A little update on Guitar Hero: Van Halen; the game is officially scheduled to be released during the timeframe of November/December, 2009.

Why does Van Halen need a game?
Games stop people from learning music, instead of learning how to play music, they just know how to press 5 different coloured buttons on a plastic guitar.

Umm, what new album? And umm, what tour? How can you be that optimistic given EVH’s recent past of bs he’s been feeding us fans for years? Even if or when a new album does come out, I fully expect another VH3 musically, only with Dave singing instead of Gary. Ed is sober and he insists on running the show now. Too bad he isn’t capable of doing a good job at it.

It’s great to have this game. There is still a huge following for the Guitar Hero games and this is a great way for kids to get to know the raw, hard rock energy of Van Halen.
As someone mentioned…”Just in time for the new album’s release!!!” No, I am sorry. No album is expected in the next 8 months. However…there has been mention from a very high level musician that there will be an album out before the “World…We’re Back and Kicking Ass” tour of 2010-2011. One rumored song is called “Diamond” and a solo by Eddie that this guys says..”Is Eruption times the energy of 10 nuclear bombs”.
The Van Halen camp is stirring. As a life long Van Halen fan that has endured Eddies false hopes, I am hella excited for what is coming! 2010-2011 will be the year of Van Halen. Guys, bunker down! The boys are coming back and they are gonna destroy the world!

You know what I don’t get? Is how Eddie has time to make his shoes, make a new game, and keep working on his guitar but not make a new album?! What the hell?! I love Van Halen, don’t get me wrong, and Eddie for that matter, but come on!!!! Lets make new album instead of wasting all of this time!!!

Let me tell the “positive” VH fans out there to ignore this silly banter from these “so called fans”. VH has been in the music business for over 35 years…have released 10 studio albums (which is a miracle in itself since many rock bands usually don’t make it past 6)….and have influenced many generations in style attitude and musicianship. If these guys wanna release some shoes…a videogame, ect. Let it be!
They dont need to PROVE anything to anyone here. They made their impact in the rock world.
What pisses me off today is some shitty wannabe rock group (or pop stars) who make one album and become an instant succcess overnight. These mutha’s are merchandise whores ok? One hit song and here come the fucking towels!
These are the groups you should be opening fire on. Not a group that worked their freaking asses off to give us the great music that will be with us forever. I for one am proud to be a classic VH fan. I wish others here would stop making it so embarrassing to come around this site.

Man did “Ducky/Dirty Duck” say it right.Van Halen has done it all.Past present future,Dave,Sammy or Gary,we as fans will enjoy the music period.Eddie really has nothing to prove to anybody.I think the products that he offers are great just some cost too much like the wolfgang guitar for a working guy to buy.As for the video game I can now have something to enjoy with my little ones til they are big enough to play real guitars and drums.Guys great comments keep it up.VH til I die!!!!!!

They should have put Mikey in the game. From what I understand you can play the game with the band being younger and older. Put Wolfie in when you play 2009 line-up but to completely snuff out Mikes legacy…. Eddie has a real cross to burn.

I don’t see whats wrong with a guitar video game if people keep in mind that they’re not learning anything about guitar playing it, and just have fun.
Bands are finding that its better for them to release their albums on Guitar Hero because they make so much off of it. I can’t wait its gonna be an awesome game and I played guitar for years and have never really played guitar hero but I want to make sure that Guitar Hero Van Halen is the most popular game ever. Yeaaaa!!!!

I’ve had this conversation over and over. Don’t hate the Guitar Hero concept, hate those posers that think they’re guitar gods that can play anything. Guitar Hero is like playing air-guitar, but with a sense of competition and challenge. Nothing else. Smart people know the difference between a game, and a form of art. Can’t wait ’til the game comes out

yes Jim, the game is coming out in 2009, but they certainly have made the members in it look like they are from 1978………which means, MIKEY SHOULD BE IN THAT ERA OF THE GAME AT LEAST. If they want Wolfie in it…..no problem……make a section of the game devoted to the reunion tour, cut Eddies hair, bald out some of DLR’S hair, give Alex the Fu-Manchu, and then stick Wolfie in there. Hell, even give him the blue striped bass, but at least give Mikey his dues for what he did in the early years. I would love to see the Jack Daniels bass in there somewhere.

seriously people, who really cares if Mike is in a VH game. its a VIDEO GAME! were people this pissed that Clif or Jason werent in the Metallica one? its no different than the other GH games, only the ugly animated sims resemble VH. this game will be huge, no mikey needed.
i have a gut feeling that The Beatles: Rock Band will out sell it though…

all we are saying is that as true VH fans, it would be really great to ACCURATELY document and portray our favorite band in ALL THINGS VH RELATED. We know it’s only a video game, but it something that our beloved band has put their name to, and it would just be nice for the actual band members to recognize “the truth”, accept “the truth”, and not tarnish what was a great legacy by being petty and trying so hard to erase or alter that period in time that was so incredible. If anyone is being petty about this, it is whoever is responsible for mis-representing a truely great group of talented individuals.Remember…….”it was only an album cover” that Mike was taken off of on the official site. No different from a video game I suppose………

first off i want to say, thanks for not flaming me lol i see your point about the album covers and that, but perhaps we are jumping to conclusions anyway. maybe the game doesnt feature the timeline of the band’s career but just features them as ‘current’ and the 80s looking clips we’ve seen is just an unlockable?

Yes, you have indeed seen this before, ace5150…
…with Aerosmith, Metallica, The Beatles, and soon, many more! It’s a huge honor for a band to be big enough & popular enough to actually be the main band featured in a game like this - a game that will sell millions of units and help keep VH alive by exposing them to gobs of kids that might very well never have gotten into them otherwise.
Can you imagine all the rock bands that would give an arm and a leg to be featured in a game like this?
Any big VH fan that is angry that there is a guitar hero VH game is a strange bird.

I don’t think anyone is “angry” that there is a game. I think we are all stoked and proud of our boys to be featured, it is just a little upsetting at the lengths some people will go to, to erase a key element of that history. Why not just make it for what VH is really known for, Dave, Eddie, Alex, AND MIKE??
Hell, I agree, the game should have ALL INCARNATIONS of the band, I just don’t think they should exclude the most important era.
As a joke, they should put in segments of all the in-fighting and drama in a battle, THEN it would be an accurate representation of the bands history!!LOL Players could pick a side and duke it out…….they do it here anyways……..

Mike and Sammy are not in the game because they are not in the band. If they were to be put in the game then they would have to be paid for it. This game isn’t about paying tribute to the history of Van Halen as much as we would like to think it should be. It’s about making money. Sammy and Mike are not in the band, hence no need to put them in the game, hence no need to pay them.
I remember looking through the archived photos in GH:Metallica. There were many photos that Cliff and Jason were originally in, but were simply “cropped out” of the pics in the game. Sad in a way, but that’s business.

i’d PREFER a game that recogdnised all the alumni …but van halen has always pretended that whatever version of van halen exists is ” the REAL van halen ” i’m used to it.
this game is ok, i might get it for my kids ( PS3 80-gig ..they LOVE it ) but its niether here nor there .
i would much rather ED have some clips of him and al jamming at 5150 and posting them onhis website as a teaser for the next record ( ? )

I disagree, I don’t play the games (yes, guitar 25+ years) but my kids play. This game gets you into the mental state needed to play an instrument, and most importantly, gets you to focus on the most important part of guitar, the rhythm (ie. the beat). It is a great, but very limited introduction to learning how music/songs are built. And to get good, you have to practice, practice,…. . Positive in my opinion.
