From Destructoid.com:

Although it’s not been officially announced, we’ve heard of this game called Guitar Hero Van Halen. We can’t be sure it exists, but rumors, retail listings, and German ratings boards seem to indicate that it does. As do the handful of rumored achievements for the Xbox 360 version of the game that Destructoid exclusively got its hands on today.

If they are legitimate (and we have every reason to believe they are), they reveal quite a bit about a game which we previously only knew the name of. Three Van Halen tracks that will be playable are mentioned by name — “Little Guitars,” “Cathedral,” “Spanish Fly,” and the instrumental guitar-gymnastics classic “Eruption.” Real-world locations like West Hollywood, Dallas, London, The Netherlands, Los Angeles, and Rome are also revealed.

In terms of features, it appears the game will be full-band experience, as expected. “Expert+” mode on drums will be making a comeback from Guitar Hero Metallica, as well. One Achievement (”Ouch!”) hints at what we believe could be a new option in the game’s create-a-character, custom tattoos. And finally, Eddie Van Halen’s famous “Frankenstein” guitar (picture above) will be unlockable.

The full list of achievements (minus the secret achievements) can be found after the jump. It’s interesting to note the names of them, which could hint at other playable in-game tracks (i.e. “Running With the Devil,” “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”). Feel free to speculate away.

We contacted Activision to verify the validity of the achievements and game details, but were told they “don’t comment on rumor and speculation.”

  1. Rodney says:

I bet this game only has DLR tunes in it. If this is the case then once again Ed will show his true colors. I myself will probably buy this for my son. Without Van Hagar songs the game will be incomplete. However it would be cool to get somethin new from VH these days.

  2. Skutch says:

Whatever Rodney, my very young apprentice. Don’t you mean, without Hagar songs, the game is MORE ROCKING? Why would people want to play Dreams on Guitar Hero?

  3. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

Maybe I’m getting old but anything guitar hero orientated does NOT excite me at all.

  4. Karl says:

Ladies and Gentlemen, rock and roll has left the building…

  5. Luckyrabbit says:

I don’t get guitar hero at all, especially being a guitarist myself. I understand the marketing behind it, however it seems absurd to spend so much time playing a game simulating guitar playing, when the real thing is so much more fun. And the chicks dig it, though maybe all the girls are more impressed with Guitar Hero chops now, if so I give up.

  6. stew says:

Or how’bout Why can’t this be love or Can’t stop lovin’ you .Lame gutiar Hero songs

  7. stew says:

Hey Rodney without Van Hagar songs this Game is complete . Long live Dave !!!!

  8. Rodney says:

I will most likley buy the game but it will be a dissapointment if there is not an assortment of songs from all 3 gens of VH.

  9. Kayser Sozay says:

This info suggests that there will be no mention of Hagar era VH anywhere. Which is a shame because some of Ed’s best work was from that era. But that’s Eddie for you.

Seriously, why in the hell would you not want to provide as much VH content as possible on a game? Whether you like Hagar era or not, the game will lose its luster much quicker with so much less content. The Hagar haters can just not do the Hagar era songs but most fans would appreciate more content in a game I’m guessing.

I’m also guessing there will be no mention of Michael Anthony. Once again, zero regard for VH fans and once again, Eddie cuts off his nose to spite his face. It’s getting so predictable it’s truly sad.

  10. jetsjam says:

Personally, for my family and i, this game has had a big influence. It has inspired my 4 and 7 year old nephews, plus their 30something dad to pick up real guitars for the first time! And I’m sure they’re enjoying learning real guitar more than playing the game.

And for the guitarist’s that don’t “get” the game, it’s really more a game about rhythmic patterns, than actually emulating a guitar. Once you’ve played it enough you’ll realize it’s actually easier to play some riffs on a real guitar for certain songs. It’s the best video game to come along since Diablo.

  11. carlin says:

Everyone is missing the big picture:It will bring van halen to a new generation one that would really appreciate the sweet riffs that ed has laid down no matter who was singing

  12. Chickenfloo says:

    Possible guitar hero tunes:

    Human Beings
    Good enough
    Finish what ya started
    Poundcake
    Cabo Wabo
    Mine all mine
    Without you
    After shock
    Pleasure dome
    Baluchiterium

That would be 2nd part (Non DLR era tunes)

  13. walteR says:

    Eddie Van Halen,
Please stop marketing the band that you, Alex, Michael Anthony, & DLR fought so hard to create. Yeah, it’s cool to see your sneakers available, and maybe some effects too.. But dude,, gather Wolfie from daycare & Dave from the topless club, & do something… As, Sammy & Mike are making you look like ‘fools’…(Wasn’t that a Dave era song ??)

  14. Gee Lopz says:

I don´t wanna buy this game…But i´m happy to know there is NO ONE Van Hagar tune on this!!

Van Halen = Rock / Van Hagar = Pop (Keyboards + love songs)

Sorry Sammy, you aren´t rock enough to this…

Hey Rodney, you are right! This is a game for BOYS, GUYS!!

If someday this company release a Sammy Hagar “guitar hero”, you can buy for your daughther or another little girl… ;)

    Hail to Mighty Van Halen!!

  15. Aftershock says:

I might have missed it, but anybody know when Guitar Hero: Joe Satriani is going to be released?

    Karl? Rodney? Other anti-Eddie fanbois?

What are the chances “Me Wise Magic” and the other “Best of Both Worlds” new songs will be on here? :-)

Speaking of rampant self-marketing and promotion, I’d be shocked if Chickenfoot doesn’t figure out a way to somehow slip a video of themselves acting like fools onto the VH Guitar Hero game.

  16. pushtoshove says:

Like I said a couple of posts ago…You can’t say anything about Ed that might even be construed as an attack without his internet security force coming to the rescue. Unlike a dictatorship - ( Van Halen ) people in America have a right to their opinion. But what do i know ? I like all incarnations of Van Halen and Sammy Hagar. As far as self promotion both bands have a fair share of it.
And in case anyone has forgotten - When You Snooze You Lose.

  17. brian says:

I played Rock band with my 40 year old brother in law and while he LOVES it, I didn’t really get into it that much, I’m in my 30’s.

But I hear that alot of kids are being exposed to REAL rock because of these video games. God knows there’s nothing resembling real rock on the radio these days.

So I’m gonna try out this game maybe I’ll like it, maybe it’ll leave me cold I don’t know.
BUT if it helps alert kids to what REAL rock music is about, that’s ALL to the good.

I played Gimme Shelter and a Nirvana song on Rock band and it felt like I was painting by numbers.
No real feel to it. But that’s maybe just me.
I’ll give GH VH a try.

  18. Jrocks says:

Hey Kazer, there will be alot of VH content and the more space available the more you would have to fill it with Dave content (for the above mentioned reasons…more rockin’ and fun). So we are not looking at a lack of VH content, we are looking at a lack of Van Hagar content, which is a good thing.

  19. Skutch says:

Rodney, do you seriously think VH3 songs should be on this? Seriously? You GO GIRL!!

  20. phil says:

    very cool

  21. Bran Halen says:

I have never played Guitar Hero before so I have no idea what the titles followed by; 5GP, 10GP and so on mean. I’ll find out though as I am sure I will get the VH version when it comes out.
I’m sure that it will be fun if there are only Dave era songs on it, but it would be cool for me at least to play some Sammy era stuff like; 5150, Summer Nights, Cabo Wabo and Poundcake at least. If it’s Ed’s music, I wana play it even if they throw in “Beat It” for the solo!

  22. Karl says:

Aftershock: Anti Eddie? You need to read my posts again. You need to read what’s actually written, not what you wish was written…

  23. Karl says:

Oh, and for all those saying “Well at least a new generation will be exposed to ‘real’ rock music, blah, blah…” No. A generation is going to think that ‘real’ rock music is nothing but the disposable background musak to a video game.

As I said, Ladies and Gentlemen, rock and roll has left the building…

  24. SCAR says:

Look the game is for fun - that’s it, just to have fun! It’s a great way to expose great tunes to a new bunch of kids who without this game, may never experience the awesome catalog of the mighty VH! Today’s rock music sucks (too bad all you nickelback geeks) hopefully this exposure will inspire kids to say “Wow, who are these guys”? “We want more”!!! Maybe games like this will be a great influence for the future of mind blowing, in your face, down and dirty ass kickin rock n roll!!! C’mon everybody wants some!!!!

  25. Rodney says:

Skutch!! I never said songs in the plural sense.
I included cherone cause I didnt want to leave his fans out LOL I still think Without You was a cool tune. Year to the day was pretty bad ass on guitar too.

  26. Rodney says:

Everyone seems to have selective memory of the mighty VH.
Omit the Van Hagar, Cherone years….Hard to remember them when ya have alzheimers. Maybe they will have a rehab achievement….how about dissappear from sight for 10 years achievement. How about skip yer own hall of fame induction acheievement. Mehhhh!!! One member has prevented this band from creating new music. One member will also prevent the younger generation from hearing the band’s history.

  27. diamond dee says:

Some of you are missing the point. It is a game honoring the worlds greated band. Embrace it, if you don’t like playing a game then don’t play it, simple. It’s not a real guitar, drums, or bass ITS A GAME.

  28. Aftershock says:

Sorry, Karl. Your inclusion was unfair. Mainly I just wanted to see if I could type “fanbois” into a post without laughing.

    I couldn’t.

  29. Bran Halen says:

I looked at pictures of the Guitar Hero guitar/controller and saw the 5 buttons for what I guess would be “fretting” notes and chords. Does anyone think that they may add another button or two to the VH controller around the 12th fret area for tapping?

Anyway, I posted list night that I will most likley get this game when it comes out and still will. It may be fun for a little while but its hard to belive that the game could be more fun than coping Eddies licks for real with my crappy home made Kramer 5150.

  30. JBH says:

So, will this come with a keyboard so you can actually play the songs as they were played on the albums?????

  31. Nick says:

    SCAR,

I agree. Nickelback is one of the worst “rock” bands that I’ve ever heard. The F-ing SUCK!

  32. Erick says:

Van Hagar is similar to Nickelback. Same type of singing.

  33. theREALchris says:

Erick, there’s something wrong with your ears, man.

  34. DAR says:

JBH doesn’t know what he’s talking about. The first albums had none to minimal keyboards. That’s like saying the Metallica version needs a PRO tools download patch.

  35. MXR5150 says:

5 Star songs on expert? Not going to be easy.
