Why is Weezer in ‘Guitar Hero: Van Halen’?
From IGN.com:
Why is Weezer in Guitar Hero Van Halen?
Blame Wolfgang.
August 10, 2009 - Last week, Activision announced the track list for ‘Guitar Hero Van Halen‘, due out this December. Along with more than two dozen Van Halen songs, the likes of Weezer, blink-182, and Tenacious D are also included. Wait, what?
IGN caught up with the head of music licensing at Activision, Tim Riley, to find out how those bands came to be a part of Guitar Hero Van Halen. Turns out it was all Wolfgang’s doing.
“At the end of the day, it became Wolfgang Van Halen, who is a serious Guitar Hero player — probably the best Guitar Hero player that I’ve ever seen including people at Activision…They knew that, (the Van Halen brothers and David Lee Roth), so they were like, ‘Ask Wolfgang what bands he wants in.’”
And did David Lee Roth’s massive ego have anything to do with the lack of Sammy Hagar songs on the disc? “David Lee Roth - I don’t know that he demanded anything,” said Riley. “That guy was so cool and so pleasant to work with.”
He continued, “In my mind we never even talked about it…I don’t think the band ever said ‘no’. I don’t think we ever requested a single song or ever talked about it. It certainly wasn’t David Lee Roth saying there was no way or this is a mandate.”

Way to keep the band alive and in touch Wolf!! Now let’s get some new tunes and a tour going!
August 11th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Sammy and Mike are not under contract with Van Halen at all right now. They’d have to bring more lawyers in probably to do that.
I say it’s smart. Do a Van Hagar edition of Guitar Hero down the road and make more money!
August 11th, 2009 at 10:54 am
Of course it wasn’t Diamond Dave who didn’t want Sammy in, it was Ed! I just still don’t get, why if he “didn’t throw Michal Anthony out of the band”, why he isn’t in the game?
August 11th, 2009 at 10:58 am
Cause mike left the band!!!!!
Jeez…why is this so hard for people to get!!?
Some of you fans need to get out more…
or at least get laid.
August 11th, 2009 at 11:09 am
i’m just hoping for some additional downloadable VH songs (drop dead legs, girl gone bad, etc)
also, i would love to see a US festival venue in the game along with Whiskey a gogo or a backyard party.
August 11th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Yeah, he left the band after he had to sign all his right to it away before he could tour with them 2004. So really he was out of before the tour even happened. I wonder what Wolfie had to sign away.
August 11th, 2009 at 11:23 am
i remember seeing weezer at coachella and they had the VH “tribute” weezer logo in the same style as the VH logo used during the fair warning tour.
here’s a pic of a portion of it:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/.a/6a00d8341c630a53ef01156f734285970c-500wi
here’s the actual logo:
http://productshopnyc.com/htdocs/weezer_red-thumb.JPG
i also seem to remember a lot of extra shredder guitar solos during that set.
August 11th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Shawn:
I actually caught “weezer” twice in concert and both shows were stellar. Those guys can play and river’s vocals were perfecto. I got into them back in 1992 with the release of the BLUE album. Loved it. Now? Not really as into them as i used to be (as far as buying their new albums I stopped after the GREEN album)but they def put on a great show!
Love the logo…only weezer could get away with that.
August 11th, 2009 at 11:51 am
And, in related news, Edward Van Halen is letting his son Wolfgang write all the songs for the hotly anticipated new album in the style of The Beastie Boys…
August 11th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Here’s a little clarification on the Michael Anthony thing. Everyboby sems to think he left/was kicked out after the 2004 tour. But as early as 2000 or 2001 he and Sammy were trying to form a “supergroup” called Planet Us. I beleive the lineup was supposed to be Sammy, Mike, 2 former Journey members and Slash. Slash went on to do the Velvet Revolver thing and Planet Us went nowhere. Anyway, it’s this point in time that Eddie refers to when he says Mike left. Yeah, I’m sure Mike is as cool a guy as everybody says, and who can blame him for wanting to play and get out on tour, but the bottom line is when he chose to go do his thing with Sammy, he left Van Halen. And thank god for that! No knock on Mike, he’s as underated a player as there’s ever been (don’t belive me? Throw on “Pleasuredome and see if you can keep up with the Van Halens) and his harmonies are hard-rock’s best. But…if it wasn’t for Wolfgang being in Van Halen, there would be no Van Halen right now. That’s just the way it is. Sometimes you have to leave a little of your past behind so you can embrace the future.
August 11th, 2009 at 12:39 pm
It’s cool that Wolfie is bring back VH to the massess
August 11th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
David really don´t give a f*&%$ for this crap or Van Hagar era songs. He don´t need this “competition”.
David Lee Roth is Bigger and Better. And he knows that. That´s why he is so cool…
It certainly wasn’t David Lee Roth saying there was no way or this is a mandate.””
Because the Van Halen with DLR is the Real, Migthy and Pure Van Halen. All the songs are Classics!!
The game calls “Van Halen Guitar Hero”. No “Van Hagar” Guitar Hero!!!
If you want to hear van hagar tunes, go and buy tickets for Chickenfoot or Sammy Hagar´s Waboritas.
August 11th, 2009 at 1:00 pm
it wud be funny if wolfie chose sammy songs to be put into the game lol
August 11th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
3 parts original + 1 part INEVITABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wolfgang the Van Halen FANS can’t THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!!!
August 11th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
Fernando said, “if it wasn’t for Wolfgang being in Van Halen, there would be no Van Halen right now.”
I hadn’t thought of that until now. Great observation.
August 11th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Stellar post fernando! Rock on brother…
August 11th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
I know some fans are really mad about the whole Sammy and Mike thing, but if you stop and look at the big pic here you will see since Wolfgang has been in the mix- 1) we got a world tour 2)eddie is happy = new album 3)guitar hero 4)at least once a week some type of Van Halen news on here. At the least Wolfgang has done nothing but good since he has been in the band. Finally I must say as a fan of VH,van hagar,vh3 or any combo just rock on and enjoy the music.
August 11th, 2009 at 2:33 pm
one thing ive not heard mention is how wolfgang may inspire the writing on the new album to come, As it seems he is having alot of input in the band thus far, i would think he will greatly impact the new music Edward is writing.. maybe that will be a good change..fresh inspiration.. just a thought
August 11th, 2009 at 2:39 pm
One other thing I forgot that was the most important,Wolfgang = David Lee Roth. The next album will be like the first album Van Halen ever made, you know why Wolfgang will push the bar to get Ed,Al and Dave to put a fire in the sky!!!!
August 11th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
I agree with Fernando, and it wasn’t Slash it was Satriani also, don’t remember why it didn’t happen but after that, Sam did the tour with Dave (and Mike came along), then Sam called Al, and they reunited for the 2004 tour in which Ed didn’t want Mike back.
Anyways thankfully VH is back to kick Ass
August 11th, 2009 at 2:51 pm
Fernando — Planet Us actually went nowhere because Eddie and Alex shut it down. Or better said, Eddie and Alex voiced displeasure with the project and Sammy and Mike bowed out. Sammy, obviously, was not in Van Halen at the time, but probably did not want to burn the potential reunion bridge (which did happen in 2004) at that point in time. Same for Mike — regardless of what his status was in the band or his relationship with Eddie and Alex at that point.
That’s not to say that Eddie and Alex didn’t view this as Mike trying to join another group or whatever. The point is, Mike and Sammy still were enough worried about losing out on a Van Halen reunion that they backed out of Planet Us.
I do agree that without Wolfgang, there likely would not be an active Van Halen unit right now.
August 11th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
Fernando - I think you are correct that Ed refers to the Planet Us period as the time Mike “left the band.” What I don’t get is why everyone thinks that by playing with Sam, Mike chose to leave the band. That’s a crock of shit and you all know it. (Dirty Duck, etc.) By your rationale, anytime a member of a band endeavors to do a side project, they are no longer members of their band. We could all fill this thread with pages of examples of side projects that didn’t result in musicians being out of their original band.
If Mike “left the band” during Planet US, why was he back in the band in 2004? Because Ed tried to kick him out then but Sammy gave him the ultimatum “if Mike goes, I go.” Why would Ed have to kick Mike out if he’s already left? Ed relented to Sam’s demands but insisted on Mike signing away his interests. Regardless, Mike was in the band in 2004.
Under no rational interpretation of the facts can anyone say Mike voluntarily left VH. He was ousted in favor of Wolfgang. Period. That’s Ed’s right if he wants to. Who can blame him for wanting to play with his son if that’s what he wants to do. He’s the head honcho in the band so he can do what he wants. However, it was entirely sackless to replace Mike without even telling him and then trying to claim Mike quit VH. Be a man about it, Ed.
The good news is Mike seems to be a much happier man now with Chickenfoot. Ed’s probably happier too that he gets to play with Wolfgang. It’s all good. Plus, Mike can take satisfaction in knowing most of the VH fans sorely missed him on the reunion tour with Roth. He knows we’re all behind him.
August 11th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
Props to Wolfie for mixing it up…Weezer is a legit band…they are very talented. Seems pretty cool to me, it looks like a fun line up!
And I think Dave is amazing and wonderful and of course he wasn’t being a jerk through this whole process…honestly I think he goes with the flow more than people think. DLR<3
August 11th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
Fernando&Gee Lopz said it all.Personally, when i 1st heard F.U.C.K. i thought it was amazing-the only thing that was missing was DAVE`S “vocal interpretation”.”PLEASUREDOME”
smacks of”ROTH” attitude.I was a “converted”VHGR” fan when DLR left, but Unfortunetly he(DAVE) took all the balls&sarcasm with him.VH went from “music to piss your parents off”to “wedding songs”
BUT THAT`S ALL ABOUT TO CHANGE!!!
THANX WOLFIE!!!
August 11th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Darn, and I went and bought RockBand II for the kids last Christmas
August 11th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
I think all of you have vaild points.Sammy and mike are better off doing it with chickenfoot as Ed and Al are better off with Wolf and Dave.Van halen was missing something during the hagar time and it’s not Hagars fault. It in my opinion was that spark that Dave brought to the table.Sammy has a different take on things as Dave is just in your face hard rock.
August 11th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
As Dave says: “Sam throws a party; I am THE party.” Any true VH fan wants to see all 4 members making music and rocking us in concert. Heck, we all wish they never broke up. Imagine the music they could have made from 1986 to now????? Yet, this is not the reality. I had goosebumps when I saw Dave and Eddie on the same stage again…..just brought me back to their heyday!!! It had been waaaaay to looooong since I rocked that hard at a concert…think 1984……Thanks Wolfgang for getting your dad and uncle back together with Dave!!!!! Now let’s get ready to party!!!!!
August 11th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Aftershock,
You’re wrong. Planet Us recorded an album together and were going to tour, but Schon and Satriani said they didn’t want to be a tribute band. That’s why Chickenfoot with Satriani absoulutly plays NO Van Halen tunes. RESPECT
Kayser,
It’s called LOYALTY!!!
Name another NEW band or any band that Eddie started?
Name another band Alex started or even jammed with?
When Van Halen were signed, the label didn’t want Dave. But Van Halen stuck with Dave.
Ed expressed displeasure for Mike’s lack of input and ideas in the 80’s. Mike was in the band until 2000.
Bottom line: VH3 didn’t do well album and tour (which was ashame). Ed was going through tough times (cancer, hip replacement, drugs, divorce ect.) Maybe, Mike thought he saw the writing on the wall. He started a hot sauce business, got with an old singer and started a new band.
Hell like Ed said you can’t be in 2 bands! Look at what Chickenfoot is going through with Chad. Limited tour and uncertain when thy’ll be able to record new music!
August 11th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Mike and Sam did a tour called the SANS HALEN tour. How is that NOT a diss to Ed? Of course Ed doesn’t want those guys in the band. Why would he? So Mike was ousted. Who cares? Besides, do you really want Mike in the band? Really? Nick is right. There would be no CF, the boys would be incredibly unhappy and Mike too. With Mike out of the band, everyone’s happier. Everybody’s touring and music is being made. Quit whining.
Good for Wolfie. Tenacious D rules! Jack Black can sing circles around Sammy any day of the week. You guys blasting the D are clueless.
August 11th, 2009 at 5:30 pm
I think this photo will end the “Why is Weezer in Guitar Hero Van Halen?” question.

August 11th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
Michael– Cool post!! That does indeed give some insight! Lol
August 11th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Im glad Wolfgang has a part of the Van Halen band. Maybe he can get the band to release some cool DVD that was recorded on the last tour. And maybe after Ed passes away someday (hopefully never!!!!) Wolfgang will have inherited all of Eds music in the vaults and release some of it to Van Halen fans. There hasnt been any new music from Van Halen in over 10 years. (Except the 3 lousy songs with Sammy on Best of Both Worlds) Thats a lot of years of music that has been recorded….and a lot of years in between albums with Sammy…I would love to hear the unreleased songs from F.U.C.K….
August 11th, 2009 at 5:57 pm
///Sometimes you have to leave a little of your past behind so you can embrace the future.///
So let’s embrace the future by touring with songs that are 25-30 years old.
/// It’s called LOYALTY!!! ///
So let’s write songs with your old lead singer in secret while your current lead singer is dealing with a wife whose recently endured a breach pregnancy.
Yeah, that Ed….loyal to the core.
August 11th, 2009 at 6:05 pm
i will be the first to give wolfie credit for getting the ball rolling on this. i can truly relate to ed’s wanting to play with his son because i have a little boy and to me he really rocks. he truly loves eddie and vh( it’s all he listens to). whatever happens with the new line-up doesn’t really matter because according to ducky/dirty duck and the other so-called experts really good bands only last like 6 years and make a couple of albums, not like the stones or ac/dc or def lepard. and if its true that wolf will write songs it will be interesting to see how the fans react to them. it will be VERY hard to match or even top classic vh. and again i will say that dave will be much more of a team player this time around because he knows a cash cow when he see’s one, just like when sammy pulled him off the streets to get him some much needed dough. i’m still not convinced this thing is going to happen because i’m not sure if dave has really changed.
August 11th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Cool, I got things stirred up…hey here’s the wiki line On Planet Us…Planet Us (pronounced Planet-uss) was a short-lived supergroup that formed in 2002 with Sammy Hagar (Montrose, Van Halen) on lead vocals, Neal Schon (Journey) on guitar, Michael Anthony (Van Halen) on bass, and Deen Castronovo (Journey) on drums. The band later recruited a fifth member - famed guitarist Joe Satriani - when their original choice, Slash of Guns N’ Roses fame, turned them down.
So there you have it, as far as I’m concerned this is when Mike left Van Halen. Alot of people want to make Eddie the bad guy and say he kicked Mike out, and maybe “legally” that’s how it’s interpreted because of all the signing away rights stuff, but consider this… after nearly 30 years of being in the band and witnessing how things went down with 3 different singers shouldn’t Mike have known that this would lead to his departure?
August 11th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Never asked about including any Hagar era tunes. . . Sounds a little fishy. I don’t know how you can just leave out a whole era (that sold a ton of albums). I can understand the decision to not include it after discussion but to claim it never even came up makes anything coming out of activision lack credibility.
To the Eddie enablers posting: Chickenfoot is more of a band right now than Van Halen. I would pipe down until there is new music. . . (if there ever is new music). I’ve been waiting a decade and have been let down too many times to get my hopes up again.
August 11th, 2009 at 6:37 pm
Big Al… sorry pal. Your loyalty argument falls completely flat. It’s almost laughable. What was Mike supposed to be loyal to from 1996 to 2004? What the hell was VH doing all that time. Nothing.
You want to talk about loyalty? Mike was the only member of the band during that time that displayed any loyalty to the fans by bringing us VH music. I’m sure he would have rather been playing those tunes with VH but that wasn’t a choice as long as Ed was content to do nothing for years. So he did the next best thing and played them with Sam and Ed canned him for it. Ed should have been thanking him for putting forth an effort to keep the VH name alive since nobody else was doing it at that time.
August 11th, 2009 at 6:39 pm
And Big Al, why would you cite to Chad Smith to back up your position? He’s living proof you can be in two bands.
August 11th, 2009 at 7:39 pm
Cam Winston, your the man. Thats real, not all the chickenshit kiss asses on here. Seriously, what has wolfgang done. Stood in one place on stage for a whole tour with no energy at all. He as gotten Van Halen back in the news. A. There is no new music. B. Its been 2 years since te last tour started witout any sign of new music. And last time I checked a world tour left the continent. Wolfie has done nothing at all except be the son of a famous guitar hero. Get off his dick people until he actually does something. Which I predict will be far short of greatness.
August 11th, 2009 at 7:54 pm
Geez, can we leave the Sammy/Mike thing alone? No, guess not. So here I go. Musician’s usually want to play and/or record music. If a band goes on a long hiatus (Van Halen anyone?) why isn’t ok for other member to find some creative outlets. It reminds me of why Newsted left Metallica. Hetfield would let him play any of his own music on the side, among other reason. So if you choke them long enough what happens? Does it matter if Mike quit or got fired? Either way the guy probably wasn’t happy with the situation.
I’m all for VH in any incarnation, and look forward to seeing what happens. Frankly it’s a bit absurd that there hasn’t been at least something new in so long. (besides the pron music that sucked…in more ways than one.)
Back to Guitar Hero…I don’t get it, but whatever gets the kiddies buying, er, I mean illegally downloading VH tunes.
August 11th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
I love the idea of the game - too bad it wasn’t with rock band ‘cos you can download your own songs on it, so all the other goodies (girl gone bad, simple rhyme etc)can be played, the post earlier about the Us festival and club days is dead on; I hope it plays out like that, start in the clubs then work your way to the last tour stage - the big S stage; it’s all good though… I’m so looking forward to a new album, it’s just a matter of time and patience!!
August 12th, 2009 at 12:05 am
Seriously, there are people on here saying Wolfgang is going to make this happen, Wolfgang is going to make that happen, Wolfgang is going to push the band in a new direction, Wolf is going to blah, blah, blah… Hilarious! Wolf is just some big fat teenager who’s father happens to be Edward Van Halen. And that’s the end of his achievements. Wolfgang is going to do what he’s told to do and nothing more. He might be a catalyst but that’s as far as it goes. He ain’t pushing anything or anyone. Some Van Halen fans are so clueless, do you really think one of the greatest rock bands of all time, a band that changed the course of music is being steered by the fat kid? When they’re writing about Van Halen 25 years from now this is going to be referred to as the odd episode where Edward had his teenage son playing in the band. This is Eddie’s Lynda McCartney phase…
August 12th, 2009 at 3:51 am
I dont care….its just guitar hero…..cool video stuff but nothing compared to really playing and recording
August 12th, 2009 at 3:52 am
Wolf should have fun with it…..he earned it during that tour….lets see if he can record the next van halen album
August 12th, 2009 at 4:43 am
Karl..don’t be such a dick lol. Wolf isn’t steering anyone anywhere, we know that.. I mean we aren’t ignorant. But, if he is in fact responsible for this song list it is great that he is mixing it up so kids can relate to the music.
Stop calling him the fat kid too I mean if you are going to put up an argument at least don’t be so low and present some actual points. Its not like Wolfie isn’t very good..he can play VH tunes I mean you can’t be meteocre and play like Mikey…
Once again I say— leave Wolf alone! He didn’t do anything…
August 12th, 2009 at 6:04 am
Kimberly, How do you know he can play Van Halen Tunes? In the last tour you could make out the Bass as you could make out Dave’s brutal singing. Ed and Al dominated the sound mix to make up for the short comings of the other two. If you had read 80% of the post in this comment section you can see the ignorance. Yea Wolfie, Thanks Wolfie, Wolfie is bringing Van Halen Back…Whatever. All he is bringing is zero energy to the live show and iffy backing vocals at best. How will he do now that his voice has probably changed?
August 12th, 2009 at 7:37 am
“Wolf isn’t steering anyone anywhere, we know that..”
Go read some of the comments in this thread. You might understand that but there’s a few here who think he’s been put in charge.
” leave Wolf alone! He didn’t do anything…”
Exactly. He’s just being indulged by his old man.
And you don’t think there’s anything weird and worth the odd sarcastic comment in seeing a band where the three fifty year olds look like athletes and the seventeen year old looks like a fifty year old?
August 12th, 2009 at 7:50 am
I don’t actually find humor in what you are trying to say about him..but that is my opinion.
And either way he is in the band whether you like it or not. I think he has definitely got skills if he can do his part with the likes of Ed Alex and Dave but hey maybe you know better.
Some of you may be unaware, but VH doesn’t need to listen to you. They don’t need to do anything for you, but they still do. You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes as much as you think you do.
So, if you respect the music and love it as much as I do, I would suggest piping down and waiting.
And speaking of humor. I think its funny that the older folks here are acting like three year olds. And you are worried about someone’s physicality? Hmm..okay now I get it.
Van Halen for life<3 (Even when they take their time)
August 12th, 2009 at 8:00 am
Kim
Seriously…dont even waste your time with people who find that to make a point they have to bring up someones weight.
A lot of people on this site are very frustrated, bitter, human beings who cant get anything out of life unless it’s VH related. It’s kinda pathetic actually. I’ve even tried to accept some views here and start a friendly debate or conversation and end up empty handed. Why? Cause a lot here are empty headed. I say love what makes you happy and rock on. Why sit around depressed and angry? Get out and live. Not sit around trying to look intellegent debating on weather or not the son of a genius guitar player “has it”.
Time to get a life fella’s…
August 12th, 2009 at 8:04 am
Kimberly, will you marry me? LOL
August 12th, 2009 at 8:21 am
Yes:) Lol as long as Jump can be our wedding song. <3
August 12th, 2009 at 8:36 am
Rock on Kimberly!!!
And as for you Karl? Piss off LOSER!!!!! How would you like people calling your kids (if you have any?) names? Like Kimberly right stated “They don’t need to do anything for you, but they still do. You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes as much as you think you do”.
If you think Van Halen actually listen to your moaning and cry baby comments, then your more stupid than I thought!!! Van Halen have much better things to do with their lives!! Their musicians! They live, breath and eat music!! Unlike you…you eat shit!!!!
August 12th, 2009 at 8:46 am
Kimberly, who said I didn’t like Wolf in the band. I think he did a great job on the tour.
I think it’s pretty obvious that VH doesn’t listen to any of us. Of course they don’t need to do anything or any of us… well, maybe being honest might be nice.
Correct, I have absolutely no idea what’s going on behind the scenes.
Yeah, I just have to wait? Well I’ve been waiting or 13 years. How’s that for waiting?
Worried? Eh? Hey, if you can’t stay away for the pies then don’t complain if people point and laugh…
August 12th, 2009 at 8:50 am
Will the Eddie haters please go to your Chickenfoot fan page. It’s Eddie’s band and he can fire or hire anyone he wants. You’ve said your piece every single post that shows up here and makes me wonder why you won’t get a life and go honor “The foot”. We don’t care what you think. Eddie has given us so much kick ass music and anything else we may get is just another gift that should be appreciated.
Go hang at the Chickenfoot news desk and do your whining there.
August 12th, 2009 at 9:24 am
Okay okay whateverr. I am too much of a hippie for all this complaining I guess. I quite know what it is like to wait..just because it hasn’t been thirteen years doesn’t mean I don’t know how annoying it is. Ten years has been enough for me lol.
PEACE! I don’t mean to offend or anything. I’m all in it for the music anywayssss.
Sorry you have been waiting for so long…it seems like the Van Halen fan camp should have a warning that says– you may have to wait a decade or more for any response from the band.
Til then tho, guess we do just have to wait:(
August 12th, 2009 at 9:32 am
And even if there is waiting involved I should hope we are good enough fans to chill out and trust them.
DLR<3
August 12th, 2009 at 10:28 am
By the way. Weezer blows.
August 12th, 2009 at 10:34 am
David St. Hubbins… take a glance at the title of this website. “The net’s best source for Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and CHICKENFOOT news.” (emphasis added)
August 12th, 2009 at 11:00 am
Oh jeez….
August 12th, 2009 at 11:01 am
I have yet to be privy to Wolfgang’s genius. He was drowned out in the mix during the “reunion” tour and I’m skeptical that he sung anything (Mikey backing tracks?). Have him step up and play a guitar or bass solo, give him a lead in a song or jam, something. So far - nothing. I could care less if he’s good at Guitar Hero.
August 12th, 2009 at 11:40 am
“Will the Eddie haters please go to your Chickenfoot fan page.”
Could you point out the ‘Eddie haters”? Because I can’t see any.
August 12th, 2009 at 11:46 am
Chad, no, I have to give him his due, I heard some pretty good playing from Wolf despite the volume and mix that seemed designed to kill the audience.
August 12th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Yeah I agree with Karl…he definitely did the playing.
I think its not so much Eddie haters just like really impatient people lol. Though after all these years its hard to call people impatient, it has been quite awhile.
Just gotta hang in there guys! I don’t doubt we will see something soon!:)

I understand why everybody would be all for another Van Halen record…if another record is released, I will definitely listen to it too. But at the same time I don’t think anybody should get their hopes up. LIVE YOUR LIVES!!! LOL…the only reason I say this is because I remember how pysched I was before the release of VHIII…there was so much hype surrounding that album. In fact, I felt there was too much because when it was released I was upset—it wasn’t any good. So if the day comes for a new album, it will be sweet. But until then, I don’t think it’s even worth thinking about. Everybody’s got their opinions, but the facts are unchangeable: (1) It has been 11 years since the last Van Halen album was released. (2) Eddie Van Halen has been known to stretch the truth. (3) The last five albums (as a whole) were not really good. YES, THERE WERE AWESOME SONGS ON EACH ALBUM, but it was hard to sit through them in their entirety.

Wolfie picked out a few songs for GH:VH - END OF STORY!!!!!!!
How some of you so called “fans” can read any further into that is just plain ridiculous.
If/when a new album is released by VH its still gonna be the same fans complaining that it wasn’t what they expected, etc.
Oh yeah - Karl you’re a jerk

Kayser,
So, if Chickenfoot want’s to keep touring until the end of the year. WHO PLAY’S DRUMS for them? Chad will be recording with his REAL band! What about the Chickenfoot fans being short changed because Chickenfoot is limited to tour only 2 months and can’t play to all the cities they would like because of scheduling!
Laughable? You just agreed with me. What was Mike suppose to do from 2000-2004 just sit around? NO. He started a NEW BAND. Good for him!
Maybe, just maybe, you should look up the definition of loyalty! Being there in good times and bad not just when fame and fortune are involved!

Ryan - about the last 5 albums as a whole…yeah you’re probably right there. But I have to say I thought “Balance” was a great album.

I’m happy for VH if they’re happy. I’m also happy for the Dave fans that waited so long for all this. I hope there’s another album sometime too and that it makes everyone happy.
I just saw Chickenfoot (again) and wow - it made me extremely excited about music, and very happy as a person. They just have something special going on, and it was a pleasure to be surrounded by people who were absolutely being blown away.
Sometimes the back and forth on here is interesting, and other times it was a waste of time. I have a feeling that if all the Sammy-only folks had went as a group to the VH tour that they would have had a great time. (I did!) If all the Dave-only folks went to see Chickenfoot, you would have had a great time too. (Live is where it’s at - it was face-meltingly good!)
I have been fortunate enough to see some amazing concerts this summer: Paul McCartney, KISS, Chickenfoot, Fogerty, etc., and you know what? Music is much more fun to experience live the way it was meant to be, rather than arguing incessantly about this and that.
As for the topic at hand, good for Wolf to make music interesting enough for the band to want to stick around a little longer. Having seen Mike with CF, I am seeing his talents on display like never before. However, if Wolf makes Eddie feel like playing, then hey…I guess everyone wins.
I hope each and every one of you gets to see some truly great shows this summer. No matter who is playing your town, get your asses out there, open you minds, raise a glass (or plastic cup), yell, scream, and have a good time.
I see the whole VH & CF thing alot differently now. I think we’re all better off to have TWO great bands like that rather than one…or none.
From what I’ve seen, everyone is in the right band for them for the year 2009 and beyond.
PEACE EVERYONE!

To Chad & all the naysayers & Eddie bashers!!!
So you think Wolfie was singing to a Mike backing track? And you think pigs can fly too huh? So I guess you’re in the inner sanctum of Van Halen, you know everything? So it was YOU who was pressing the Mike backing track button for Wolfie huh? Do you listen to yourself? You’re so full of shit that you make talking shit an art form!!!
In fact a few on this site would put to shame all the shit talkers in the whole world!!! You think you know so much that it sounds like you work for Van Halen!! All you Eddie bashers, Sam lovers and naysayers are so full of SHIT!!!!!

Karl
Come on. Calling the kid fat. Get a clue and some class please.
We all know that without wolf pushing dad to get back together with DLR, VH would be dead in the water. Wolf even confessed his love for classic VH. He is responsible for what is now happening. Period.
Give the kid his credit. On top of that, he is a solid player that can sing. After all, he has VH blood.

love van halen.not mad like with satch but enough to own all albums.ill admit that after seeing the song list and whats been confirmed im a little miffed.with GH:M (why i bought into GH)the game spanned a career,it doesnt have everything but enough to keep a fan happy.(prob not a die hard fan)so having only half a career on GH:VH is fodder for being butthurt.then again if you is a die hard DLR VH fan will it be the most awesome GH?
if like someone suggested, they bring out a second game with the other half on it ,it will be cool.for people like me anyway.as for wolf he no doubt plays better than me so i wont diss.

Rickie, is he not fat, then? You’ve got to admit, there’s a certain absurdity in the fifty somethings having the bodies of a seventeen year old and the seventeen year old looking like an out of shape fifty something. Anyway, just a little gentle ribbing.
You’re kind of correct in your second point only I think your emphasis is slightly in the wrong place. To say that Wolf is ‘pushing’ probably comes at it from the wrong direction. As I said, Wolf is the catalyst. And that’s just due to Eddie’s obsession with family (you can find evidence of this obsession in his interviews throughout the years). But yes, Wolf is the reason that anything has or will happen at the moment. But he’s a catalyst not a driver.
And as far as credit goes, I have come to his defense. As I said, I think he did a great job on the tour. Not only did he fill Mike’s shoes well (even though it might have been sans the spirit of Rock ‘n’ Roll) I think the way he embellished many of Mike’s parts was also excellent. I remember thinking “Well, he might only be here because he’s Ed’s son, but the kid really can play”. It was a pleasant surprise on the night.

I always enjoy reading your posts Karl. I happen to respect the kid a great deal, regardless of his last name. Van Halen with a big bottom (pun intended for your benefit) is something we’ve never heard before.

Certainly, a big bottom is something we can expect on the next record. I think we’ll get bass in the mix like we’ve never had it before.

Long live the wolf !!!!!!!!!!!!
August 16th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
Maybe that is why chicken foot wrote the song bitten by the WOLF, it wasn’t about vampires it was about ol mikey being booted for the wolf

Cuz they are and remain VH fans. Remember that Guitar World Cover where he had the stiped up replica pointing at you with the star. Weezer is cool.
Mentioning they “borrowed” the classic early year VH logo.
( I still like their ‘95 video of them lampooning Happy Day’s)
