If you want to hear a great album from a musical stand-point, I've always thought this was an awesome disk. You have to listen to it a few times, before forming an opinion. If you want to hear original quality material with "no covers" or "radio hits" check it out.

C'mon everyone, this was not a good album. Slam dunk made me want to blow chunks! And this is a major concern as DLR and EVH prepare for thier response to Chickenfoot. I mean, what is left in the tank? While I don't think Sammy, Michael, and company were thinking about DLR and EVH when they wrote and recorded Chickenfoot, I do see the opposite happening. Yes, revenge is in the air! Since now SH, DLR, and EVH have all had thier "Eat 'em and Smile" albums, the question remains if DLR and EVH can create an "Eat 'em and Smile II": devoured and beaming.

DLR Band put out a great album, in my opinion.

Oh, I love Chickenfoot, too.

Also, I like all of the VH albums (even VHIII had a few moments).

Imagine that, you can enjoy all of the music and not make it a pissing contest. Or... choose what you like, but, again... rock'n'roll is not a contest. It's just rock'n'roll.

Thanks Jungleland! I'm still listening to Chickenfoot and so far I can't help compairing it to Van Hagar. Although the band sounds great! Chad Smith's outstanding rock drumming is a pleasant surprise for me. The best thing about Van Hagar was Eddie! Nuff said!

I can feel the excitement over the VH related news this week...damn, it feels good!

Played Chickenfoot and felt that something was missing (sound is great, but the soul is lacking), played DRL band and felt the same thing...guess what it was?

The Van Halen Brothers

So then I Played some of the VH 2008 shows on You Tube last night, and although Dave's voice is pretty rough, the missing ingredient to all of this is EDDIE VAN HALEN (and Alex to be fair)

There are 1,000,000 producers in the world who can get 45 minutes out of Dave that sounds good. It'll take some time (and some money)..not like in the old days where he could belt out a song in one take and it's magic... (hell, Steven Tyler records each syllable separately..no joke - spending a full month on lead vocals and using a coach - which Dave does - is not unusual anymore.) If they are dedicated to perfection they will put in the time + energy.

The tour was not really a fair way to judge vocally what DLR + VH can do on record. They did 20+ year old songs in the original key for christsakes!

What 1,000,000 producers CAN'T do is create the organtic charm and appeal of Eddie Van Halen + David Lee Roth. You can't capture this in a jar and sell it on ebay. Chickenfoot is proof of that (good playing, great guys, but little charm)

Also, put Ed against Vai and Satriani. There is no contest. Vai may be the best player, but he does not have the hooks. Satch has no hooks on the Chicknfoot record. He plays chords and some wah but does not create anything special (a shame). Can you recall one riff or solo from this record?

My only fear is the VH will try to put out a CD that sounds exactly like VH1 meets 1984 and it will be The Ruttles/ Spinal Tap. Ed has his "gold mine" of songs + riffs. Let's hope they are not parody of his past brilliance.
