Eddie Van Halen – in Flip-Flops – Weds Girlfriend

Saturday, 27 June 2009

The ceremony took place in the garden of his seven-acre estate in the hills above Studio City, Calif., starting at 7 p.m., when Liszewski walked down the aisle to Van Halen’s “When It’s Love,” performed by the Sonus Quartet.

The 54-year-old groom’s 18-year-old son, Wolfgang, served as best man, while brother Alex Van Halen, an ordained minister, officiated at the 20-minute, nondenominational service. Among the 100 guests: Van Halen’s ex-wife, Valerie Bertinelli (they divorced in 2006, after 25 years of marriage.)

The bride, 39, was given away by her mother under the watchful eye of Kano, the 15-year-old Pomeranian who walked Liszewski down the aisle. This was her first marriage and Van Halen’s second.

Liszewski wore a champagne and pink custom-designed Hanna Hartnell gown with matching Bulgari earrings and bracelet. Her sister, Jennifer, served as maid of honor. Eddie and Wolfie dressed casually in Sy Devore cotton pants, un-tucked buttoned-down shirts and flip-flop sandals – as did the bride and wedding attendants.

The couple wrote their vows and designed the rings – Janie’s, a platinum band beside a nearly three-carat diamond engagement ring; Ed’s, a gold band with yellow diamonds.

At 7:30 guests were served appetizers such as mini hamburgers and corn dogs, roasted garlic-parmesan, French fries, and an assortment of nonalcoholic beverages from the lemonade bar. Later on, diners were treated to organic fare such as heirloom tomatoes, baby arugula salad, Niman Ranch Filet Mignon, orange and rosemary glazed grilled chicken, Mojito-marinated prawns and grilled vegetables.

The simple, elegant wedding cake was layered with white chocolate, strawberries, whipped cream and decorated with white hydrangeas. The bride and groom toasted with non-alcoholic French Sparkling Apple Cider and Sparkling Pear Juice honoring Eddie’s year and a half of sobriety.

The evening’s entertainment ranged from an aerial tissue performance to a contortionist in a clear plastic ball on top of the pool. After dinner, Ed chose Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful” as the traditional first dance. Next came Janie’s choice, Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time, ” as she invited the guests to join them. DJ KMP provided the rest of the music as the bride and groom boogied into the night.

As the party ended, each guest received Calvin Klein and Kate Spade vases and flowers. They were also treated to old-fashioned-style candy, including ring pops, candy necklaces, pop rocks, wax lips and custom printed M & M’s.

The couple plan to honeymoon in New York, Germany and the Netherlands, where Eddie was born.

  20. SCAR says:

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Van Halen!!!! It’s great to see that you have stayed strong and your enjoying the best life has to offer!!!!

  21. reservoirgoose says:

Skibble5150: How else do you have a party with a recently recovering alcoholic? If any of Eddie’s guests couldn’t see the importance of a dry wedding reception, then they’re a lousy friend. Any of you that think Eddie should have served alcohol are fools. You don’t serve an addict with their drug of choice. It was an incredibly mature and responsible decision on their part to have an alcohol-free event.

  22. Erick says:

    Congratulations Ed and Janie.

Don’t forget to visit Frank while your in Nederland.

Can’t wait for the 2010 tour!

  23. MA=VH says:

Congrats to Ed and Janie; hope it all works out well for them. Interesting that Ed was ok with a Sammy era song being played while Janie walked down the aisle after all the bitterness. Hope he gets down to putting some music out after the honeymoon. Any ideas on them getting knocked up? Janie is only 39 after all….

    MA=VH

  24. Shawn says:

I wish them the best. I hope they find happiness.

  25. Bocephus says:

  26. brivington says:

Congratulations Eddie and Janie on your marriage! Congratulations Eddie on your year and a half sobriety, and on behalf of all (I think I can speak for them) the Van Halen fans in the entire world, thank you Janie, Wolfgang, Alex, Matt and all the other VH friends and family who helped Eddie shake that demon off his back. Right on!!!

    Best Wishes….brivington

  27. Chicken Joe says:

    They already did, each other.

  28. Dave Bennett says:

love to you Ed (and Janie)and lots of luck … but it ain’t right in my head as it’ll always be you and (my favorite of all time) Valerie … but that’s just me.

  29. Darren from Brooklyn says:

Congrats! best wishes and happiness to you both.See you on the next tour.

  30. Pat says:

Great now get together with your brother & make some beautiful music together!

  31. jeff says:

    Skibble515o,
    you are a moron!!!

    Mike,
I really doubt Ed would have invited you. “friends” support Eddies re-habilitation, and would not expect any booze at the wedding out of respect for Eddie and his and his new wife’s day……….douche!!

  32. Joe says:

Since it wasn’t mentioned, does anyone wonder if Dave was invited?

  33. Nick says:

Congrats to you and your new wife.I am wondering why Dave was not at the wedding, could this be a sign that things are not as well as Eddie had said?I hope not,was really looking forward to them going back into the studio as Ed stated after the wedding.Wolfie is out of school and Ed is married now,so please make a new album!!!!!

  34. Bran Halen says:

Congrats to Eddie and Janie!! I wonder if Dave was there? I wish Mike, Gary had Sammy would have been there as well since Janie did walk down the isle to a song Sammy co-wrote.

  35. Rich says:

Yeah, if Dave had been them I’m sure orchestral Van Hagar might not have been the most comfortable thing for him, but its Ed’s day not Daves. Coincidently, why wasn’t he there?

  36. T.O. Mike says:

    All the Best EVH!!!

  37. Eric Upfold says:

Congratulations to a lovely couple and may you spend many blissful decades together. Tracy and Eric Upfold, Scotland.

  38. Jarret says:

Congratulations to Edward and the beautiful bride! All the best!

  39. Polish Fan says:

    Eddie, congratulations from Poland! wonderfull…

  40. Mark says:

I find it a little ominous for the future of the current incarnation of Van Halen that Dave wasn’t there.

  41. The Doctor says:

    Congrats!

  42. The Full Bug says:

Congrats, Ed and Janie! Much happiness! :D

  43. Chris CA. says:

BIG Contrats from Melbourne, Australia to King Eddie and his beautiful bride Janie!!!! May you have all the ROCKIN’ HAPPINESS forever together!!!! 3 Cheers!!!

  44. Phil says:

    Yeah seriously, was Dave there?

  45. Justin says:

I believe this article never said “David Lee Roth did not show / David Lee Roth was not invited” so why do people keep assuming he wasn’t there? It said there was 100 guests so I’m sure if DLR was there, he would fit into that category. Im not saying he was there but saying he ” was not there” is completely ridiculous. Besides, it’s Ed’s wedding and he can invite anyone he want’s… DLR or not.

Congratulations Ed, I hope everything goes well and I wish to hear new music from you soon. =)

  46. Jim says:

Sammy and Mike were invited but they couldn’t come because they are in there own band.

  47. Jim St James says:

Congrats to the whole Van Halen family and the newest addition Janie!!!! When I got married my wife and my first dance was “When it’s Love”. Soon the Honeymoon will be over and then (hopefully)in about 6-12 mons, we will all rejoyce at NEW Van Halen Music and a tour!! Yay!!! (does anyone know if Dave was there?) Godspeed Eddie and Janie !!! Many Happy Returns!!!

  48. greg says:

Justin is right. This article only listed one guest - Val - simply because it is notable that the ex wife was invited and came. This was a celebrity news report about a wedding, so I don’t find it strange in any way that Dave was not listed. Not everything in the world revolves around whether or not VH records new music. This was all about family, and everyone listed - Al, Wolf, Janie’s family and even the ex wife Valerie, are all family. Dave is not family even if him and Ed are getting along well right now.

I strongly suspect that Dave was there, and him and Ed are still getting along well right now, or else we would have heard something from Dave in the press by now about how VH is no more. Congrats to Ed and Janie! It is great to see Ed happy and healthy again!

  49. RA 8 1 2 says:

Regarding DLR being there or not, im sure that if he was it would have been mentioned just because of the media interest in the whole Van Halen drama saga. We may never know. Also, im glad to see Eddie had a non alcohol bar to keep up his sobriety. I was thinking about this and we all know he went to rehab, etc. If he did the steps in “the program” do you think he got to that step where he had to apologize to everyone he fucked over while being drunk, etc? Somehow I dont think Sam or Mike will be getting a call.

  50. RA 8 1 2 says:

ALSO, interesting how they played “When its Love.” Is Eddie actually acknowledging the Sammy era of Van Halen? He never does anywhere else. Wven the bands own web site has no mention of the albums. Only DLR albums. Hummmmmm.

  51. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

You guys look waaaaay too much into things.
Put the bullshit pondering aside for a day or so losers
and let the man enjoy his new marriage…

  52. CARMINE-HOBOKEN says:

CONGRATS EDDIE!!! LOTS OF LOVE, HEALTH, AND HAPPINESS TO YOU AND FAMILY.

  53. Joel New Halen says:

Two thumbs up for Eddie’s true friends and fans, the one’s that understand that he needs to be cleaned of off the booze. And to the rest of you critisizing the absence of alcohol at the bar I just hope you don’t consider yourselves fans, or even worse friends. Who wrote the book about the importance of having alcoholic beverages in a wedding and that leading to a happier wedding day, it usually does have the contrary effect! Shame on all of you!!! And to Eddie and Janie my best wishes and lots of years together filled with happiness, health, wealth and above all LOVE!!! I hope that “Love walks in” both of your lives and never leaves from there! GOD bless!!!
