Keep em comin!

Now THAT is what I’m talking about. Get it up is more of what I’d like to hear from Chickenfoot.
That sounds more like a single to me than Oh Yeah. It’s songs like this which gives me hope the second album will be awesome. Usually with first albums it’s trial and error. A band takes from it what worked and didnt.
Hopefully Chickenfoot knows this works and have more of it,

I have to tell you, I’m a big Sammy fan… but for some reason I just kind of feel like Sammy is the weak link in this whole Chickenfoot venture. I feel bad saying it, but I don’t think the lyrics are all that great - from what I’ve heard. Kind of reminds me of the horrible VH ‘Up for Breakfast’ disaster.

Guys, I have the CD and it’s amazing, believe me…

Fred, I understand where you’re coming from. And I dont disagree with you at all.
Ideally Sammy would sing, and someone else would write the lyrics. But that ain’t happening.
But let’s be honest here, most straight ahead rock and roll has crappy lyrics.
For example, anything by Aerosmith (Sweet Emotion, Back In The Saddle) AC/DC (Back In Black) The Stooges ( I Wanna Be Your Dog, Search and Destroy) Jerry Lee Lewis (Whole Lotta Shakin’) Little Richard (Good Golly Miss Molly)
But the lyrical inepititude doesn’t take away the fact all those songs listed are classics. The mistake I think a lot of people, critics included make is listening to straight rock in a singer-songwriter context.
If I want deep, soul searching artistry from a rock band
I listen to Radiohead, or Soundgarden. But I listen to bands like Van Halen, The Stooges, or Motorhead to f–kin’ rock.
The bottom line is does the musicianship redeem the lyrical fallacies of the song? Does it make you want to go out, get drunk, kick some ass and get laid?
If it does then mission accomplished. When it doesnt, EX:(Oh Yeah) Then yes, maybe Chickenfoot needs to step back and reassess. But so far most of what I’ve heard from Chickenfoot has been good, no bs rock and roll. The musicianship is great.
Bottom line, I have no hesitation in laying my hard earned dollar to see these guys live.

From the first time I heard it, this was the best song-radio friendly too, if any stations will play some good rock again.
On a side note, out driving on a warm sunny Saturday afternoon, FEEL YOUR LOVE TONITE came on the radio and the world was perfect for about 4 minutes or so!

It never ceases to amaze and humour me how the Ed and Dave clones take the moral high ground on the apparent weak lyrics of Hagar.
You fuckin idiots, its Van halen, its rock music, you take the same angle with ACDC, Led Zep, The Who, Aerosmith and their similar concepts in songs? ‘Runaway Train, whole lotta love, you better you bet, love in an elevator?
Yeah, and you rip Sam for his lyrics, but you dont tell the whole story do you?
How bout dreams, right now, mine all mine, feelin and thats a start in a career lasting over 3 decades.
And gee none of these sam detractos ever talk about Dave’s lyrics do they?
Shes my machine, shy boy , yankee rose, just a gigalo, oh wait that was a cover wasnt it…………..

When CF played this song live in mass it blew the roof off the middle east, And we were in the basement. This track frikin ROCCCCCKKKKKEEEEEED. YEAH!!!!
May 31st, 2009 at 2:03 am
lyrics have never been sammy strong point
dave wrote way better stuff
the fact is he is a better singer on record and live
and i look at it like blues or improv or the chillis
its not the lyrics we are listening to the music for anyway
as for roth nailing the lyrics on the record
that is what make classic halen as good as
black sab or zeppelin in their prime.
this is good kick ass rock and roll
finally!
May 31st, 2009 at 2:05 am
did anyone see them live yet?
i hope this band makes more records
and we have seen the last of sammy and wabos for now.
this is damn good real hard rock music.
the wabo thing was gettin old.

What an explosive song! Sounds awesome.
Dannyboy, totally know where you’re coming from. Had “Balance” playing in my car yesterday, nothing better than listening to Amsterdam while speeding along the highway, son beating down on you with the windows down! Van Halen is the best for summer, and hopefully Chickenfoot will be too.

Can I say something and I think that I’m speaking for most real Van Halen fans.
The last couple of days I see a lot of comments from Hagar/Cf-fans and you guys are getting more frustrated and seem insecure. And then you come with all the nasty comments and insults and EVH-bashing.
There is 3 things that I want to make clear:
1. Most CLASSIC VAN HALEN (and we all know what I’m talking about; it’s the real thing, kick ass rnr, 6 masterpieces, EVH+DLR) -fans have nothing against Sammy. We just don’t like his music and/or voice! That’s all! So Van Hagar is something completely different then Van Halen to us. It’s just a different band and it is; they sounded different and we don’t like it. Not because Sam took Roth’s job. No, we just don’t like it. It’s not rocket science…
2. It would be fine if Van Halen would release new music, but if not, then no problem, we can live with that.
3. This is the Van Halen News Desk and not the Chickenfart news desk. So we - the Van Halen fans - are entitled to leave our comments here. I think you cf-fans should better insult EVH on a CFND or something.
That’s all there is to it. Now don’t get al upset. I understand if you’re getting mixed feelings about CF already. To me (us) it sounds like nothing special, fake fun and it will be all over in 1 or 2 years. I understand if you want to force yourself liking this group. Go ahead and go have fun, no problem.
We’re having fun too.

I have been the biggest critic of these guys but this tune sounds great.
May 31st, 2009 at 10:28 am
I will definitely be driving the new Corvette 150mph+ to this asskickin’ song!!! For you all trying to rip on Hagar, remember he is still sings great and he is 61 years old people! These four great musicians should have done this 10 years ago. I have seen them all separately and now I cannot wait to see them all together live.
May 31st, 2009 at 11:35 am
Erick, not all of us chickenfoot fans insult EVH!!! Some of us worship the first six albums and some of us are open minded to other versions of VH!!! Some of us are hoping EVH puts out at least one more album with Diamond Dave!!! Some of us welcome Chickenfoot even if it lasts for one album or two!!! Do you know why? Because today’s rock music is lame and some of us would rather listen to a couple of veteran rockers get together and jam!!! Nothing more - nothing less!!! Some of us don’t waste time and get mad about this, we just want to throw down and party to kick ass, good time rock n roll!!!
May 31st, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Erick, I’m a ‘real’ Van Halen fan. You do not speak for me.
May 31st, 2009 at 1:06 pm
SCAR: Maybe you are open-minded but you have bad taste.
May 31st, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Fanboy thanks coming from you that means absolutely nothing!!!
May 31st, 2009 at 3:07 pm
it may come to a surprise to a certain group in here that dave roth is not the center of the van halen universe and i will take chickenfoot over ANYTHING roth has done outside van halen.all van halen has to do to have some real news on here is hit the record button but dont hold your breath.i may also come as a surprise that a band is made up by more then just the singer.
May 31st, 2009 at 3:11 pm
Scar, I am absolutely 100% with you on this!!!!! I too am a Classic first 6 VH Disciple, but I also love all 3 incarnations of the band as well as Chickenfoot. Know why????…….because any good rockin’ music that is remotely in the same vein as VH is great in my books!! Hell, I know they ain’t the masters, or the architect’s of the party music……that title rightfully goes to VanHalen, but man ‘o’ man, it feels great to have some “good old fun lovin’ party, get drunk, sit on the patio music” to listen to again. It is either this or Green Day……..I pick this, hands down!!
May 31st, 2009 at 3:24 pm
it would be interesting to see how many people like all 4 eras of the band or 3 on record, only like roth, only like hagar and like both hagar and roth like me.
i would assume most people like hagar and roth and are not to found of vh3 and as we have yet to hear vh4 on record…
May 31st, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Erick - Please don’t propose to speak for “most” CVH fans because it’s clear you don’t. You speak only for those CVH fans who don’t like the Hagar era music.
A CVH fan is anyone that likes CVH, regardless of how you feel about the Hagar era. Or else a CVH fan is someone who PREFERS the Roth era to the Hagar era. Being a CVH fan does not mean you don’t like the Hagar era at all or don’t like his music or his voice as you say. It is possible to like both. Besides, I think most people that prefer Roth era VH would concede Sammy has the better voice.

Erick,
The best part of you ran down the crack of your moms ass!
You don’t speak for none of the real Van Halen fans period. There is no doubt on here about Chickenfoot from any of us.
Your problem and I’ve challenged you before, is that you think there is only 1 Van Halen and your sadly wrong!
There has been 3 versions and 2 out of 3 is pretty good.
1978-1984 was the best time for music with these guys!
1985-1996 was even better because they grew as musicians and writers.
1996 until now has been a waste of time, a waste of words, and a waste of the greatest band to plug in and play.
We bash Eddie because he has become a joke of a musician period. You know it and so does everybody else on here.
His health and marriage failed because he made it fail. His singers leave or get fired because he can’t work with them due to drinking and drugging. It’s a band remember?
Why does almost every musician have to do drugs and drink to death?
Life is so much better being alive and sober and doing it every so often.
Those 6 albums you speak of, 5 were great and 1 was crap.
The 4 with Sammy were great and so was the live album.
Van Halen is done Erick and the sooner you get it, the sooner you can move on.
Sammy made this band grow and made Eddie better. If Dave was so great, sing a Sammy song one time. Just once!
Sammy did it and we the fans loved it pure and simple. It wasn’t Dave, but at least Sammy TRIED, unlike Dave ever will.
Sammy was and is a part of Van Halen FOREVER PERIOD!

Jeremy: “Those 6 albums you speak of, 5 were great and 1 was crap.”
Which one was crap?

I saw Chickenfoot this past Friday in Philly. Let me tell you honestly…I wasn’t even LISTENING to the lyrics. The show was PHENOMENAL. Satch kicked @ss, Mike was outstanding, Sammy was more on then I’ve seen him (no autographs or any of that nonsense), and Chad Smith was HYSTERICAL. The music ROCKED. I’ve never seen Satch live before, and he more than delivered. Amazing, mind blowing player. Mike sounds better than ever (especially playing bass…he really stretches out and shows he’s got chops with Chickenfoot). AND…great to see these guys play in a small venue. Can’t wait to see them again in the fall!!!

Hey, after about 11 years, the Sammy era IS considered “Classic VH” now. That has to say something about Sammy’s contribution. I still get jacked when I hear some of it on the radio…….it is as classic as the Dave era in my books.
June 1st, 2009 at 10:00 am
I saw them live last Friday. They brought the house down! By far one of the best rock & roll shows I’ve seen in a LONG time. Chad Smith is f-ing INSANE!
