Hey there,
This is my first foray on MySpace. Just wanted to say hi and let you know what has been going on in my life lately.
Janie and I had a very special and amazing wedding here at the house with our friends and family. Wolfgang was my best man and Alex married us. Janie’s Pomeranian walked her down the aisle. It was one of the biggest and best moments of our lives.
Our European honeymoon was just as wonderful, it was good to see Amsterdam again. I had hand surgery and arthritis treatment in Germany and recovery is going extremely well.
Alex, Wolfgang and I just started rehearsing up at the studio again. It feels great to play and my hand is getting better every day. I am not entirely up to speed yet, but I am getting there.
I was asked to do a cameo for Two and a Half Men. I typically shy away from these requests as I am not an actor, but Charlie and I are friends and since it was a scene with him, I agreed. Charlie and I had a great time, even though I was very nervous. The cast and crew were a pleasure to work with and helped me feel a little more at ease. I believe this episode airs September 21st.
I have been asked to do an interview and Guitar World cover shoot with Tony Iommi. He is such a great guy and good friend, of course I said YES! I just saw him in LA last week and discussed my medical treatments. He has similar problems with his hand and hopefully he will find the same relief I have found.
Loving life, my son, music and my new wife.

Wow. Never did I think Edward Van Halen would embrace technology. I have a feeling Janie is pushing this medium, but I like it nonetheless. Would have loved to hear more about the rehearsal and songwriting but I guess we’re left hanging a little bit longer…..

Van Halen have an official website & the only thing to change on that since the tour is new merchandise for sale. Do we really need another site to go see if they’re going to tell us anything new or share something personal? The News Desk has already informed us of just about every statement in Eddie’s 1st blog, as well as including photos. My guess is, if anything important pops up on the Myspace pages, the News Desk will relay it (like when Eddie adds Sammy & Michael as friends). I’m not a hater, I love those crazy Dutch boys, I’m just frustrated. New music, new music, new music!

Waiting for the FB as well. I closed my myspace a year ago. Anyway, I’m glad to see Ed addressing the fans through some sort of electronic medium. Clearly, Janie and Wolfie are great forces in his life. Stay tunes rockers!!!

Every album with Sammy hit number 1, how pathetic that they are left off the discography. In regards to Dave not being in the studio yet, he will not be there until they absolutley need him. He is just an employee.

The band always has rehearsed before bringing Dave , Sammy or whover in, they probably rehearsed for nearly a year before Dave joined them before last tour so don’t trip I have been a fan since the beggining and I always have a feeling about this band and I believe strongly Dave is the frontman . I just want to know if they are going to put out some new music or not before next tour. I have heard two different things. I will be totally bummed if they don’t. I think it’s great to hear from Eddie , who gives a fuck if it’s myspace , a billboard, a telegram! quite bitchin’ be happy that everyone is healthy.

Very Interesting!! I am sure his wife and son put him up to it. Its all sooo confusing to me. I am also puzzled by the fact that he mentions that he, wolf and Alex are in the studio. Shouldnt Dave be there to??? I mean, he has said over and over again that they are a band again. I know in the early days that all the writing was done with Ed, Dave and an acoustic guitar, which is why I think it was so magical. Who knows whats actually going on, but I would think if they are a real band they should all be there writing together???

OH YEAH!!!!!! THIS IS MUSIC TO MY EARS!!!! As for those typical naysayers and anti EVH’s out there moaning about Diamond Dave’s movements? You just don’t GET IT!!!! Dave always lays low and out of site after a tour and only springs to life when he’s ready with a new album. He was the same in his solo career too. Plus it’s no VH secret that Dave is absent from the early jamming sessions. It’s the same thing has when Mike was in the band. It’s always Guitar, Drums and Bass running through the new songs first before Dave cuts it like a Diamond!!! Eddie gets Alex and Wolfgang in to run through the new songs before Dave comes in and starts writing/putting his magic to the Van Halen sound. That’s how Van Halen works. It’s nothing new, that’s how Van Halen makes the best damn music!!
All you naysayers don’t understand how important Dave is to Eddie’s writing. In the Hagar years there was always something missing, something that wasn’t right, not that it sounded different, but it didn’t have that cutting edge, the unpredictability and the humour!!! It was the humour that what classic Van Halen is. It’s what the Beatles had too!! Dave needed Eddie and Eddie needed Dave. That’s what was what was missing most in Eddie’s writing in the Hagar years. Dave isn’t a YES MAN; he’ll say what songs he likes best and not. I think Eddie likes it that way; it keeps him fresh and on top of his game. Like it or not Dave brings the best out of Eddie!!! I’m so glad that Eddie & Dave have finally come to their senses that they need each other!!! Good times Van Halen people, Good times!!!

If they don’t put the Sammy records up and they put a picture of Roth on the site, Dave is clearly still in the band. Follow the logic, you guys.
Anyone who has ever heard Eddie talk knows his wife wrote this entry. He probably can’t write this clearly, and likely can’t be bothered even if he could.
I don’t think they should put the Sammy records up because they are part of a different band’s catalog. If Sammy was in the band, I would be okay with them just putting up the Van Hagar.
Not to mention the covers are so embarassing. 5150’s cover is gay, OU812 is a stupid name with a Meet the Beatles rip off, and the next album title is pure idiotic embarassment. And the Balance cover is almost as bad as Blind Faith.

To start off I’m happy to hear that ed is doing well.
I think a lot here will agree it’s also good to see him up on technology. Granted, we have no clue if he even sat in front of a computer and wrote it! LOL. But still, its good to have some more recent news comin from the man himself.
I’m usually very positive when it comes to things but this also left a bad taste in my mouth. Now im finally gonna ask the same question that many here have already:
“Where is dave?”
For awhile I just thought the cat was on an extended vacation, enjoying life, and the fact that he’s fronting one of the BEST rock and roll bands in the world…again.
But the more i think about it, it is very odd that there is never any mention of him form the VH camp. Nothing.
Now we finally get a message from eddie and not one mention of dave at all? It is weird and i think its been long enough that i myself ask the question too.
Hey, I want nothin’ but the best for this band. And whatever decisions are made is the way it’s gonna be. No matter how much we rant and rave around here. I just wish we could get a hello from dave now too. I know i’d feel a lot better….

I wonder if they can post the rest of the discography, without the other members consent?? Notice that if you click on one of the album covers, it immediately goes to i-tunes for downloading the album of choice. There has to be some legalities preventing them from doing it with the Sammy or Gary albums. Hell, with Mike, they made him sign away his rights, so the first six and greatest hits are fair game…….just a thought.

I think it is pretty common for most bands to have the musicians work up the music and then in the case of VH - send the tunes to the singer to work up lyrics when they feel they have something strong enough. Doesn’t mean it can’t change a bit later on maybe due to a singers input on something or another- but this is probably the reason Dave doesn’t need to be there right now. He doesn’t play an instrument - so what is the point? Good to hear they are rehearsing and working up tunes though - there is hope for a new VH album

Who care’s about some crap statement made on some crap webpage. Hey Ed, here’s a thought… how about you update your “Official” webpage? What a jerk - just trying to create any limelight that can be gotten. Does anyone here remember the days when Van Halen didn’t need to go to the media - when the media went to Van Halen?
Sam makes a new album, Ed needs to be on TV. Sam goes on tour, Ed needs to make Guitar Hero. Sam sells millions worth of his (awesome) tequila, Ed calls Dave and goes on a crap tour - WITHOUT THE ACTUAL BAND (RIP Mikey). At least one (or two depending on how you look at it) person from the VH Camp is doing something (Sam and Mike). While the Music isn’t “Van Halen”, it’s still something.
All Van Halen is nowadays is an overblown, supersized, lounge act, who has the popularity of a High School Rock Band (sorry Wolfie - I do think that you’re good, but you should make your own path) and it’s too bad because they used to friggin’ rock (with both Sam and with Dave).
Nonetheless, thank god for the VHND. Without them, we’d never hear news about Van Halen because no one else cares - not even TMZ, who is the trash of all media coverage.
Curious note, however… I wonder how many different (not repeat) visitors VHND gets on a daily basis. Anyone have some good numbers?

Good points made,I think Ed’s wife is behind this burst of news and TV spot.If they indeed are going to come back and do something they need to get back into the news.People that are not die hard fans have lost all interest in VH.The VH camp should address Dave and not play the silence game.Tell us if Dave is in or out.Why play head games with the fans that made you rich.After all if we the fans didn’t buy the cd,tapes,records,posters,shirts,etc I don’t think they would be where they are today.

DAVE: I love the post. I agree with you. As much as I love this band, it is a joke what they do now. They are like children getting back at one another. But we all love to hear the gossip.
Europe: I totally agree, would love to hear Dave sing some Hagar and Gary era, however this will NEVER happen as Dave cannot sing them. He does not have the range. If you look at most of the Hagar Catalog Sammy sings to f ing high. 2 songs off the top of my hear which Dave might be able to sing would be Why Cant This Be Love and maybe Finish What you Started. Can anybody name some others?
As for the posts about the Album covers from Hagar not being on the site and being OK with it if Sammy was in the band and they did not post the Dave covers. This would NEVER happen. If Sammy was in the band they woulod show all album covers. Maybe not Gary. Because Sammy is the second singer, they cannot dismiss the first. With Dave there, he is the original, they can try to dismiss what came after him. However it is all fuckin stupid to me. Like I said, they are like children not posting the Sammy albums and going so far as to remove Mike from the pictures? Give me a break. And im pretty sure that if Sammy was in the band, he would insist if possible to have Dave albums on the site because he respects the bands history now. It may have been different in 1985 when he joined and didnt wantnto sing Dave songs, but I think he views it differently now.
As for some postings about Jamming in the Studio, Im sure Ed and Al have worked out a shit load of songs to record. Im also pretty sure WOLF joins when he can or wants to. Hes busy out hanging with his friends and fuckin his girlfriend. Ed will probably play most of the Bass on the new album but give Wolf credit just as they did for VH III with Mike. Going back to the previous posting on VHND about wolf playing at the school, I agree that many people were harsh on Wolf. There is no need to call him names like fat kid, etc. This is just bitterness toward him because he is in VH or people think he does not deserve to be in VH or whatever. However many people say, leave him alone, he is just a kid. This is where I differ. If he is a kid, he does not belong in VH. If he is able to be in VH, then he is big and old enough to take all the comments and bashing, etc that fans throw his way. If he wants to play with the big boys then he can be a big boy. If people are gonna defent him as being just a kid, then he has no place in VH. Personally, I feel that Mike should ahve done the last tour then if they wanted Wolf for future projects thats fine, but to cut him slack, NO WAY. Like I said, if he is able to play with the Big Boys, he should take all that comes with playing with the big boys and being in the public eye, etc.

So great to hear from “The King” again! I know there are great things in store for Van Halen fans, such as a new record and tour. I get a little pissed of with some people sometimes though for slammin’ Ed, the guy can’t win for tryin’. If he doesn’t communicate he gets roasted, if he does he gets roasted, someone always seems to have a bug up their ass about something he does or doesn’t do or say. Van Halen once where, notice I say once where the kings, no doubt about that “THEY ROCKED” be it with Sam or Dave or Gary for that matter. Now they are just a joke where the die hard fans are being tortured by the puppet master EVH, hoping that someday he and Van Halen will actually release some new music. Personally I have gone past bothering now. I watched flight 666 about the Iron Maiden tour and while I can take or leave their music it shows a group of 50 year olds enjoying playing to the fans. There are no petty, stupid childish acts, which is why Van Halen have become just a pathetic joke. If EVH does want to hear from people and values what they say then either release a new album in the next 12 months or retire.

Edward, please come to your senses and do a Van Halen tour and an album where David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar alternate as lead singers. Sam could do the first part of the album and Dave could do the last part of the album or vice versa and Sam could open the show and Dave could close the show or vice versa. Please also bring Michael Anthony back into Van Halen. Can Wolfgang play any other instruments? As a very interested Van Halen fan for many years please note that you really let most of your fans down in 1996 when fans thought Dave was back in the band and a reunion tour would follow and then Gary Cherone became you new lead singer. The way to win back as many fans as possible is to do what I mentioned above.

Great news and I don’t care who sings. The screaming guitar is Van Halen and the humor of roth I prefer, but that awesome guitar deserves some great vocals. Be professionals, put differences aside and make a kick ass cd.

Hey, no matter who typed it, it means there is “some” movement going on in the VH camp. That is a helluva lot more positive to me than what’s been going on over the last 5 years or so.
I know Eddie has done interviews before, but only when they are about to do something big does he step out and make himself visible this way to this magnatude. I am starting to lose my pesimistic attitude and starting to fell like this new album might actually happen…….and that my friends gets me AFU,and On Fire!!

Who are you matt? Are you spokesperson for Pearl Jam? You’re gomnna start some shit with me over fuckin’ Pearl jam? I hate to break it to you pal but here in the u.s. not many ROCKERS give a shit about eddie vedder or pearl jam. Not that I need to explain myself but there was a time when hacks like vedder put down all my favorite rock bands. Wouldnt admit that KISS or SABBATH was an influence. Tried to save the world but forgot the fact that rock and roll aint politics. Yes…I hate pearl jam and the rest of those flannel wearing fruits. Im done coversing with someone who thinks these guys make a difference. Go play “10″ and while you’re doing that, keep in mind that someone who doesnt agree with your taste in music doesnt make their views on music irrellevant.

The guy is recovering from a hand operation PLUS athristis treatment. WTF do you want him to do? Record an album with a f**ked up hand? Call Dave and say “hey, come here listen to my sloppy riffs, my hand is still slow, but we can begin to write lyrics together on a messed up song”.
The guy has managed to treat his illness called alcoholism and had to work on his emotions to get there. Try to do this at his age. We’ll see if you’ll record an album at the same time.
I can totally understand why Ed doesn’t give a sh*t about dumbass fans like you whiners.
I’ll buy their CD, I’ll go see them again, and I won’t miss one second any Van Haggard song! Not a split second! And while Michael Anthony would be the best person on bass and backing vocals, HE IS NOT THERE ANYMORE, and any mature person could easily admit that Van Halen is not about bass lines. Is not Rush or Yes.

Good news, but discography shows only 8 albums, the same bad behaviour, I can’t understand why erase an entire decade of music. In this way Eddie denies himself and his music, perhaps great music.
Seems childish behavior, how many bands change elements but the songs remain. They did the same thing at Best of both worlds, completely ignoring VH3 and Gary.
It’s lack of respect towards our fans, I like a lot the albums with Sammy and certainly not change my idea now why Dave is back, if he is still in the band.
I think it’s time to stop joking and get serious about work, or formally declare the end (it will be better than go on in this way).
This has nothing to do with health issues or something else, I mean if Eddie feels bad I’m sorry, but better be honest and say ’stop’ instead keep telling to have tons of music ready…

The problem with this world today is technology. Plain and simple. Since the invention of the internet many have become so attached to their computers they need to know everything RIGHT NOW….IMMEDIATELY!

When you didnt have to know every fucking little detail of your favourite rock star’s life?
To a point, computers and the internet can be rewarding and fun. But for some people it’s become an obsession and it reflects in their personality. Especially here.
For all of you under the age of 25 deal with the fact that life isnt about everything you want when YOU want it.
The best things in life take time. VH gave us more than enough music to last the rest of our lives. There was a time when computers were for big buisness’ and the well to do.
We lived life day by day. Not second by second.
Just live your lives…be happy for your health…and for all VH HAS givin us. Dave era fans….vanhagar era fans…or both!

Waldo! What kind of dedicated old school van Halen fan would want to go to a concert to see Sammy Hagar play a set before David lee Roth.Alternating singers, when you could have Dave the whole show. Here’s the deal. People need to separate the 2.Van Halen with Roth is the the true van Halen.It would be a Sammy vs Dave show. Well obviously Eddie didn’t write this…give me a break. These rockstars have PR’s to do this shit for them. But at least there’s an update nonetheless no matter who wrote it. I’d just rather hear some new music–that’ll make it valid proof that something is going on, rather than making some myspace page. Why do you need a myspace page to hear new music…that’s for starving artists or high school kids trying to make a name for themselves, this is Van Halen! Just make a freakin’ CD already.
