang out with! No matter how much you love the classics you still want to hang with Sammy! Admit it!
Haha
October 1st, 2009 at 5:28 am
KAYSER - thanks man, and you’re right…THREE DVDs are definitely better than two. I have them all and love them all.
VANICIONADO - I hope you do get to see the foot (they were awesome!), but if not, they’re definitely working on a DVD. It should be cool because the videos have been great, and so have all the video updates on their site.
HATERS - wow…these must be tough times for you. When there’s so much good news around the Foot it must be hard to be so negative, but kudos to you - I really see the effort. Hang in there!
Peace!
October 1st, 2009 at 5:39 am
Guys, I’m not a fan of Sammy’s music, it’s just not my thing. BUT I’m the first to admit he’s no phoney. I’m with Pete and the others that. He loves what he does and does it because he’s truly into it. Good for him and he seems like a cool guy. Hater this….hater that…. yeah yeah yeah.
October 1st, 2009 at 5:40 am
Didn’t Eddie give Jerry one of the Ernie Ball EVH gold tops? I know he has one and they are worth a ton.
October 1st, 2009 at 5:52 am
Shut up Scar!Nobody cares what you think.Your an idiot.bye homo.
October 1st, 2009 at 6:06 am
Ive not heard one chickenfoot song on the radio. how good can they really be? Take Joe out of the picture and they suck. Seen them on youtube but no radio time. Heard a bunch of VH though(the old VH with Dave)you know, the good stuff, the stuff that never gets old…………
October 1st, 2009 at 6:13 am
Here We Go!
October 1st, 2009 at 6:33 am
Oh SNAP. Blake hits SCAR with a left jab. Will Scar retaliate? Stay tuned to VHND for more adventures!!!
October 1st, 2009 at 7:51 am
Vanciconado, you got it, peace brother!!!!
October 1st, 2009 at 7:59 am
blake, thank you for your kind words. Have a wonderful day fruity pants!!!!!
October 1st, 2009 at 8:24 am
I posted this at the end of another thread, so I thought I would try a fresher posting.
Chickenfoot is playing their last live show on this tour tonight. It will be interesting to see where this project goes from here. If Chad is gone with the Peppers for for awhile they should just replace him with either Sammy’s Wabo drummer or with Satch’s drummer Jeff Campitelli. Campitelli is a hell of a drummer and would be an adequate substitute.
I had never even heard of Chad Smith before the CF project … just never a RHCP fan personally. All their stuff sounds the same to me. But he is one hell of a drummer, and would be missed. But I think he could be replaced for a year or two … until he comes to his senses and comes back to the Foot
What do you think? Is Chad the most easily replaceable of anyone in the band? I would love to get a follow up album sooner than a year or two from now.
October 1st, 2009 at 9:29 am
@Bluesbro
Without Chad, there is no Chickenfoot.
October 1st, 2009 at 10:12 am
Why not bring in jason bonham. Then they could do some zep cover songs!
October 1st, 2009 at 10:14 am
Hey Exodus– Take Satch out and they suck? Take Ed out of VH and they suck too! What’s your point? I will say this about Sammy– Doood needs a trainer to help him loose the manboobs.
October 1st, 2009 at 10:16 am
I have a feeling Chad will record drums for a new album as he gets free time. I can see him flying in for a day, laying tracks, and then flying out to rejoin the RHCP tour. I think we will have a second album sooner than expected. Conversly, I think we will have a VH record longer than expected… lol…but it will be worth it!
October 1st, 2009 at 10:18 am
Blusbro… they’ve stated that they won’t do anything without Chad.
Conversely, here’s something interesting posted on Wikipedi.ca under David Lee Roth:
When asked about the recent Rolling Stone blurb concerning Eddie Van Halen jamming again with Wolfgang and Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth mentioned “Oh, I’m just waiting for a call you know. We’ve got no new songs yet, no new lyrics but we’ve got forward momentum and that’s the key. (Alex Van Halen)’s got this idea to use the kid from the ‘84 album grown up for the cover art though. Who knows? I’m gonna have to start hittin’ the snooze button and not set an alarm, ’cause I’m expecting that call at any minute.”
October 1st, 2009 at 10:41 am
I gotta agree with DiamondDLR - Chad is essential to their sound. I had never really paid much attention to him before Chickenfoot either but he’s a madman on those things. Plus, I don’t think they would replace him. It seems this band is as much about the fellowship and fun as it about being prolific. They’ll wait for him to come back. Which sucks for the fans because it could be a while.
October 1st, 2009 at 10:58 am
Alex Van Halen)’s got this idea to use the kid from the ‘84 album grown up for the cover art though.
What an interesting idea - it connects the Roth era albums and creates continuity.
October 1st, 2009 at 11:12 am
(sorry… from Wikipedia.org)
October 1st, 2009 at 11:33 am
I don’t think the guys in CF are near as worried about its future as the fans are. The boys are just having fun and rolling with it. It think it is more successful than they anticipated and they are having fun with a side project for once.
October 1st, 2009 at 11:46 am
Yeah, I mean the fact is they want to pursue it as it is fun and successful. In that interview Sammy said that he’d rather be in Chickenfoot than Van Halen - but its not about the music (for that part), but about the people. He uses the term “dysfunctional” - nobody getting along with anyone else. He said that he jammed around a bit and got fired from VH, Mike jammed around a bit and got fired too. Its obvious that neither Sam nor Mike have talked to Eddie in years (and the other way around too). They were very courteous at the RRHOF induction, but its Ed’s band and he only wants what’s best. Now we’ve got two great bands who are both doing well, touring and creating new music.
Just shit that there can’t be a “yeah spoke to Ed a few days ago, thinking of inviting him down to Cabo” or anything. It has to be a chasm inbetween them, which is kinda sad.
October 1st, 2009 at 12:18 pm
“Now we’ve got two great bands who are both doing well, touring and creating new music.”
So who’s the other band that’s “doing well, touring and creating new music”?
October 1st, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Rich… I’m with you man. They should all be friends. They did some great stuff together.
Karl… ewww BURN!!
October 1st, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Rich,
Thx for the digs on the Dirt album. Saw AIC with Velvet Revolver (another dysFUNctional band) and they rocked. Jerry’s style is great and he was amazing to watch. I look forward to picking up the new album…thx for the tip.
People chatting about hearing Foot on the radio. VH3 didn’t even go gold! They didn’t spin any stuff off VH3 and the Best of stuff with Dave received very little airtime, if any.
Van Halen’s no show at the RRHOF was a diss on the legacy of the band and fans…as simple as that. Look at how much fun came from Metallica and Jeff Beck at recent inductions! What a shame…
October 1st, 2009 at 1:55 pm
I believe that Ed is jealous of Sammy and the Cabo Wabo. If you remember Ed and Al and probably Mike were all investors in the Cabo Wabo Cantina. Then when it started losing money they sold to Sam. Same eventually turned shit into gold when he did the tequilla thing. Sammy built a brand that exploded. On the 2004 reunion VH tour with Sam, Ed would not let Mike promote Hot Sauce and Sam could not promote Cabo Wabo. NOW, that Ed has cleaned up and see what he has missed over the last 10+ years, he is building his own brand. EVH. With not only guitars which he had before, but all kinds of shit. I thini in the end, Sammys brand will always be stronger. It was built into a lifestyle and not really around a “person.” Ed is marketing himself really.
October 1st, 2009 at 3:59 pm
Yeah, but what was the first song they played (before “Spirit of the Radio”)?
October 1st, 2009 at 4:03 pm
RA 8 1 2,
I have been a Halen fan for a couple decades. The problem with the EVH brand is that it’s a little diluted. As a player and owner of a Wolfgang, I happen to believe the best guitar EVH played was the Ernie Ball. Many of his guitars post Ernie Ball had the same style, look, and sound. I’ve played various versions of Eddie’s guitars and I’m most impressed with the Ernie Ball.
Now that Paul Reed Smith is making some killer rock/metal guitars, those sound just as good, if not better, than any EVH guitar…the tone knob on a PRS with maple tops gives such a wide range of tones…more than any I’ve ever heard in a guitar.
I don’t believe that Ed is jealous. I believe that Ed is an addict and he fights with demons daily. Even though life may be great with Ed financially, I believe that he probably struggles daily to understand his place in life. You can clean up the addict, but you can’t clean up the addiction. I just wish Eddie seemed to be more at peace in his life. When I saw him in Denver in ‘04, I was disappointed and quite saddened. Here was one of my heroes with some goofy lookin’ hair and drunk to beat the band. He rolled around on the floor for several minutes fucking with his guitar (which sounded like shit) and then Wolfgang came out to play 316. What an f’ing circus! Since then, I haven’t been impressed. I really enjoyed Van Halen for years, but as Harvey Dent said in The Dark Knight…
“You either die the hero or watch yourself become the villain”
October 1st, 2009 at 5:17 pm
Ludwig, I just read your post. Don’t be such a jealous hater … it is transparent and pathetic. VH doesn’t need you to defend them, they just need to actually do something productive so there can even BE comparisons of any sort.
And coming off like you have this ‘insider’ info and total understanding of everyones thoughts only makes you come off like a tool.
Stop hating Sammy because he actually works. Stop hating him because he’s actually found a guitarist that threatens your wet dream would be King Ed. Stop hating because he is actually having fun. That is what life is all about brother.
October 1st, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Ludwig- Shut up! Wow! what’s it like to be clarvoyant? Sammy is haveing fun, plain and simple. If i were in his shoes I would much rather be in CF than VH. What the hell is VH doing!??? As usual NOTHING. CF are musicians who want to play because thats what musicians do. I for one was a huhe VH fan, from the Roth day and thru the Sammy days- no bias- I just loved that band. Now I could care less there is much more in life to be concerned about than a spoiled brat rich rock star who doesn’t care about his fans. I cant wait until the day when Joe and Ed go head to head ( of course it well never happen) Joe would destroy Ed. Ed knows how to do the same stuff he’s been dong for the last 30 yrs, his solos are lame. Ed please go away, you day in the spotlight is done
October 1st, 2009 at 6:47 pm
Bluebro, you’re contradicting yourself. If like is all about having fun, then why are you bitching about Ed. He’s having fun. He just got married, he’s raising his kid and living life sober. YET, you say he’s not productive? Shame on you.
GOD FORBID that Ed takes time to clean up his life (from a broken marriage, a hip replacement, tongue cancer, years of alcoholism, bitter feuding with previous band members, and having “fans” rip on him at every chance they get) before recording something again. Geez, why don’t you pray for the guy instead of knocking him down.
October 1st, 2009 at 6:55 pm
You got me started now. Instead of people simply being happy for CF, for some reason people have to use this as a platform to rip on Ed. Has Ed made mistakes? YES. Have we made mistakes? YES. Have Sammy and Mike made mistakes? Believe it or not, YES. Get over it.
If Ed never records again, that’s HIS choice. Evidently, he isn’t allowed to lead a happy and sober life with his wife and kid, without always being criticized for not doing the same things that Sammy is doing? Whatever.
October 1st, 2009 at 7:26 pm
point is Joe is the only reason to go see this band.
and you would have to take the name Van Halen away from Ed in order for him not to be in Van Halen. That’s his name……
October 1st, 2009 at 8:41 pm
Skutch, I was responding to Lugwig’s flaming post. Hey, more power to Ed … I’m a 25 yr recovered alcoholic too. I know more than anyone what he’s gone through. But contemporary music wise Van Halen is a zero, that is all I was saying in response to Ludwig. I shouldn’t let an inane poster like him get under my skin, but his sanctimonous “Beware of the mighty Van Halen” BS is just lame. If you look at it purely from a fresh music standpoint, I know garage bands around my town that are producing more new stuff.
As far as people trashing this thread and not being happy for CF, talk to Mr. Beethoven. I’m as happy as I can be
October 2nd, 2009 at 6:26 am
Bluesbro, it’s all good. I agree that if VH wants to be back on the map, they’ll have to revive themselves with some kind of freshness that is relevant to music today. 1984 is one of my favorite albums ever, but it also sounds like music from that era…to an extent. Good to hear you are recovered. That’s awesome.
October 2nd, 2009 at 6:35 am
So lets say that VH does release a new album by the beginning of 2010. How many of you around here would really be that happy? Cause all I can see by reading many comments around here is that you’d probley rip it apart! 20 something years ago when many of you were much younger…and probley a lot better looking…you guys couldnt get enough of VH. Now all I read is constant negativity. It’s so sad. It really is. Eddie is not a 20 something years old anymore. If many of you on this site are young…..rejoice in your youth and rock and roll. Cause life gets tougher and tougher as you get older. Its about change….accepting change…dealing with the real world other than mommy and daddy’s house.
I’m telling you this now and you can quote me. No matter what eddie does many of you here will never be happy. I’ve seen may around here post the same thing. Be happy with what you have in life. Be it VH or the foot and take it as it is. Nothing is owed to any of us. A new album or not life does go on….
October 2nd, 2009 at 7:15 am
SKUTCH BABY…you “get it”. If you like Sammy or don’t like Sammy, he’s the real deal. Whether you like his deal or not is up to you. You get it - that’s cool.
Hey, I tried all the Wolfgang’s too, but I settled on a tobacco-burst Ernie Ball, and man do I love it. I love it so much that within two years I sold 3 guitars (Strat, Tele, and a Kramer) because whenever I went to play electric I wanted my EBMM and nothing else. (I use a Fender Heartfield too as a backup.)
Ernie Ball makes a small number of guitars, and they do it really well. That’s why Ed chose EBMM. However, Peavey drove a truckload of $$$ to Eddie’s door and promised him the same quality, but with a big payoff. Even though the wolf is designed around the EBMM, to me it just never felt nearly as good.
That’s my two cents…but who cares…IT’S FRIDAY!!!!!!!
Have fun everyone,
Pete
October 2nd, 2009 at 7:28 am
DaveV… Sounds so familiar… do you know??
October 2nd, 2009 at 8:58 am
Ludwig, Van Halen did not make Sammy famous, he did that long before he joined VH!!! Why bash Sammy???? He has, and still continues to provide Rock fans with good party music!!!! You know a lot of us fans love VH w/DLR, Sammy, VH w/Sammy, VH w/Gary and the Foot!!!!! Sammy probably likes being in Chickenfoot better than VH, because the Foot seems to be drama free to him!!! At 61 or 62 I think it’s awesome he’s out their having a blast with the band and the fans!!!!! This Chickenfoot stooge is grateful for the music!!!! So quit sounding all self righteous and get your buzz on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 2nd, 2009 at 9:24 am
Hear, hear SCAR!!
Hear, hear!
October 2nd, 2009 at 10:03 am
Pete,
Spot on…obviously you’ve played quite a few versions. I found that the pickup in the bridge position was made too hot and filled with treble compared to the EBMM (the feedback gets annoying gigging live and at high levels of gain).
I’m playing a Hwy 1 Tele as well and love the tone on the low strings for some tunes.
Keep rockin’ and TGIF!
I still play the Wolfie quite a bit, but enjoy the diversity of a good Mira X, Tele, and Jackson with Zakk GHS strings.
October 2nd, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Hi Duck…you pose the question
So lets say that VH does release a new album by the beginning of 2010. How many of you around here would really be that happy?
I would. If Ed, Alex, Dave & Wolf put a new album out in 2010, I’d be way up for it. And I sincerely mean that. Yeah, I’ve always appreciated Sammy, Mike, Satch, and the Chili’s, and I’m now a big CF fan. But I’ll never forget about or no longer be a Van Halen fan. I hope they jump back in next year. I’ll be there !! But, enough with the merchandise, Guitar Hero, nostalgia tours, etc. I’m sure others on this site feel the same way.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:37 pm
RA812..
You are correct about Ed and the hotsauce, cabo and EVH.
Although it runs deeper, a friendship has been lost between them, for now.
Hot sauce and Cabo are added stress and animosity to the mix.
Hopefully Ed’s new path may rekindle at least respect for those guys. odds are not good however, but maybe Ed is for real this time.
Side note: To Janie:
Get all four members to play at Cleveland. Unfinished business.
I will email her.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Duck - I have to agree with Dooley. I’ve been critical of Ed and his choices as much as anyone around here but I would be very happy to hear some new music from VH. The thing is, and someone alluded to it above, there just isn’t that much to choose from in the way of good music these days. My tastes run along the VH, CF, lines rather than the pop/hiphop/schlock we mostly hear about now. I will support any effort that keeps good rock and roll alive, be it Chickenfoot or VH.
October 2nd, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Hagar’s a shit talker Betty Crocker!
October 2nd, 2009 at 3:07 pm
Sammy must be doing something right…he just made me realize I have to start to playing music again and get my band back together. No matter what you think about his music, Sammy has the right outlook on life. And Chickenfoot’s album kicks ass…I don’t give a shit what anyone says.
October 2nd, 2009 at 7:26 pm
To Cmon
Eddie’s got nothing to prove, Eddie is more than Joe could ever aspire to be, for one Eddie is a proven great songwriter, but his songwriting was overshadowed by his revolutionary guitar work. People are still analysing or trying to figure out what he played 30+ years ago!! Joe is only starting to find out what it’s all about playing in a rock band. But he’s 30 or 40 years too late!!! There is nothing new or innovative he has ever done. He is just a good guitar player, but he won’t erupt the earth’s core like King Eddie, Hendrix and Page have!! I think Vai is more innovative than Joe could ever be and the funny thing is Vai got lessons of Joe, crazy world huh?!
I think people have got all jazzed up about Chickenfoot because there really isn’t anything else happening. People are kind of tired of the celebrity reality BS stars!! So Chickenfoot is really only a fill in or a fresh reminder of what it used to be. But listening carefully to their album, there is nothing there that is new or innovative that will worry Van Halen. In fact Van Halen will find it a compliment that their influence is noted in every review/opinion of Chichenfoot. It might piss of Sammy and co but it only proves how great Van Halen is!!!
Do yourself a favour, listen to the Chickenfoot album and then listen to Van Halen. As it’s traditional with Van Halen, I bet you’ll be reaching over to that volume nob and ever increasing the volume just before the speakers start to distort!!! Diamond Dave once said “Van Halen’s music is designed to melt and ruin all your other music collection when place among them”
VAN HALEN FOREVER!!!

You are correct on Sam.
A good spirit.
Let us not be fooled…he had his share in the breakup though.
A good man, but nobody bats 1000.
It wasn’t all the Brothers on this one.

Hey Sherman,
Yeah, man. I know. It’s true about the breakup. I think Eddie and Sam don’t click because they are just two totally different people. But I just really respect Sam for living each day to the fullest and doing his thing no matter what anybody thinks about him.

I’m going to take on a query here.
Y’know why everyone moans about EVH? Yeah, it is his personal choice to not put out an album.
But we’ve been promised one.
It didn’t stop him after Sammy left. VHIII was out 3 years after Balance.
Ed is always talking about how much music he has.
We’re told a new tour will come up next year.
Ed twitters about how he’s jamming with Wolf and Alex.
There are just a shitload of rumours about a new VH album. We’ve been anticipating it since Gary left. So I think we’ve waited long enough! Who wants this next album to be the next “Chinese Democracy” - a laughing stock with fans and the general media! Whatever qualms fans have with VH and their history, nobody wants them to be remembered as a band who talk large and don’t deliver.

BROWN CHICKEN…you’re playing some great axes brother, and I’m a firm believer that personal taste in guitars is just that, so despite my love for the EBMM, no disprespect to any of my guitar slinging brothers who rockin’ out on a wolf!
Incidentally, I don’t use the next position that much, but when I want to blow something cool, I’ve always liked what I’ve gotten from it. On my Fender Heartfield, incidentally, I actually removed the neck and middle pickups and filled in the gaps with plastic wood so that i had more room for a paint job. I’ve never missed them, and besides, my EBMM has a better neck pickup anyway.
Cool talkin’ shop with you man - peace!

Ryan:
You’re damn right! Sam is no angel. Dave is no angel.
At least as a fan of dave i’m the first one to admit he’s made some bad decisions in his career.
But a lot of the sam fans? Blind as the bats in their belfrey. It must be the tequila. If the hard stuff can make an ugly woman look good then I guess it’s the same with frontmen!
Thanks for not jumping on the bandwagon!
