Chickenfoot: ‘The Tonight Show’ Performance
Monday, 8 June 2009
CHICKENFOOT — the new rock supergroup comprised of drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), bassist Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen), guitarist Joe Satriani and vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen) — performed the song “Oh Yeah” on last night’s (Friday, June 5) edition of Conan O’Brien’s “The Tonight Show” on NBC. Watch the performance below.

Loved Chad’s wig and the “I am not Will Ferrel” shirt!
I wonder how many guitars have guests given Conan and what he does with them?

Chad Smith looks like the keebler elf….but they sound great.

The really rock!!! And Chad Smith’s T-Shirt (”I’m Not Will Ferrell”) and wig shows the’re funny and having fun.
The CD is amazing! Just read the user reviews in Amazon and in the iTunes music Store!
Oh Yeah!

Not my favorite song on the album, but it was great to see them live.
Love the new record. I got the LP yesterday and I’m planning on wearing it out.

Chad Smith is a monster and I am rooting for Michael. But seriously, this is not a good song. Satch is technically sound but his playing is almost robotic.
All five songs I’ve heard thus far are garbage, and the main offending culprit is Sammy. I appreciate his prolific quantitative efforts, but he hasn’t had an original idea since ‘91 or so. Maybe he should’ve taken more time to write lyrics. Spontaneous crap is still, umm, crap.

They do sound great, good for them I’m glad it went well!
June 8th, 2009 at 9:04 am
I thought they sounded better when I saw them live. Maybe it’s just TV - it never seems to translate well, plus they are a mile away from the audience.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:08 am
I thought that was a really weak performance of the weakest song on the album. Absolutely loving the album, though.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:13 am
I hope they are having fun at least - this stinks.
Sammy is the weak link - I liked him in VH but not before and not after.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:28 am
Chad is great, but Alex Van Halen is a lot better
June 8th, 2009 at 9:32 am
The “Tonight Show” performance was good, but not great due to the sound. The backgroud vocals we off. “Oh Yea” is my least favorite song on a very solid CD.
I wish they had played “Avenida Revolution”, that song is killer and really shows off how solid this band is. Mike Anthony’s Bass really shines and he and Chad make for a fantastic rhythm section.
Can’t wait to see it live!

Chickenfoot have no chemistry as a group. I think its mostly Sairiani’s fault. He looks like a guy who is always flinching. I can’t bear to watch him.
It was funny how Mike’s voice was so loud in backrounds. How does such a beefy dude squeak so high?
June 8th, 2009 at 9:33 am
C’mon Billy, please tell me you’re not the kind of guy that gets into heaven and then bitches about how cloudy it is.
I think the album is amazing. But I do agree with Karl. This is one of the weaker tracks so I wonder why they went with it for a national audience.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:42 am
^ They should have gone with Future In The Past. If they’d have exposed that one to a national audience everyone would be talking about Chickenfoot now.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:53 am
I agree with many fans that “Oh Yeah” is the weakest track on Chickenfoot’s album. Why they chose that song as the first single, I’ll never know. It’s an decent rocker, but is the most generic and least impressive song on the album. The rest of the album is much better - really strong and diverse.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:54 am
Sorry, I seen this last week and was not impressed at all. Pretty weak tune. This does not take care of my VH jones…
June 8th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Kayser, what is heavenly about four white guys playing mediocre blues rock? If that’s your bag, enjoy it, you have tons of options.
June 8th, 2009 at 11:20 am
Karl your right dude I think Future In the Past should have been the song to do!!! It’s the best song on the record!!!
June 8th, 2009 at 11:52 am
funny shirt Chad Smith.. your a cool sport!!!
cool for Joe to give him that guitar too!!
Trippy bass Mike!
June 8th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
Ugh, someone needs to tell Sammy to his face “love a lot of your stuff but oh yeah is oh crap”
They should have done either “Get It Up” or “Down The Drain”
Chickenfoot would have a better chance of getting younger listeners with those songs. As they sound more dirty and rocking.
Rather than “Oh Yeah” which sounds like an outtake from any 80’s Def Leppard record. Based on all the barhopping I’ve done, the less Leppard, the better.
June 8th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
I didn’t see, but will go on youtube and check it out tonite, my feeling over all about this project is “it cool” but don’t see it being more than 2 albums worth. I don’t think this “supergroup” will last. In a few years, VH will be on the road agian, RHCP will be too and Joe S. will being doing his own shit and Sammy will go back to cabo to do his normal gig and so will Mike. Just a shame Mike isn’t in VH any more or Sammy, The best Tour ever would to have Sammy and Dave go on the road with the orignal Van halen and spilt 2 set list up of both era. NOW THAT WOULD ROCK!!! will we ever see it.. Who knows.
June 8th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
No, this will not take care of my VH jones, either. But it wasn’t supposed to. Metallica’s last album didn’t take care of my VH jones either. Chickenfoot is an original band and are jammin a new vibe for all of us to enjoy. Don’t compare it, enjoy it for what it is. Something new.
June 8th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
Karl - Agreed. Future in the Past is my front runner for best track on the record at this point. That would have blown people away. Plus it’s the only track Sam plays guitar on which adds a little more depth.
June 8th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
I thought the performance was as good as you can get, as far as a one off t.v. performance goes. Song? Not the strongest song on the album, that’s for sure.
June 8th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
Funny, I like oh yeah, the album is solid, good stuff. Give it a few listens, its rockin!!!
June 8th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
I thought the performance went fine.
“Oh Yeah” is not my favorite song on the album but it was probably played because it was the first single released off the album.
The main thing is that it gave CF a national stage and will even further create buzz for the album.
June 8th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
Saw it FACT! Sam’s the weak link!! Chad & Mike make this band. Satch is stiff and robotic, hasn’t got the nasty, dirty, blues growl King Edward has!!! Back to teaching Satch man, leave the real thing to King Edward Van Halen, Jimmy Page & Jimi Hendrix!!!

I am Looking to do “A Night At The Roxbury Part 2″
I am a huge R.H.C.P fan and S.H. fan. Needless to
say VH Fan.
I think this could be cool.
My idea is to get Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Chickenfoot) together with Will Ferrell. (SNL alumni,
and urrent TBS Star) to play as each star while they
chronicle their both paths to stardom.

Did you all catch VH performance on Conan?, or that live DVD from the ‘re-hash and junior’tour?
Oh thats right there wasnt one was there, but hey that porno’s rockin…………………….
June 9th, 2009 at 10:39 am
I loved the wig, but the song just wasn’t for me. It’s cool that some people are into it though. Whatever floats your rock boat.
June 9th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
THE SOUND WAS TERRIBLE! Same cheezy Sammy lyrics. Good band though.
June 9th, 2009 at 2:57 pm
Didn’t like the song. It was a little weak. Even the guitar parts were weak. I hope they have better stuff than this. Mad Anthony didn’t seem to put much effort in either.

I am sick to death of reading bad rewiews on Chickenfoot. They did not reinvent Rock music. It may not be something that has never been done before. BUT, if you like good old fashion Rock ‘N’ Roll it is a great CD. If you do not like Sammy Hagar then you wouldn’t like this band or cd. Did you look to see that he was the Lead singer? And Sach is going to do something different that was the whole reason he wanted to be in a Rock Band. I swear people need to think and do alittle research before the review a cd. Review it for what it is and it stands up.

Every time I read a post on here comparing it to Van Halen, I laugh so hard!
When I read how people don’t like Sammy’s lyrics, I laugh really hard!
When I read that Joe is robotic and stiff, I laugh really hard!
So since ALL OF YOU are the best thing going, that means song writers, guitar players, bass players, and drummers, where’s your band, your hit single, and your millions of fans?
That’s all I want to know seriously?
Where are YOU?
Comparing Chickenfoot to Van Halen is so funny that I’m speechless!
There is no comparison. Chickenfoot is doing something, Van Halen is not!
When that band we used to call Van Halen ACTUALLY does something MUSICALLY, then start comparing.
Even then there still will be no reason to do so.
Enjoy it for what it’s worth, enjoy Mike and Sammy making BETTER music than what’s out there now.

I was happy to see them perform on the show. I wish , they would have done My Kind of Girl, I really think that song flows well. Oh Yeah, is O.K. Overall I really like the album. You got to give Sam credit, maybe his lyrics need some work, but the man can sing! Who else in his age bracket can sing like that?
