I saw it last night and I could hardly tell it was playing in the background. Maybe I didn’t have my volume up enough, but it sure seemed like you could hardly hear it. Anyhow, once I knew it was the Halen, I turned it up. Entourage always has pretty good music in the show.
Woof.
July 27th, 2009 at 11:42 am
C’mon VHND is this all you got? We know their isn’t much news out of the DLR and VH camps these days and On Fire is a bad ass jam, but this is just BS news!!!!! I’d rather have no news than this BS news!!!!
July 27th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
Hottt…love this song:) Good choice Entourage<3
July 27th, 2009 at 12:30 pm
COOL !
thanks for the news!
July 27th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Well…not the most exciting news…but i do love ” on fire”
Song kicks ass man….
Funny story. The other night im watching an episode of family ties. It’s the episode where mallory and skippy get locked in the basement together? Well anyway skippy goes to check the fusebox and theres a box of “records” in front of it. Guess what the first record in the group is? Yup…the FIRST VH record. I even freeze framed and magnified. There it was! LOL! There was also another episode (same season 5)
when mallory mentions going to see a VH concert. I’m taking it this was around the time “back to the future” was released cause we all know what music marty mcfly used to make his father ask his mom out! Damn right…VH!
Thought some would get a kick out of that.
So there’s my not van halen news but it is for the day!
Quack! quack!
July 27th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
It’s the Jeremy Piven connection.
He is also in that new movie that metions Van Halen
July 27th, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Thanks for bringing it up Ducky, cause I’ve always wanted to know…
Does anyone know what track that is, or where that music comes from for the ‘Darth Vader from the planet Vulcan’ scene from “Back To The Future”
I think I read it was from something Eddie actually laid down for the movie… can anyone confirm?
“This country has gone to hell in a hand basket ever since David Lee Roth left Van Halen” - Michael Binkley from Bloom County.
July 27th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Yes, I believe Eddie did lay down a track for the film.
July 27th, 2009 at 7:08 pm
Why is this news, Entourage Sucks!!!!
July 27th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
If I remember correctly Eddie was asked for some guitar stuff, he just picked a tape from the studio and was told that was perfect for the film.
July 27th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
too bad that show is gay
July 28th, 2009 at 4:49 am
Check the Wild Life(Movie). Very close to the same stuff in Back to the Future.
July 28th, 2009 at 5:33 am
Vaniciando,
I could be way off on this one (im a huge film buff)but i think i read somewhere that michael j fox was a huge fan of VH and wanted to meet eddie. Supposidly they met…hung out and mike mentioned he was doing this film called ” Back to the future”. I think robert zemekis (the director) asked eddie to play something for the film…but not a theme song.
Supposidly what you hear there were out takes of songs that would eventually end up on 5150. You figure the movie was released in 1985 right? Well not long after dave left VH and they were still looking for a singer…or singers.
Either way I love that scene. You can def here elements of “get up” in it…
July 28th, 2009 at 7:34 am
Two F430s, two 430 Scuderias and a California. Who gives a fuck what music’s playing in the background. Even VH doesn’t sound as good as that lot! lol!
July 28th, 2009 at 8:09 am
zzzzzz
July 28th, 2009 at 9:03 am
Let’s liven this up shall we?
What is, in your opinion, the absolute best Van Halen song (Sam/DLR/Gary) of ALL TIME! Not your favorite per say…maybe the one you find most complex musically, most popular in general…whatevs!
This is a really hard question, I think lol I’m gonna take my time here… <3 XOXO
July 28th, 2009 at 9:05 am
Guess what? I was driving home last night and, oh my god you’re not going to believe this, they played two in row from Van Halen on the radio!
July 28th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Thanks Skutch, ben, Ducky… I remember almost wearing out an old VHS tape going over that scene trying to figure out where that music came from…
Going to take a stroll over to Youtube and see if I can wear down their cyberstream… I do remember the drum track sounded like the electonic kit Alex was sporting for ‘5150′, so Ducky, you may have hit the mark on that!
Kimberly… I think you’ve started a whole new thread. As far as technically sound, or complicated songs… Yikes! Where do you start?
Tora Tora/Loss Of Control.
One I Want.
Right Now.
A.F.U.
Outta Love Again.
And I know that Eddie had alot of trouble with Big Bad Bill! (but that ain’t original, of course!!)
My vote for most popular Van Halen song… Panama. (theme song of my 18th birthday.)
July 28th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Kim,
Wow…that’s a tough one!
Dont want to be the outsider here but i truly love the first six roth era albums. I can honestly say i love every song on each record / disc. But to anwser your question I would have to go with ” Girl Gone Bad”. It just reaks of raw VH. Alex’s drums VS. Eddies crazy guitar licks, Dave’s vocals which sound so good on this track, and some STELLAR back ground vocals from mike while singing the chorus!
July 28th, 2009 at 11:34 am
kimberly, very tough to choose but,
1. meanstreet
2. little guitars
3. 5150
4. black and blue

10.dance the night away
July 28th, 2009 at 11:42 am

July 28th, 2009 at 11:53 am
I would say the most popular is Everybody wants some!!
July 28th, 2009 at 12:58 pm

May the gods of rock n roll bless kimberly’s dirty little heart…
July 28th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
that a boy scar! what makes VH great is you can’t just choose one song in their catalog…
July 28th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Ice Cream Man … love the bluesiness.
July 28th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
That’s a tough one Kimberly.
I guess I can give a top three.
3. Humans Being—Just shows how good VH and Hagar were becoming. I think their next album would have been heavy.
2. Dreams—I know it’s sappy but I think it is one of the best songs of all time.
1. Mean Street—I just love Eddie’s riffs on this one.
This is fun!! Let’s add a new twist.
What are your favorite underrated or unappreciated VH songs?
Mine….
3. Dirty Movies
2. Sucker in a Three Piece
1. Summer Nights
July 29th, 2009 at 2:45 am
Nice one Kimberly, no-one is fighting! If I can only choose one…. that’s tough, but I’ll have to agree with Duck, I’ve always loved how Ed & Alex play off each other in Girl Gone Bad, I also think Ed was getting his all-time best guitar sound on 1984.
Ace;I guess that would count as an underated track too. More of this kind of stuff, love it!
July 29th, 2009 at 4:52 am
Whole Lotta Rosie…
July 29th, 2009 at 8:54 am
I personally think that one of the most underated VH songs is ” I’ll Wait”.
I think many dont like the song because it reeks of 80’s synths and I also heard comments about why it shouldnt have been on the reunion set list. “It hasnt aged well…etc”
I beg to differ.
I think the song is stellar.
It’s just a really cool song. I dont consider it a ballad at all. Sure…for a VH song (at that time) it was hard for some fans to accept (including jump). Not many wanted to see eddie playing a keyboard. In retrospect i can understand why.
But ” I’ll Wait” has this quality about it that i cant put my finger on. It’s just a cool “soothing” rock song.
The lyrics are cool and i love eddie’s solo on it.
Sure for a min here and there it sounds like it could have been used in an episode of “miami vice”….but all in all one of my personal faves.

When my oldest brother brought home new Vinyl, he had a tradition of putting it on the record player and playing each side front to back. Something about creating a continuous groove to cause less scratching and popping…
Anyhow… I remember he put on side two first cause everyone wanted to hear ‘Hot For Teacher.’ Then, of course, we had to wait for the album to flip to hear ‘Jump’ and ‘Panama.’
When ‘I’ll Wait’ started, I was glued to my seat… That song mesmorized me! Then of course, I had to wait for Side B to finish, and go through Side A to hear it again… Not too hard of a wait, though.
Totally underated! Almost a haunted quality to it! And ironically one of the ‘reasons’ Dave left the band.
July 29th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Great post VANICIONADO!
You nailed it on the head with the word: haunted!
It’s one of those songs that you either “really like” or you deal with.
I love it too man. It’s a very simple song but as it plays it gets very technical. Does that make any sense?
Either way good to know i’m not the only one who feels that way.
Rock on brother!
July 29th, 2009 at 2:56 pm
BEST Vh song?? Unchained
Most popular?? Jump
One that completely BLEW MY MIND?? AFU. Eddie is just sick on that one (like EVERY VH song…lol). I could listen to that main riff over and over all day long.
Good thread Kimberly!
July 29th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
I always liked “I’ll Wait”. It had a real clean sound to it and I love Alex’s drum beats on it.
July 30th, 2009 at 5:23 am
Yeah ace…
Alex’s drums do sound sick on it!
Never liked the drums he used on 5150 and on…
July 30th, 2009 at 6:17 am
I can totally see why “Jump” is one of the most popular VH songs. Many cant stand it but I for one love it. It’s just a “feel good song”. Anytime I hear it i think summer.
My first exposure to VH was when i was 10 years old. Went away to the catskills with my family. It was the summer of 85′ and it was a great time to be a kid. I remember being by the pool and this guy walked past me with a boombox on his shoulder (which everyone did back in those days…you know, the look) and I hear this song that caught my attention immediately. “Jump”. I actually remeber following the guy around until the song was over! Ha ha. The guy probley was like: whats this little kid doing? It wasnt until a week after my friend’s brother had it playing in his room. I ran in and asked him who sang it. He said kid…I’m going to introduce you to the best rock and roll band since the stones. He sat me down and played me: Jump, panama, hot for teacher (which i asked him to play twice cause i loved the drum intro)and unchained. From that point on i was hooked.
So when i hear people say that “jump” sucks or is the lamest VH song I smile to myself. To some it may be a thorn in their rock n roll side…but to me it was just the beginning of my love for classic VH…
Jump!
July 30th, 2009 at 10:51 am
I’m a HUGE VH fan but this is truly sad and pathetic if they consider this VH news? Zzzzzzzz
1.Mean Street
2.Unchained
3.Romeo Delight
July 31st, 2009 at 5:16 pm
Well thanks for the thread Kim. I happen to love “On Fire” because it is so heavy and contains so many different sections that are just seemlessly threaded together. Dave’s scream after the first chorus is legendary. The guitar solo is absolute magic and does not seem to belong in any key. It is technical and tonally brilliant. The tune just oozes with anger. I love it.
That being said, Pound for pound:
#1 VH Song; Hear About it Later
August 7th, 2009 at 9:29 am
Well thanks to HOBO we can’t see it anymore. Wasn’t really dyin to see it anyway. (rolleyes)
August 16th, 2009 at 4:03 am
I am hoping there will be a movie adaption of entourage at some point, my favourite series by far.
