Oh Yeah! It’s Sooooo nice to see this people warming up the machine! It’s so sad i’m so far away to see them live…
April 29th, 2009 at 5:15 am
Keep that chicken foot news coming!!!
Cheers to new music!
April 29th, 2009 at 6:14 am
They forgot the ouija board.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:27 am
So happy about this. I wish everybody was mature enough just to be happy to have new music from former Van Halen members and stop the “Dave or Sammy” sillyness or the “This is not a Chickenfoot news site (see the title at the top of this site, folks)”
Now we have 2 new bands with great musicians!
Cheers!
April 29th, 2009 at 7:32 am
a real band
April 29th, 2009 at 7:59 am
I must say that this is all great that Mike is getting some full time work again since Sammy never let Mike take Mona’s place in the Waboritas… hmmm.
But I can’t wait to see the mighty VH and their pics from the studio about 6 weeks or so from now. If Sammy can get past all his “hang ups” maybe Chickenfoot can open for VH somewhere down the road. Now that would be a ticket to get!!
April 29th, 2009 at 8:26 am
VHJAMES68,
That would be Ed that would have the hangups about touring together. I would bet Sam would have no problem with it.
I would agree that would be an awesome ticket.
April 29th, 2009 at 9:41 am
I’ll say one thing though, the Chickenfoot boys are promoting the HELL out of this project!! I’m digging the rides in Sammy’s garage, or wherever that is, too! Nice pics!!
April 29th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Hey VHJAMES68, She’s no Mad Mike, but you got to give Mona from the Waboritas her props! She can sing and play pretty damn good!!! I think it would be great for us fans to get a dream tour like that, but I agree with what Rodney said, it would be EVH with his Sammy and Mike issues that would prevent it from ever happening!!!! Party on dudes!!!
April 29th, 2009 at 9:59 am
SCAR and Rodney,
Well if you believe everything that comes out of Sammy’s mouth I guess you could see it that way. But I don’t and I see how he treats his good friend Mike and it’s easy to see who uses people and who doesn’t. Look at Sam’s history with all of his music projects and you see a lifelong trend: Control it or leave it! I feel sorry for his solo band that has 2 or 3 years of work and then Sam’s on to another project. I would not live like that and I would not ask anyone to do that! But that’s just me
April 29th, 2009 at 10:19 am
Hey VHJAMES68, Maybe Mike wasn’t interested in playing with the Waboritas. Maybe he is just a fan and a friend of Mona and the rest of the Waboritas! Maybe Sammy did offer him the job at one time and he declined? Maybe he was happy playing with Sammy and their side projects? He doesn’t seem bitter about it. Mike has got a lot of class he even gave EVH some love at the Hall of Fame ceremony!!!! A true class act!!!!
April 29th, 2009 at 11:18 am
VHJAMES68
right… or you could say that it was incredibly cool and generous of sammy to keep both mike and mona around and involved without making either one feel like second fiddle. doesn’t really sound controlling to me, sounds like a good friend.
i guess what he should have done is kicked mona out of the band, removed her pictures from the waboritas albums and pretend like she never existed.
April 29th, 2009 at 11:59 am
very cool
April 29th, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Got to agree with Rodney: The Other Half / Chickenfoot would open for VH but Ed and Al would never have it.
Ed booted as he put it “Sauce Sobalowski” for working with the “Little Red Worm”. For years I blamed Roth and his ego for the CVH breakup. Then it happens to Sam and Mike, hmmmm!
A tour together would be amazing but the ego’s won’t let it happen.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:11 pm
Does VH still exist? Folks, that tour was done for money. They didn’t do interviews, you don’t think Dave would have loved to have been on the cover of Rolling Stone, no live album, dvd, etc. One of the greatest bands of all time has become a joke. All I ever hear is Eddie has tons of new music he’s working on. People may not like Sam, but at least he puts new music out.
April 29th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
I wish they’d stop with the “trying to be cool” act - it’s creepy. Enough with the hand signs and play the music.
April 29th, 2009 at 3:43 pm
We can argue the VH/Chickenfoot debate all day but when it boils right down to it it’s about how you feel treated as a fan.
Can any of you honestly say that VH has treated and will treat you in the future better than Sammy, Mikey, and Chickenfoot will?
I think even Roth wants to treat the fans to something but the brothers could give a shit less.
April 29th, 2009 at 4:09 pm
agreed. Roth is sitting on his hands right now because the brothers have him on a gag order. I’m sure it drives him nuts. I wouldn’t be surprises if the brothers are pissed because he included pictures of Mike in his most recent photo collection… which was cool by the way.
April 29th, 2009 at 5:14 pm
ok , heres what i think the bottom-line for the chickenfoot/sammy haters is all about :
- van halen has nothing to prove musically / commercially and they will never be surpassed - BUT - they lost all interst in nnovation and busy-activity abotu 1997 . at that point they became hermits.
- ed and al basically , since about 1999 , have lived on an enviable allowance based on interest from thier heyday and they could give a sh*t or not about public opinion. but when the manager/handler says they have advanced too much to makke retirement sustainable they eat crow and recruit a former singer and to a money-grab tour ( ‘04 w/sammy and ‘07 w/ dave ) and then happily go back to obscurity. ed and al would just as soon jam together at 5150 once or twice a year ( thnxgving and chrstmas ) and never be heard from again.
- sammy on the other hand ( and dave as well- but dave is on a tight leash to saty in the band ) is too gregarious and outgoing. sammy loves to be busy. sammy doesnt know a stranger , he loves to do what he feels like doing and has an enviable-whimsical life.
- what the sammy haters cant stand is that sammy has been BETTER at being in touch with fans than van halen has been in decades. sammy is just available , freindly and active. the sammy-haters cant stand it that sam is just happier and busier the ed/al. they hate that he is successful and busy. they hate that ed could happily never appear in public again.
- chickenfoot is NOT ” over-hyped ” by any strecthed. its just that VH fans are USED TP nothing-to-promote tha they hate promotion of any kind.
so chickenfoot is on guitar world ? big deal , sam and joe have been on it a dozne times , if ed wanted he’d be on guitar world. so VHND-DOT-COM covers chickenfoot ? so what ? ed could get coverage- in fact he DOES , just for shoes and guitars etc. so chickenfoot has a ” facebook/myspace” page ? so what ? ed could too .
but ed won’t.
- what the haters hate is that samis better at this than the halens.
could a -MOTIVATED- van halen blow chickenfoot outof the water? sure.
…but don’t hold your breath.
April 29th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Jor-L5150….I couldn’t have said it better…But I am sure someone will take the bait and act to Defend a certain guitarist..some one dangling a carrot in front of their fans. I personally am happy for Ed and Al…And I am Happy for Mike And Sammy…But In my humble opinion I believe it is Rude to promise Anyone Anything and Consistently Not Deliver. There once was a story about this behavior and it was called ” The Boy Who Cried Wolf “. And Before anyone attacks me on this they need to understand- I am happy with what has been done and wish Ed and Al the best of luck no matter What they do. But for god’s sake quit making yourself look bad Ed and Al.If you are gonna record once every ten years then say so.If somehow someone on this site feels they should attack me for using common sense You should know that I smile and laugh when you do so because The truth is the truth no matter how much you say things like ” Quit Whining” and ” Your opinion is wrong “. The facts- Al said they would never play with Roth again - Ed said for years that Roth was an Egotistical Jackass and he just said recently that the ‘media’ Hyped the feud between He and Roth and it was all blown out of proportion-Ed knocked Mike and Sammy for Having profit making endeavors outside Van Halen yet he is doing the Same ( Nothing wrong with that-I wanted to clarify that for those on this site who act like 3 year old’s Anytime anything is even perceived as being a slight against Ed-Show some self respect Ed doesn’t need you to defend him ) Ed has stated again and again since 1995 That there is new music on the horizon and that he will be playing music forever. He just never said that it would be for His Fans. The slickest way to lie is to tell the right amount of truth. VH Roth kicks Ass,VH Sammy Kicks Ass,VH Cherone Kicks Ass and Vh Wolf-Roth Kicks ass.Now you all can kiss mine.
April 29th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
ed and al need to take the gag order of DLR….the david lee roth i know and like is wild, crazy and says Fu#!#$ up things that are funny and obnoxious. the only problem i had with the last two reunion tours was it seemed that ed and al cut into sammy and dave being sammy and dave. they both have the gift of gab during live shows and bringing entertainment to the audience. it’s a shame to have that part of their personality taken away because the brothers don’t like it…
April 29th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Great Pics thanks VHND. These roadtest shows are gonna rock. Got Chickenfoot tixs? If you didnt, see ya in the fall.
April 29th, 2009 at 7:25 pm
Eddie has a “virtuoso” complex.
I have seen it in other musicians as well, especially other guitarists I have played with.
They think everybody else in the band is so far below their skill level they can be replaced and to hell with anybody who does not appreciate their own masterpieces.
This includes the fans as well.
April 29th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
Well said Jor-L5150!!!!
April 29th, 2009 at 9:04 pm
You know who a underrated guitarist is? Denny Lane.
April 29th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
Eddie Van Halen is Van Halen, as he goes so does the rest of the band. The music starts with Eddie and every member of the band is along for the ride, both Roth and Hagar era. He set the tone and direction for everything as the song writer and the real talent. Of course the real magic happened when the other members had significant input. When 1984 dropped it was obvious Eddie was heading in a different direction and wanted change. There were other areas he wanted to explore that he obviously felt could never be realized with DLR. Enter Sammy, who so many blame for the so called down fall of Van Halen. As Eddie goes so does the rest of the band, what else could Sammy have done with the music Eddie wrote for Dreams, Love Walks In or Why Can’t This Be Love? Eddie’s playing, style and sound changed from album to album during the Hagar era. Much more than it did during the DLR days. Ed and Sam at one point were best friends and their split had less to do with the music and more to do with personal issues. Except the supposed lyrics debate? Eddie and Dave were never very close, you rarely ever saw them together unless it was onstage. I don’t think they ever really got along or even liked each. That’s why you had the MTV incident and the very short lived reunion. Enter Gary who never stood a chance, difficult enough to pull of one lead singer change but a second? That combined with another Eddie style and sound change sent both Dave and Sammy fans for a loop. Obvious commercial disaster and that was that for Gary. Enter Sammy for a second time with 3 new tracks thrown together for Best of Both Worlds. A tour in which Sammy had to negotiate for Mikey to be part of the tour which included a pay cut. Not really the best way to start things off on a good vibe. That combined with Eddie’s severe drinking and personal problems put an end to that. No matter how much I respect Eddie he was a complete disaster for a long time before, during and after that tour. (When that pic came out with Eddie looking like he was in his 70’s with no teeth, I thought that was the end of Van Halen)There is now way to defend him on that tour, he couldn’t even play. Sam, Mike and even Alex must have been so embarassed to go out each night. Those who argue that one really need to go back and You Tube a few shows! He was terrible!!! That was it for Sammy on round two, I’m surprised he finished the tour with Eddie in that state. Somewhere after that Wolfgang learned how to play bass and Ed decided he wanted to play with his son. Who wouldn’t? Even if he wanted to call up Sammy, which I’m sure he would have rather done, it wasn’t going to happen. Sammy wouldn’t do it without Mikey. Eddie knew there was no way in hell that fans would accept another new guy so that left only one option. Welcome back Dave! I’m sure they have come to some type of agreement and have even decided they can tolerate each other now. Ed has always been about moving forward with his music and I can’t wait to see the shit he puts infront of Dave to work with. I’m not sure what this rant was all about except to say that it doesn’t really matter who you think is the better lead. The only thing that matters is what Ed decides next because that’s what you are going to have to live with as a Van Halen fan. It would be really interesting to ask Ed and get an honest answer to what era he prefers. I have a feeling his answer would be that they are all his babies and he is proud of everything he has done. I for one would agree with him!
April 30th, 2009 at 3:37 am
Well said Jor-L5150
And everybody has to have something clear: The fact that EVH is one of the best guitar players in the world and mede amazing music doesn’t make him the best person on earth, the most coherent or something like that. He is a person who makes mistakes like everyone of us..
April 30th, 2009 at 7:08 am
JLOR, You think about this way too much. None of us ‘hate’ Sammy, that such a harsh word thrown around here. we just don’t like his music. Why is that hard for people to understand. It has nothing to do the the Van Halen.
April 30th, 2009 at 8:19 am
I loved the ouiji board comment!

ES BUENO ESCUCHAR A SAMMY CON JOE SATRIANI JUNTOS.
LOS 3 TEMAS QUE ANDAN POR LA WEB SON BUENOS… DERREPENTE SE SIENTE COMO VAN HALEN, OTRAS VECES COMO RED HOT Y EN LOS PUNTEOS Y DETALLES SE ESCUCHA EL ESTILO Y FEELING DE SATRIANI…
DE TODAS MANERAS LOS BAJOS ME PARECEN ALGO PLANOS, INCLUSO MAS SIMPLES QUE LOS DE VAN HALEN…. A MICHAEL LE FALTA POWER Y FORMAS EN SUS BAJOS.
CUANDO ESCUCHAREMOS ALGO NUEVO DE VAN HALEN?
SUERTE

i dont think all critics ” hate ” sam , but there is a lot of that , and with chickenfoot being so visible and active the resentment and frustration some fans feel is manifesting as hostility toward VH fans who see VH as a ” mothership ” band/supergroup with peripheral spinoff bands.
vhndDOTcom is being perfectly consistant by covering chickenfoot , they covered dave-solo when gary was in , they covered sammy /wabo’s when gary was in and when dave came back - so now van halen is VH-markIV , and they HAVE been covered , and will continue to be covered if they do anything.
if DLR went to a 7-11 and ordered a slurrpy , and some fan got a picture of himself w/dave - VHND-dot-COM WOULD cover it.
if extreme is invited to open for VH it WILL be covered.
if ed orders sushi and someone gets a pic it WILL be covered.
if if sammy opens a new restaraunt it WILL be covered.
if MIKE opens a hot rod shop it WILL be covered.
this is what VHND-dot-COm DOES: it covers anything van halen AAAAANNDvan halen alumni are doing. always has, always will .

JUANE5150, Cuando se publica un nuevo Van Halen musica, sera un infierno de una las partes! En el interin hemos Chickenfoot a una fiesta!!! Larga vida a Van Halen y Chickenfoot!!! Parte de hermano!!!

VHJAMES68 - To say that Sammy has treated Mike badly may be one of the most ignorant things I’ve ever read on this site, and that’s saying something. You think it reflects poorly on Sam’s character that he didn’t have Mike in the Waboritas? What was he supposed to do? Mike stayed in Van Halen when Sam left and wasn’t available to participate in the Waboritas when they were formed. Thus, Mona got the job. I think it speaks well of his character that he was loyal to Mona and kept her in the band when Mike was booted from VH. I’m sure Mike understands that and obviously had no problem with it since Mike frequently got up and jammed at Wabo shows right alongside Mona. I’d say Sammy’s been a pretty good friend to Mike - from giving Ed the ultimatum before the 2004 tour “if Mike goes, I go” - to having Mike in Planet Us and now Chickenfoot. It’s obvious those two guys love each other so what’s really your issue?
April 30th, 2009 at 11:01 am
Just noticed in the photos the shot of Sammy with the slide guitar in his lap - does this mean Chickenfoot may be busting out “Bad Motor Scooter” in their shows? That would be cool.
April 30th, 2009 at 11:16 am
Its nice to see a photo where Sammy doesn’t look like he’s laughing at something that isn’t that funny.
April 30th, 2009 at 1:04 pm
Jor, well said. From what I’ve heard of CF, I’m just disappointed in the product. It isn’t because I’m comparing it to Van Halen, I’m just comparing it to anything I find interesting musically. I thought the same of Balance and VH3 too, just to show I’m not picking on Sammy. Some people like it CF and VH3 and that’s cool too. Crazy, but cool. LOL

It’s good to see family stick together.

What a joke. Sure chickenfoot has some members with talent. BUT, who do you think put Sammy and Mike on the map? VAN HALEN!! Eddies already said that after Wolf graduates and after the wedding in June that a tour is imminent. Lets see Chickenfoot TRY to sell out a venue the size of the ones Van Halen can EASILY sell out. No comparison. As far as new music, they are working on new songs NOW! Their NOT going to let information regarding their upcoming hits out to the public for someone else to record and steal. They are VERY smart business men. Perhaps thats why they make more $$ than ALL other rock bands. You want an interview with Van Halen? Cough up some MEGA dough. Otherwise, sit back and speculate, point fingers, etc. Van Halen doesn’t mind. Their laughing ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK! IF the planned tour includes Guns n Roses opening for Van Halen as talked about, I think it will be VERY difficult to find ANY VENUE large enough to hold the millions that are waiting to see them.
Van Halen doesn’t have to go on facebook etc. to try and win publicity. Van Halen IS publicity. They are the party. Those guys wallets are so thick they can tour/play when and IF they want to! P.S. I KNOW what I’m talking about!!!!
April 30th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
very well said craig…
April 30th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
Marcus u don’t know what your talking about, I DO. I was the one that put Van Halen on the map cuz I’m a Legend
April 30th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
His name IS Legend. He must be legit.
May 1st, 2009 at 2:19 pm
It would be great if Rolling Stone put them on the cover. I don’t think it will happen and I also have a feeling they will give the album 2 stars. Springsteen and Dylan get 5 stars for just being themselves.
May 2nd, 2009 at 12:32 am
FIRST OF ALL THE WABOS WERE FORMED IN 1997. A YEAR AFTER SAMMY WAS FIRED FROM VAN HALEN.
MIKE DID THE EDDIE VAN HALEN SOLO ALBUM, WAIT NO HE DIDN’T.
ALL SAMMY HAS DONE FOR MUSIC IS MAKE MUSIC. HAVING THE WABOS TOGETHER FOR OVER 10 YEARS SHOWS THAT SAMMY HAS RESPECT FOR HIS BAND MATES. HAVING MIKE COME AND JAM ONCE IN A WHILE SHOWS HOW MUCH HE APPRECIATES MIKE AND DID IT ON THE 2004 TOUR.
EDDIE WAS WITH DAVE FROM 78-84. 6 YEARS AS A SUCCESSFUL BAND.
EDDIE WAS WITH SAMMY FROM 85-96. 11 YEARS AS A SUCCESSFUL BAND.
1 #1 SINGLE WITH DAVE.
4 #1 ALBUMS WITH SAMMY
AND WHAT DO WE HAVE NOW FROM VAN HALEN? (CRICKETS CHIRPING)
WE AS FANS HAVE BEEN ROBBED SINCE EDDIE MADE THIS HIS BAND.
GOOD DECISIONS HERE FOLKS!
CHICKENFOOT IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND IT WILL BE GREAT. I RUN MICHAEL ANTHONY’S OFFICIAL MYSPACE PAGE AND IT’S ABOUT TIME MIKE GETS TO BE PART OF SOMETHING AGAIN HE HELPED MAKE AND THAT WAS VAN HALEN.
NOW IT’S CHICKENFOOT AND THANK GOD IT’S NOT VAN HALEN ANYMORE!
May 2nd, 2009 at 5:41 am
Jeremy,
I for one am happy for Mikey that he’s back in a band, jamming with his buddy Hagar and making music again. It was totally wrong the way Ed just dumped him from Van Halen and didn’t even let him be a part of the 07/08 Tour with Roth!!
BTW, that #1 VH single(Jump) would of went along with a #1 VH album(1984) but there just happen to be this little album out called Thriller at that time!
“Jeremy spoke in…claaaaass today.”
May 3rd, 2009 at 6:56 am
I,ve been a Van Halen fan since 1982 and the band came
along way and like all bands they had their glory as much
we want the old bands came back togather, like led Zep or
guns & roses and the beatles in th 70s but thats how it is
the members of any bands don,nt see the samething as the
saw them when they were “young”. so mikey keep rocking!!!
May 3rd, 2009 at 8:06 am
I love Vanhalen……..I really like what I have heard from Chickenfoot so far……..I now can have the best af “all worlds”, because, as a lover of music, I don’t have to foresake good listening, just because it wasn’t created by someone who knocked me off my chair 31 years ago.
Comon’ guys, I would love to hear new VanHalen, but it aint gonna happen any time soon. I am thrilled to pieces that I will have “something” close, to tide me over until the day I hopefully have the new VH album in my hands!! It sure beats the hell out of having to listen to any of the other crap that is out there presently!!!
May 4th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
LINE6GUY,
THRILLER WAS RELEASED IN 1982, AND 1984 WAS RELEASED IN 1983. YES I KNOW IT WAS THE FIRST OF THE YEAR, BUT IF IT WAS A GREAT ALBUM, IT WOULD’VE WENT #1.
PYROMANIA WAS A GREAT ALBUM TOO!
MY POINT IS THAT DAVE WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE A #1 ALBUM.
JUMP WAS JUST THE SONG AT THE RIGHT TIME AND THAT WAS HOW ALL MUSIC WAS IN 1983.
EXCEPT FOR METALLICA’S KILL EM’ ALL!
May 5th, 2009 at 1:21 am
Jeremy,
Wow you’re really down playing classic Van Halen and you sound like a DLR hater? I like both eras of Van Halen but personally I prefer the Roth era over Sammy.
Here are some album figures:
Van Halen…10? million
Van Halen II…5 million
Women and Children First…3 million
Fair Warning… 2 million
Diver Down…4 million
1984…10 million
5150…6 million
OU812…4 million
For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge…3 million
Right Here, Right Now ….2 million
Balance…3 million
VAN HALEN…34 million
Van Hagar…18 million
Hell even David Lee Roth’s solo career is more successful than Hagar’s!
Solo Platinum records:
David Lee Roth: 3
Sammy Hagar: 2
Sammy Hagar NEVER had an album go Platinum (not solo or in Montrose) before or after he was in Van Halen. Dave had 3 solo Platinum albums and 1 gold after he left Van Halen.
When Sammy joined VH, he had no platinum records, Dave had 6 multi-platinum with VH at the time. Without VH, the Cabo Wabo clown never has a Platinum record and dies out in the 80’s like Rick Springfield. Don’t be so quick to down play the Roth era man! Long live the mighty Van Halen!!
May 7th, 2009 at 8:14 am
Line6Guy is da man!!! I can’t believe you actually found all those figures for your argument!!! Good job man!!
“Jeremy spoke in claaaaaaass today”…….and was promptly told to shut up and sit down!!!!
