Chickenfoot’s debut album certified Gold

chickenfoot_logo_smallChickenfoot’s debut album was certified GOLD by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) last Thursday, Sept. 10th.

Congrats to Chickenfoot for selling 500,000 albums! Pretty impressive for a hard rock band to do that in the year 2009!

  • kayser sozay

No surprise at all there. Congrats, CF.

  • Ray G

The album and band rocks. Well deserved & congrats!

  • Dooley

    Oh Yeah !!!

  • http://VHND David 5cents

    Well deserved. Thank you CF.

  • D.O.A. 5150

    Awesome, totally awesome.

  • lucky

That’s good news, they deserve it. It’s nice to see a rock band with top notch musicians getting the props. (there’s hope for aging rockers everywhere!)

  • Skutch

Good for them. That’s 200,000 more than VH3. LOL

  • Sherman T. Dog

    Thanks CFND!

  • ben

I guess that’s the production they made and was sold to Best Buy, I doubt 500,000 people bought the album considering just a couple of weeks ago they had only sold 350,000.

By the way VH 3 went Gold too.

  • Ger5150

Rock on dudes! Excellent job and cant wait for the next album

  • http://youtube.com/esalutti Erico Salutti

    No surprise at all!

  • garysamuelroth

    Skutch,

VH3 went gold and sold faster than the debut from Chickenfoot. Nothing against Chickenfoot, just keeping it accurate.

  • Mark

500K for a hard rock band with a member in his 60′s is quite an accomplishment.

    Congrats to the ‘Foot!

  • kayser sozay

Ben… don’t you have a surprise party you can go ruin somewhere?

There’s always gotta be a funhater.

  • bounce

“VH3 went gold and sold faster than the debut from Chickenfoot. Nothing against Chickenfoot, just keeping it accurate.”

Although this is true, Van Halen was not a “side project” to any of its members at the time. Also, you are comparing a third effort to a first effort here. Let’s compare apples to apples.. what side project of either of the Van Halen brothers went gold? Oh yeah, NONE!

  • phil

    very cool, congrats CF!

  • Skutch

My bad. I had my numbers wrong.

  • D.O.A. 5150

Who cares which album went gold first? It’s all good music people, why spoil the good news with a bunch of BS.

  • http://www.thejohngarrett.com john yuhas

thats good these days– plus they dont have a hit– just word of mouth– i have not listened to any of it yet– is it good..?

  • http://www.thejohngarrett.com john yuhas

by the way– vh3 was a good album–

  • Jor-L5150

the only ” side ” progect was eddie on michael jackson’s ” beat it “. it went to #1….

    just sayin…. LOL !!

    ——————————

seriously, going gold so soon, less than a year- thats impressive and i am very happy for them.
btw- the album is now available at stores besides best buy- saw it @ walmart last week.

it actually reflects well on the whole mothership- any VH-alumni doing well refelcts well on VH-proper – IMO.

  • ROB5150

Without controversy, I do not care, I do not understand these constant comparisons, honestly VH3 was a bad album, not the fault of Gary, CF gold? So, how much bad music sells millions of copies nowadays? Otherwise often good artists never reach the top of the charts. Once for all, Chickenfoot is Chickenfoot, Van Halen is van Halen. And I care only for Van Halen, even without Mike, Sammy or Dave.

  • mjc

great news for cf.on the subject of eddie’s side projects.he has also done the starfleet project and the wildlife soundtract.

  • Caboman

Awesome, can’t wait for the next one!

  • mkeruption

Right on CF! Anxious for a followup album. Tell me we won’t have to wait 10-15 years!

  • dlr

Hot sweet cherries from the vine……….

  • http://www.vhnd.com Pat G

Congratulations to the CF boys. Maybe this will light a fire under the VH boys to release a DVD/box set/new cd/ or any goddamn thing with new music on it.

  • john

    congrats!….now on towards 5 million

  • john

    go! satch!

  • john

    still surfin with the alien

  • VH Dude

Anyone who’s seen CF live understands. Congrats to CF!

  • Shawn

It is sad it isn’t more. This is a great album. I have been introducing everyone I can. No one I convinced to buy the album has been disappointed. As far as the Best Buy comment. In Everett Washington they kept having to order more as it was continually gone. Great work guys!

  • Rocko

    KICK ASS!!!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/ctabert Drummer Boy ’72

great job boys!! Saw u in Denver last Fri nite where the announcement was made. Way to go!!

  • Bluesbro

Their second album will be even more commercially successful, now that they won’t just be a supergroup curiosity.

  • Fair Warning

I just expected more from this album. It didn’t live up to the hype for me- hence, just now topping 500,000 shipped. The songs are the run of the mill hard rock formula- corny. And, with the exception of ‘ol Ferrel(sorry, not a fan of RHCP- even though he is quite the accomplished drummer) I love Sammy, Mike, and Satch. With that said, I do believe their live show does kick major butt, and I’d love to be there.

Yea these days anyone can download anything for free. That’s saying something. I actually bought this joint!!

  • stephan chartier

Thank’s Cf you rock and the shows were awsome best i have seen in many years i think VH should do small shows like Cf thanks Sammy for all the years of rocken keep it up

  • RA 8 1 2

The 500,000 sales for gold does not mean 500,000 shipped. This is actual sold copies from a store or online. They get this number from soundscan ratings which tracks sales via the barcode on the package. What is shipped can still be returned to the record label and does not count toward gold or platinum status.

  • Frank “The Tank”

Pre-Internet this album goes Platinum for sure. Congrats to the Foot! Now bring on some New VH Music a Tour and it ends this decade on a solid musical note.

  • Matt5150

The comparisons some people are making to Van Halen 3 are silly. Remember VH3 was released in 1998… The recording industry was much stronger at that point and time. Popular bands were going multi-platinum on a regular basis (that is why VH3 was viewed as a failure– compared to previous VH albums). The Chickenfoot album will likely outsell VH3 before it falls off the charts, and the Chickenfoot album was released in the 2009 recording industry. Taylor Swift and Micheal Jackson are competing for the highest sales of the year, which will be around 2.5 million units (for a single album in the U.S.) over a one year period. This is a mere fraction of the albums sold by popular bands in 1998. By today’s standards a gold album is great. :)

  • Pete

Very cool. Given the shift in the marketplace, you can’t really compare 1998′s VH3 with 2009′s CHICKENFOOT! Everything has changed in 11 years.

Good for CHICKENFOOT…real music prevails even in this age!

Incidentally, MARCHING TO MARS outsold VH3. Interesting…

  • Tommy

Was there really any doubt? Like some of the others have said,a gold record in this economic climate is awesome! Ed,Dave you’re next!

  • Fair Warning

Nickleback’s last album sold over 3 million- NICKLEBACK. We’re talking about rock legends in Sammy, Mike, Satch, and Chad- 500,000 isn’t that good. The songs are bland. I’m sure they rip live, and I hope they capture that magic on the next album.

  • http://none Ducky / Dirty Duck

Fair warning is right on point with that one man!

But still….500,000 sold for sammy hagar without VH backing him is pretty impressive.

    Jeez….did i just say that?

  • Pata Pollo /I\

Fair Warning is right about Nickelback selling over 3 million in album sales, however, don’t forget that Nickelback has a few albums under their belt while this is Chickenfoot’s 1st album. 500K in album sales in less than 6 months time for a first time effort is pretty impressive. Reminds me of Audioslave when they first came out. Same thing happened to them and very shortly thereafter they were a multi-platinum success.

  • phil

let’s see if nickelback will still be around in 20-30 years….

  • Vanicionado

    Well spoke phil!! Well spoke!!

You can’t keep cranking out the same song over and over and over again…

    They are SO boring!!!

  • Vanicionado

PS – Fellow countrymen ‘The Tragically Hip’ are one THOUSAND times as talented as Nickelback, but for some reason you dang Americans can’t get your head around them…. I just don’t understand.

  • C’mon

It is what it is. While you guys are aruing about sales #s Cf is sittin pretty. These guys never ever have to work menial jobs like most folk. They sold 500,000- good for them. Bottom line is that this is a solid freshman album from a band with 100 yrs combined experience. They all stand out. I love how satch is able to blend in and jam, mike shines on the bass ( dont believe me- listen to this album with head phones), Chad, is thunderous on the drums, and Sammy, Sammy is unreal. Remember people Sammy is going to be 63yo in a month. For you nay-sayers, there is NOBOBY out there singing rock songs like Sammy. His voice is awsome, he is in key, has range and tone. If you dont like them then dont listen to them. Keep sittin around waiting for vh to actually put out some music, by the time do dimond will be using a walker.
