VAN, RICK, SCAR, SKUTCH, PHIL…and a few others…I don’t always agree (or disagree) with you cats, but it would be very interesting to knock back a few cold ones with you guys and talk music in person…

  • 50yr old fan

D.O.A – Y are right on if you want to hear about the latest NON happenings of VH go to van-halen.com…which hasn’t had a shred of news or changed for 2 years! If you don’t like a story covered here don’t read it…is it that inconvient for some of you clowns? Let’s have a tab for VH, let’s have a tab for CF, let’s have a tab for Nooooowaaayyy. If you can’t pick through the one or so stories a day…go grab a blankie. This site has been regurgitating VH happening from the past 25 or 30 years..which I dig…but folks come if this was a PURE VH site it would be friggin story less hence no reason to come to VHND.

To the guys that make the desk run THANKS I think u do an incredible job… keep bringing ANY thing VH tinged past or present to our attention!!!

Oh and that ride out from SOAP…makes you want to grab an axe and rock!

    50yearoldfan:

The only two VHagar albums I STILL own are:

    5150 and F.U.C.K

I think OU812 is way too polished and dont even get me started on BALANCE.

I always thought that sammy did a good job on 5150. Due to the fact that dave and the boys had many of the songs written when he came on board. I mean “Get up” and “Summer Nights” has the CLASSIC VH stamp all over em’
That album also reminds me of summer. It truly is a great summer album.

F.U.C.K I enjoyed because I felt it was the HARDEST sammy ever rocked with VH. Poundcake…spanked….in and out. Good stuff. I can do without the annoying sammy wail and screech but a good album it is.

    PUSH and SCAR,

Man, you guys always make me crack up…always writing what I’m thinking, maybe you guys have that ESPN thing?

Keep fighting for GOOD rock n’ roll!!

  • Vanicionado

50 year old fan… Mean Streets DOES kick ass with other lyrics… See Voodoo Queen!!

And good point about covers. I know they were never Ed’s idea, but yeah, there’s a lot there on the first five albums.

I know Ed loathed Diver Down, but every cover on that album is ‘Van Halened.’ I LOVE it… specially when Dave breaks out the acoustic and harmonica for ‘The Full Bug.’ Super Sweet!!

Ducky… have to agree with you. Balance is pretty low on the totem pole for me as well. But I got to say, ‘Don’t Tell Me’ kicks ass. And Amsterdam is very good. And yes, I do enjoy the fluffy feel good Sammy songs that probably make your stomach turn. For me… ‘Strung Out’ was filler nonsense, as well as ‘Doin’ Time’ CRAP CRAP CRAP!!

I figure it’s the feel-good lovey tunes that turn most Sammy-Haters off. But what about ‘Secrets’ and ‘In A Simple Rhyme?’

  • C’mon

Stew- you’re a tool. Yeah Hagar got lucky. Oh thats, right it was Hagar who asked the VH bros to be in Vh back in 1985. Face it Hagar took them to a new level plain and simple. At least he’s still playing. Whats Eddie Van Hack doing?- Oh, thats right- NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 50yr old fan

ducky, am i correct in assuming you have owned the other cd’s at one time or another? “in a simple rhyme” is a great tune (love the solo).

  • SCAR

Vanicionado, you are right on the money about “The Full Bug” and “Secrets” from Diver Down and “In A Simple Rhyme” from Women and Children First but “Fools” is also another underrated song as well. “And when I need something to sooth my soul I listen to too much Rock N Roll”…………

  • BTD

    SWADE….ROCKS…AMEN BROTHER!

  • SCAR

swade, don’t let that get to your ego!!! Crack is wack and now smash that damn pipe!!!!!!

  • Rod

I dig the music and sammy is a great singer…….But damn he needs to get someone to write lyrics!

Maybe Dave can help him out?

    50yearoldfan:

Yes, at one time I owned ALL the van hagar albums. As i got older I went through that “Time to clean the dead wood out of my cd collection” phase. “OU812″ “Balance” and “Live! Right here right now” were three of the first to go. Those albums just did NOTHING for me. The only reason I even picked up balance was because my girlfriend at the time liked a few songs. Hey…I was 20 and horny. LOL.
I will always say that 5150 and F.U.C.K were and still are good albums. Do they give me goosebumps like the first 6 classic albums? Eh. When i first heard “poundcake” I was pretty floored. From the opening with the drill and al’s pounding drums, i was like FINALLY! A record with sammy that does some justice. I was also happy to see that ted templeman was on board again too. Not a fan of sammy….but i have to give credit where credit is do.
Ever catch any of the old shows 50yearold?

PS)”In a simple rhyme” is one of my personal faves.
    Love the solo too.

That song is somethin’ special man. Sure we all know it’s VH, but…ah fuck it! Cant put my finger on it.

Here we go again with the debate of Sammy’s lyrics! Can someone explain to me what a Panama is? Last I checked it was a country in Central America!

This video is funny in a good way. Isn’t that what it’s supposed to be about?

I’m tired of reading dribble about Sammy this and Sammy that. He’s making music, Eddie is making shoes and doing T.V. shows. So what folks!

Both versions of Van Halen were great, Eddie wanted both and when “fans” say Sammy’s time sucked, um last I checked, Sammy had 4 #1 albums guys! Was in Van Halen longer than Roth and had a better solo career.

I wish the “fans” who come on here would read what they write and understand that this site is just a way to stir up drama. When Van Halen does something, we hear about it. When Sammy or Mike does something, we hear about it. Sammy and Mike are in the RRHOF because of Van Halen, so they deserve to be on here. Do we exclude past presidents from the archives because they are dead or no longer the president?

  • http://none Ducky / Dirty Duck

Jeremy, you have every right to voice your opinion but the truth is in the pudding. Sammy may have had 4 #1 records but Dave’s albums (till this day have sold more….period.
I’m not startin drama…i’m just about the facts brother.
Since when does a #1 record in rock and roll mean….better?
C’mon silly rabbit! I mean even lars from metallica said that when BLACK went #1 they were embarrased. All i’m saying man is #1′s and great vocals doesnt always mean that’s the whole package. Back in the day rockers went for raw sounds and attitude. Not: “how can we make a #1 record”. Nobody gave a shit about stuff like that! It was about live shows and musicianship. Sammy may have made an impact with his ballads, but I will bet my life on it when i say this. When VH is mentioned people think David Lee roth.
