Chickenfoot Sell Out First Nine Concerts “In Record Time”

Monday, 27 April 2009

Before even releasing their self-titled debut on June 9th, new rock supergroup Chickenfoot have already sold out all nine road-test concerts they had planned for May. The quartet — which features former Van Halen members Sammy Hagar and Mike Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani — posted on their official site, “Beyond our expectations, the public on-sales for the nine road-test shows sold out all tickets in record time. The band was blown away by your response and can’t wait to take the show on the road!”

Because tickets for the shows are so scarce and in such high demand, the band has instituted an anti-scalping policy for the concerts, requiring each ticket owner to show ID at the door for each show. Demand for tix was so great, members of the group’s new fan club were even shut out. However, the band promises to hit the road once again, at bigger venues, in August and September during a major North American tour. “The boys are in rehearsal this week, and we’ll see you on the road!” they promise.

Also on the Chickenfoot site, the band has posted a introductory video, with Chad Smith poking fun at his resemblance to actor Will Ferrell by calling himself “Ricky Bobby” and making a couple of Talladega Nights jokes. We also learn Mike Anthony has both a really awesome kitchen and a shy parrot and that Joe Satriani feels more comfortable communicating with a Satriani puppet.

“We spent a lot of time together in the recording studio working long hours to make Chickenfoot live up to expectations,” Satriani recently said. “We really feel like we’ve mastered it and recorded a great album but now we’re especially excited to take the show on the road and see how the fans react to it live. I think we are really going to feed off of the fan’s energy. We’re really that type of band.”

The sold-out dates include:

May 14 - Seattle, WA @ El Corazon
May 15 - Vancouver, BC @ Commodore Ballroom
May 17 - San Francisco, CA @ The Fillmore
May 19 - West Hollywood, CA @ The Roxy Theatre
May 22 - Chicago, IL @ Park West
May 24 - Toronto, ON @ The Mod Club Theatre
May 26 - Cambridge, MA @ Middle East Upstairs
May 28 - New York, NY @ The Fillmore
May 29 - Philadelphia, PA @ TLA

    Dave:
    All pics, all songs
    Sammy:
    New pics, new songs

  2. Kayzer Sozay says:

Got my tix to see Chickenfoot in Seattle on May 14th and cannot wait. Excited to see what material other than the new album they bust out.

  3. VHJAMES68 says:

Given the size of the venues they are playing….anything less than selling out quickly would be considered a disaster. This should be a given with the names that are involved in the band. My big concern will be if the album generates any more excitement after the release. I have serious doubts as the tracks I have heard so far seem to be very middle of the road with a heavy Hagar solo album “feel” to them.

  4. Gee Lopz says:

I don´t give a shit for this. SO WHAT???

    This is NOT Van Halen!

    I DON´T CARE!!

  5. walteR says:

This is really cool… Maybe Wolfie can sneak out of the house and see a REAL bass player play!!!! Mikey rocks..

  6. mad anthony says:

Any member of this band would sell out any of this little venues (well maybe except Will Ferrell).
Don’t know what’s all the excitment of this “news”.

  7. Rodney says:

    GEE LOPZ
VH has no news…..unless u want new shoes, guitars, or pictures from the 80’s….they haven’t done anything for 10 years in my opinion. Quit yer whining. Go to vhstrungout.com if you want to read the same story 10x.

  8. Line6Guy says:

    VHJAMES68,

Yeah no kidding! Most of these “venues”(aka clubs) only hold 2000 people or less. It would be sad if they couldn’t sell that out in a quick period of time! The few tracks I’ve heard don’t really blow me away either. It sounds a lot like Sammy’s solo stuff, boring and cheesy ass lyrics! In other words, all the Waborita fans, including scar, will get a chub over it!! “Get a toothbrush…soap and a comb..” people…whoo hoo!!

  9. FAMAC says:

I think its interesting how Anthony and Hagar are always grouped together in photos (like the one for this post). To me, that doesn’t play like a real group - but Hagar and Anthony bringing in hired guns to substitute for the Van Halens.

I also think its interesting Joe knows the band thrives on live performance when it has never toured. Live performance with Sammy and Mike looks like an exercise in childish behavior, and will probably quickly wear thin with Satriani.

  10. JVH says:

Right now VH fans are taking what they can get, although the purists are undoubtedly frustrated.

  11. Andrew says:

I like what your saying FAMAC!! The one song with Sammy giggling at the beginning? Come on. Small bars is not a tour. I live near Toronto and the place their playing at is third rate!

  12. SCAR says:

For those catching the Foot this May in the smaller venue’s I envy you!!!! Rock on Chickenfoot!!!!!!!!!

  13. SCAR says:

Oh yea, line6geek, if your gonna act like a dick about Sammy’s lyrics again, you should wear a condom on your head so you can at least look like one!!!! Later Dickhead!!!

  14. Jor-L5150 says:

    gee lopez doesnt care….
…except he cares enough to post a negative comment ! LOL!

so they sell-out a small venue right away and thats still ” iffy ” ?
    wtf ?
DLR sold-out al-rosa villa in columbus in 6 days and all the roth fans ( including me ) made a hullabaloo about it.

chickenfoot sounds a lot like van hagar …because it has HALF of van hagar in it !!!

    ( …aaaaannnnd the haters get OWNED! )

  15. Aftershock says:

This just in, Rodney, in case you missed it …

Van Halen did record its highest-grossing tour in history spanning 2007-2008. Yes, David Lee Roth was at the helm. That’s pretty big news.

On a slightly lesser scale, but newsworthy nonetheless, Van Halen toured with Sammy Hagar in 2004, and recorded three news songs as part of yet another greatest hits package.

So, if your opinion, as you state, is actually that Van Halen hasn’t “done anything in 10 years” — well, your opinion is factually dead wrong.

If you want to qualify your statement by saying they haven’t done anything important or worthwhile in your eyes, well, that is an opinion (albeit sadly misguided). And actually, many buyers and fans are interested in VH-striped shoes, Ed’s guitars and pics from the 80s.

Not to mention new music when it happens. We have no control over when it happens. It’s just rock and roll. I don’t have to go vhstrungout.com to read the same story over and over again, I can do that at chickenfoot.com. I have never seen so much carefully choreographed hype for a band that has not released an album yet in my life. If the product matches the hype, then more power to them.

    So stop your whining.

  16. phil says:

hahaha i love the people who don’t care bout chickenfoot but take the time to read and comment on it! hahahahaha you’re all closet fans!

  17. phil says:

2000 seat venues are still better then the 200 seat venues dlr band use to sell out!

  18. Yes! says:

FAMAC is absolutely correct- Once again Hagar’s lyrics are childish and quite pedestrian. I have never viewed him as a good lyricist, he’s been recycling the same words his entire sub-par career. He plays a pretty good guitar, but as a front-man, definitely not worth the price of admission.

  19. Erick says:

hey Phil, but I don’t think they will make the 93 million that the mighty Van Halen made on their 2007/08 tour.

  20. Karl says:

Aftershock, just to clarify: you mean they did one tour in 2004 where, by all accounts, Ed was drunk most of the time and they just did a nostalgia tour to pump up their retirement funds and they recorded three (yes folks, that’s a whole three!) songs, only one of which was any good. Seriously dude, are you really trying to slap someone down with that lame effort?

  21. Bort says:

I still don’t get why people have this anger over Sammy. If you don’t think Sam was as good as Dave all the more power to you. Why is it so difficult to detach yourself from the group and maybe look at it as two different era’s (3 if you count Cherone) and leave it at that. Dave was great for the time and was/is an excellent showman and great for a quote. Love Dave’s music with VH but he didn’t continue with much good stuff post VH. I have to admit the bluegrass version of Jump made me vomit in my mouth. Sam wasn’t the greatest for a quote but it can’t be debated that he treats his fans much better than anyone else in the band (exept maybe Mike). One last point - If Sam is such a hack as you propose why is it that Montrose was one of the bands VH modeled themselves after before they made it big?

  22. Gee Lopz says:

    Hey Rodney!

Why don´t you visit the chickenBUTT ops! chickenfoot.us???

If you want news of the OTHER guys…

Van Halen. Pictures, old stuff, guitars, shoes…But is Van Halen.

    Chickenfoot is NOT Van Halen.

Don´t get me wrong. I like Sammy and Mike. I miss Mike on VH. But , i hear some chickenfoot songs, and belive it, is just another band. Regular. Good musicians… but, that´s all.

There is nothing really big and new there…

Not like Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin (or even Van Hagar)…

    Just on the Sammy´s head!!

  23. stew says:

Hey Erick, I can’t understand how someone could be a Van Halen fan and not like David Lee Roth! Anyone who likes the Hagar era over the Roth era just amazes me ! I’ve found that most people who like Hagar over Roth are woman!!! Just a thought!!

  24. phil says:

hey erick, sammy sat home and made $80 million plus from tequila. do you honestly think this tour is gonna hurt his wallet? and stew, i prefer classic vh over van hagar but appreciate both versions. why bash vh sammy with vh? what did he have to do with DLR quitting in ‘85? if you wanna blame anyone for classic vh not being around or awhile then blame eddie and dave. apparently, it was their huge egos that caused the break up originally.

  25. phil says:

and stew i have no problem attending concerts with more women but i guess you prefer the village people. more power to ya buddy!

  26. Deja Vu says:

Scored my seats for the Mass show. I was one of the lucky ones. Reminds me of the secret gig in 94, when sammy and VH showed up at the whiskey with 200 seats for 2000 fans and shut down sunset boulevard. As Alex said, just for a split second, it felt like it used too. Small venues, sammy, mikey joe “smoke” satriani and Chad. This will be a show for the ages. Im glad I got mine. Get ready to ROCK!!!!

  27. Deja Vu says:

Oh yeah, by the way, it was 90 bucks for 2 tickets. Im sure they would of sold out just as fast if the tixs were 100 a pop. Thanks Sammy for keepin it real for the fans.

  28. Aftershock says:

Yo, Karl, just to clarify: Someone saying they didn’t find the 2004 tour worth the money or even worthwhile is an opinion, and is subject to a wide array of differing thought.

Stating that Van Halen has not done anything in 10 years is not (opinion). That is idiocy.

    To wit:

Fact: One half of Van Halen’s 2004 touring lineup — that, according to you, went on a nostalgia tour to pad their bank accounts — now makes up one half of Chickenfoot.

Opinion: Sammy and Mike were nearly as toasted every night on stage in 2004 as Eddie was, although they appear to hold their alcohol better.

Fact: You attacked the 2004 tour to belittle my point — but, curiously, made no mention of the tour with Roth, which in and of itself is enough to prove my point correct.

Opinion: I shouldn’t be surprised that someone who mistakenly called me out for something I didn’t say a while back, now can’t follow along with something I actually did say.

Hope that clears things up for you!

  29. Skutch says:

Karl, I have to disagree. NONE of those three songs were any good. LOL

Aftershock rules and yes, most of us would rather read about shoes resembling Ed’s feet than Hagar’s recent attempts to write lyrics.

Why can’t we read anything about Dave being a paramedic or what Wolfie is up to? I think Dave being a paramedic in infinitely more intriguing than CF news. I know some people are into CF, but to say the other guys aren’t doing anything is selective news reporting.

  30. Brian says:

I would wager if Van Halen would play the Wachovia Center in Philly on May 29th with last years set list, it would be sold out.

  31. Rocko says:

    Go Foot Go!!!!

  32. ace5150 says:

    My cousin is a paramedic.

Do you want me to have him e-mail you about what it’s like?

I, and many others on here want to hear about a new and happening band making music and going on tour.

  33. pushtoshove says:

Can you Imagine the ” David Lee Roth-New York Paramedic ” reality show? Ratings thru the roof. But seriously I agree with Mr.Skutch on this one.David Lee Roth is highly underrated . It is easy to knock someone for something you cannot do your self.

  34. pushtoshove says:

    Relax Ace.We ‘hear’ you.

  35. ClubfootKolby says:

The 2004 tour was great, and the tickets were only fifty five bucks for good seats. You can thank Sammy for that. The 2007 tour was just as good just a little to much for tickets, 120 bucks for nose bleed section.

  36. Deja Vu says:

    Chickenfoot Lives!!!!!!!!!!

  37. surfsno says:

    the 2004 was an abortion.
thanx to ed and his liquor habit
hey the guy almost died from cancer so we are lucky to have him around
maybe we can excuse him and HIS band for doing nothing for the last years
sam and mike have fun and im sure satch and will ferell (i think he looks more like bill muray) like to hang and have fun too
the atmosphere is REAL unlike van halen which is all a show and the same one night after night too
i do give dave credit however
musically the 3 tracks are as good as van halen
lyrics are lyrics and they are not that bad
the same we heard in van hagar
dave is a better lyricist but not better singer

  38. Karl says:

Aftershock: “but, curiously, made no mention of the tour with Roth, which in and of itself is enough to prove my point correct.” Yes I did. That’s the nostalgia tour.

  39. Rodney says:

Aftershock …..You missed my point. Chickenfoot has released the same amount of songs in 1 month then VH has in 10 years. How does that not piss you off as a fan ?? I could care less about the tours…. I went to both and agree the 07-08 tour was better. However, Karl is right…Ed was a train wreck in 04. The songs they put out with Sam were horrible. The tour was a money grab from day one…..ditto for the DLR tour. Please don’t go on about hype and promo of chickenfoot when VH called their 07-08 tour a reunion tour. Chickenfoot may not be VH…….but its new music…and as a fan im tired of Ed peddling his merchandise. Im also tired of seeing “little to no news” for the past ten years. Next up for sale a Eddie Van Halen 5150 lunchbox with a decoder ring inside. Help decode the date of release for the new VH cd.

Karl….I agree with you completely. . The point is VH has not written any decent music since the Balance cd….and maybe the couple of songs with Dave for the greatest hits package. It was well documented that both Mike and Sam did not want expensive ticket prices in 04. In fact I believe Ed cut Mike’s percentage drastically.

The point im trying to make…..VH news, Chickenfoot news, Porn music news……it’s all the same. It’s about the music and it’s for the VH fans, Van Hagar fans, lol and the porn fans.

  40. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

How ignorant can people be man? The more things change…the more they stay the same.

I’m so sick and tired of logging on this site and hearing nothing but stupid comments about how “sammy’s doing something” and Van halen isnt. To start off, CLASSIC Van Halen gave us six of the most amazing rock albums that will forever be etched in the history of rock music…period. Many rock / metal groups are lucky if they make 2-3 decent albums and not many age as geacefully as van halens first 6.
To me that is SOMETHING. Would I love to hear a new album? Of course! But if it didnt happen….I’d get over it. To me the real proof in the pudding is the FACT that Van halen with ROTH made “94 million dollars” with their reunion tour. THE BIGGEST SELLING TOUR THE BAND EVER HAD. That to me proves that people just LOVE the old band together and the sales proved that….period! Case fucking closed ok? That’s it. They made their classic albums….and 22 years later get back together and blow everything they did with sammy out of the water! It doesnt take a genius to realize the truth. Sammy fans are just hurt that sammy will never step on stage with VH again. And im sure it pisses them off even more that the front man they’ve been shitting all over for years…brought the band back to legendary status.
I also agree with many fans that this should NOT be the site to hear about sammy and his new band. Sammy has made it clear for years that he wants nothing to do with van halen anymore. Well buddy if you dont like van halen why the hell are you promoting it on this site? It is truly ridiculous.
Thank you eddie dave alex and wolfgand for bringing the band back for the wonderful / stellar show i got to see back in november of 2007. I had goosebumps the whole show and it proved to me the orginal lineup made one hell of an impact.
So all you bitches keep bitching about how van halen has done nothing for the fans…you should be ashamed of yourselves to even call yourself fans. You’re a bunch of spoiled brats that can face the fact that VAn halen DID do something. Something that no one (even sammy)thought would happen: They got Roth back in the picture and rocked the fucking world! And I’m greateful for that!
    So here’s a tissue….get over it.

  41. Bort says:

    Ducky,

You are not the moral authority to throw out phrases like “you should be ashamed.” When it comes to opinions on rock singers there should be no shame involved. You are not as important as you think you are so maybe you need to bring it down a level.
I for one am not pissed off that Sammy’s not back in Van Halen. I think it was great while it lasted and hopefully these people can all get together and be friends and occasionally jam together.
Let’s be clear, I like DLR and have not ripped him (except for the lousy bluegrass Jump) but if I’m not mistaken, he’s the one that continues to live on the past while Sam and Mike have moved on.
In case you missed it, you are not the moral authority on a rock and roll website. There may be bigger fish to fry than rock singer debate.

  42. scowboy says:

    To you all:

Who friggin cares about any version of Van Halen vs. Chickenfoot or whatever the hell ever else.

I am pumped that there is some new ROCK AND ROLL coming out. Anybody remember ROCK AND ROLL or are you all still playing your Nickelback CD’s too much.

This will be the tour to see in 2009 / 2010.

  43. pushtoshove says:

I think Sammy is great and I think Van Halen is great. But I think it is really funny how people are so divided on this issue and how much free publicity these debates give Sammy and the foot. Oh and by the way it is the ‘Moral Majority’.

  44. Skutch says:

Ace, please post stories of your cousin’s paramedic work. It couldn’t be any less relevant to this site than Chickenfoot.

Mastodon is the tour to see this year.

  45. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

I’m glad a lot of you took what i wrote it personally…
That’s exactly the impact i wanted to make.

If you read what I wrote this was not towards “everyone” who posts here. I love music just as much as all of you. I feel that what i wrote made perfect sense. I’m not sorry at all that some were offended.

As far as what i wrote about being ashamed of yourselves….I fucking meant it. Too bad.
A lot of you “so called” fans make me sick because when you love something you stand behind it…not shit all over it.

No matter what i write it’s gonna offend someone. And believe it or not i respect anyone who will write back to me to tell me how they feel. I just cant stand being told to grow up cause I believe and love something so much.

Many wont have the balls to say it but most of what i wrote is deep in the hearts of classic van halen fans. If it wasnt this debate wouldnt have lasted over 20 years…

    Stay cool…keep rockin’ and rollin’…

  46. JVH says:

Van Halen News Desk- Where the Dave/Sammy debate is as fresh as 1986!

  47. craig says:

We should all be pulling for Van Halen and Chickenfoot as fans of Rock and Roll!! As VH fans I’m sure we can agree that part what attracted so many of us to them was the attitude, the swagger and the party atmosphere that they brought to the genre. It was a bonus that Eddie was so influential and wrote kick ass rock tunes. Not only were they able to attract the casual fan with the party vibe but they grabbed the attention of the music business and musicians around the world with the one two punch. Even I picked up a guitar and learned to play. When Van Halen came to town they brought the party with them and that applies to both incarnations of the band not matter what side of the fence you are on!! Rock has lost that edge!! Take a look at the charts and top downloads today, for the most part I wouldn’t even call rock popular music anymore. Whether we like to admit it or not the Van Halen genre, our genre is dying. Sure my musical tastes have broadened with age but this one is special and it would be nice to see it continue. I would like nothing more than to see both bands succeed and put out some serious material that they can legitimately tour behind. Hopefully infleunce a resurgence and capture a new generation of fans to our music. I support all past, present and I’m sure future members of Van Halen for their contributions to rock and roll!! I’ve got tickets to see Chickenfoot at The Mod Club. Looking forward to some new tunes and a few cocktails!! Hopefully sometime very soon I’ll be able to do the same at a VH concert!!!

  48. Jason says:

i would rather read nothing about VH than this stuff. i used to come here for breaking VH news, but we all know Sammy & Dave’s new venture could hardly be considered VH news. bye bye.

  49. Fredrocks says:

Alright I have read these posts for years and it is hard to beleive how mis-contsrewed rants can get, so here goes mine…

    A) The mighty Van Halen will never reincarnate without Mikey who by the way is a class act.
    B) This site is for all members of Van Halen past or present.
I like both versions of Van Halen (DLR & Sammy), Cherone wasn’t a good fit but I liked Extreme as long as it wasn’t the lollipop stuff.

I saw both versions 3 times a piece
DLR great showman, but in the “day” expecially 84 he couldn’t hold his water or rememeber lyrics live. Sammy good singer, lyricist not so much, but who cares either way, Both Van Halens’ are about fun rock & roll “the party!”
Music wise both versions had that vibe, but Dave loved cover tunes, anbody get sick of Diver Down? Just like I got tired of some of the 90’s stuff.

Favorite albums Fair Warning and 5150

Ed is responsible for both fallouts, he is one of the greatest guitarist ever, I rank him with Clapton and Hendrix. Clapton influnced Ed from his own mouth but he seamed to forget that when he was drinking look up “Howard Stern Show”
Ed was pissed about Hot sauces, Tequilla & Cabo Wabo but really guitars for the fans priced at what? Tennis shoes, amps, picks he needs to look in the mirror for stating that is why he got rid of Mikey. Now his son is here and we’ll have to live with it, but don’t blame side businesses for it.

Where is the extravagant Dave that we loved? I miss his crazy comments. He is being quiet so that he doesn’t piss Ed off, so is he really back or just a puppet right now…

So blast away at me for liking Chickenfoot it has a feel good groove like Van Halen. Who can blame them for their marketing, looks like they know how to make a buck as well Ed does.

Let any new music be heard about..
I do wish VH would put something new out and maybe they will, but I am tired of greatest somethings. Ed never wanted to do that back in the day.

This is just my opinion based on the facts that I have read here and on other sites, things change get over it

    Peace

  50. Vaneciatto says:

Does anyone remember what they paid to get in?

Seriously… I remember when this site was about to go tits up and a gracious group of peeps stood up and took it over and kept it going.

I think it is they, not random posters, who get to choose what and which story are Van Halen news worthy and I think they are doing a most excellent job.

Three cheers for the moderators!! Hip-Hip Hoo-Ray!

Oh, and what’s the copyright on this website… Started in ‘96??

Why that’s just when… Van Halen had no freaken singer at all.

So… if they were only to post “VAN HALEN” news… then…

    >COUGHCOUGH<

Would there have been any news at all?

Long Live VHND… bringer of the news of ALL Van Halen related materials!

    Amen!

  51. Karl says:

Ducky, no-one was offended. What you wrote wasn’t that good…

  52. Aftershock says:

Karl, I’m not a mind reader — I can only work with what you actually write.

You wrote (numerals and caps added for understanding emphasis): “(1) You mean they did one tour in 2004 where, by all accounts, Ed was drunk most of the time AND (2) they just did a nostalgia tour to pump up their retirement funds AND (3) they recorded three (yes folks, that’s a whole three!) songs, only one of which was any good.”

So, you’re telling me that in the space one long convoluted sentence you jumped from (1) the 2004 tour, to the (2) Roth tour in 2007-08, and then (3) back to the 2004 tour?

In your own words, I must ask: “Seriously dude, are you really trying to slap someone down with that lame effort?”

  53. Vaneciatto says:

    Somebody said… “Fair Warning Lord.”
Lord, strike those poor haters down!

  54. Rodney says:

    LOL
Dirty Duck….. easy man. Everyone is allowed to have there own opinions. I love VH music…DLR and Sammy era. I grew up during the 90’s grunge period but loved the classic VH. Shit I was one of the few people that bought VH3. I still crank both generations to this day. This doesn’t make me anymore or less a fan then you. If buying shoes, guitars, etc makes u a bigger fan in your eyes then fine.
As a fan im tired of Ed peddling his merchandise, im tired of him blaming everyone (Singers, Mikey) but himself.
They need to provide us with new music period!! Not merchandise and $100 nose bleed seats for 3/4 of nostalgia tour. Im not holding my breath for a new cd. If it drops…great I will be one to enjoy it. As for now…Im gonna enjoy Chickenfoot….cause it’s not Van Halen…it’s something new. As for people complaining about Chickenfoot news. Sam is out of VH…..Dave is in….be happy. Im glad that I got to see two great singers in my fav band.
This is not the official van halen news desk so anything related to the bands members past, present, or future should be posted.

I made a statement saying they haven’t done squat for the fans in 10 years and I stick by it. 2 tours with 3 new songs in 10 years does not impress me. This does not make me any less of a fan of the original DLR, Sammy, or Gary music.

  55. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

Really!? I put my heart into that one!
Guess i’m just not a one sentence type of guy….

  56. Jeremy says:

    DUCKY/DIRTY DUCK,

I DON’T TAKE WHAT YOU SAID PERSONALLY AT ALL. I TAKE IT AS AN INSULT AS A FAN YOU WOULD QUESTION THE FANS LOYALTY AS TO WHY WE ARE PISSED AS TO WHY THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD JUST DECIDES TO SAY “WELL WE ARE DONE FOR THIS MANY YEARS!”

LED ZEPPELIN QUIT BECAUSE JOHN BONHAM PASSED AWAY. PAGE AND PLANT WENT ON TO DO OTHER THINGS WITH THEIR CAREERS OUT OF RESPECT TO THEIR DRUMMER.

NOBODY HAS PASSED AWAY IN VAN HALEN, BUT IF YOU TOOK THE TIME TO REMEMBER HISTORY, EDDIE HAS TAKEN THIS BAND AND TURNED IT IN TO HIS PROJECT WHICH IS WHAT NOW?

ME AS A FAN, I APPRECIATE HISTORY, AND VAN HALEN PROVIDED ME WITH YEARS OF MUSIC AND ENJOYMENT. AS WITH ANY RELATIONSHIP, THINGS GO WRONG.

DAVE’S EGO RUINED THE BAND AND THEN THEY BROUGHT IN SAMMY AND HE TOOK THE BAND AND MADE THEM BETTER.

WHEN THE CABO WABO CANTINA OPENED IN 1990, VAN HALEN HAD ALL EQUAL STOCK IN IT. EDDIE DIDN’T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT THEN, BUT HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT IN 2004.

THIS GUY HAS PUSHED HIS GUITARS, AMPS,TO 5150 CONDOMS AND ERUPTION LUBE TO US, THE FANS AS A REPLACEMENT FOR NOT MAKING MUSIC. $35,000 FOR A GUITAR PEOPLE?

I DRINK TEQUILA AND IT’S $50 FOR A BOTTLE. I ENJOY HOT AND BARBEQUE SAUCE AND MIKE’S COSTS $10 FOR A BOTTLE.

THE ONLY THING THAT’S CHANGED IS EDDIE. SAMMY AND MIKE JUST WANT TO PLAY MUSIC BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT THEY DO BEST. SAMMY HAS OTHER BUSINESS VENTURES AND HE DOESN’T NEED THE MONEY HANDS DOWN AND EITHER DOES MIKE.

EDDIE FIRED SAMMY FOR HAVING A KID AND FIRED MIKE FOR PLAYING WITH SAMMY A FEW TIMES AND MADE HIM TAKE LESS MONEY JUST TO BE PART OF THE 2004 TOUR.

THIS ISN’T ABOUT MUSIC FOR EDDIE ANYMORE PURE AND SIMPLE. LET’S ALL SEE THE WRITING ON THE WALL AND COME TO THE CONCLUSION THIS BAND IS ABOUT MONEY, NOT MUSIC.

I’VE BEEN A FAN SINCE 1978 AND STOOD BEHIND VAN HALEN FOR EVERY SINGER CHANGE AND EVERYTHING ELSE. I SAW DAVE ON HIS EAT EM AND SMILE TOUR BECAUSE I LIKED DAVE.

BUT AS A FAN, YOU GET TIRED OF WONDERING WHY AND WHAT HAPPENED? I’M GLAD SAMMY HAGAR IS HERE IN THE WORLD GIVING ME MUSIC ON A YEARLY BASIS AND I’M GLAD MIKE IS GOING ALONG WITH IT BECAUSE HE DESERVES IT.

BUT TO ALL OF US FANS, 2 GREATEST HITS ALBUMS AND 2 REUNION TOURS IS NOT GOING TO CUT IT. IF YOU WANT TO STAND BY A BAND THAT IS DOING NOTHING, YOUR CHOICE, BUT I’D RATHER ROCK OUT WITH 2 FORMER MEMBERS WHO ARE ABOUT THE MUSIC AND THE FANS!

IF YOUR WIFE QUITS HAVING SEX WITH YOU FOR 11 YEARS, ARE YOU GOING TO STAND BY HER AND WAIT? NO YOU WON’T, BUT IF YOU HAVE A GIRLFRIEND WHO IS PUTTING OUT ALL THE TIME, YOU STICK WITH HER BECAUSE SHE IS FUN.

GOOD LUCK WAITING FOR THE COMA TO END. I HOPE IT DOES AS A FAN, BUT REALITY IS WHAT IT IS AND THAT’S THIS BAND IS DONE.

I DON’T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT MARRIAGES OR GRADUATIONS OR CANCER.

I’M MARRIED, HAD CANCER, AND JUST FINISHED COLLEGE WHILE WORKING IN THE REAL WORLD RAISING 2 KIDS AND TAKING CARE OF 2 HOMES.

ALL OF THAT CRAP ABOUT EDDIE IS AN EXCUSE. TIME FOR EVERYBODY TO FIGURE IT OUT AND MOVE ON!

  57. Aftershock says:

Personally, Ducky, it’s just my opinion, but I agreed with a lot of what you wrote.

    Write on!

  58. Ducky / Dirty Duck says:

    Aftershock: Thanks brother. ;)

  59. Karl says:

Sentence makes perfect sense to me, especially as the Roth tour is frequently referred to as a nostalgia tour. And why would the ‘04 tour qualify as a nostalgia tour? And how do the three songs of the greatest hits album take us back to the ‘04 tour. Knowing the history of the last few years and chronology of Van Halen’s meagre output how can you not read that sentence for what it is? Anyway, chill, I was just pointing out that I did mention the Roth tour. Why would I not, I went to see ‘em in NY.

  60. Karl says:

    Ducky: :-)

  61. Jeremy says:

    RODNEY,

I AGREE WITH YOU 100 PERCENT AND KEEP ROCKIN!

  62. Aftershock says:

Karl, you telling me to chill is like Vanilla Ice calling the igloo white.

You get more confused the longer you try and circumlocute your way out of a bind.

You wonder why anyone would call the 04 tour a nostalgia tour? OK, I’ll play along … probably because they reunited with a former singer, went on a big money tour that padded everyone’s bank accounts and played a set list full of old songs — with the exception of two new tunes that, according to you, at least one of which was crap.

How do the three songs of the greatest hits album take us back to the 04 tour? Are you seriously asking this question? What, you thought they might be playing these on the Roth tour? Dude, the 04 tour is when they were released and played. Clearly there’s only one tour those songs can possibly reflect on.

Again, I point you to your own words: “Knowing the history of the last few years and chronology of Van Halen’s meager output, how can you not” admit your own confusion?

  63. Rodney says:

    JEREMY,
Thanks brother….I look at it the same way. I will always be a big fan of the music. Lets look forward to the new Chickenfoot cd and hope VH gets off their ass one day. As for me….im not puttin once cent into Eddie’s pocket unless it’s for new music. People seem to forget they were left in the dark for many years with no news. Until VH releases some new music im def. not gonna lose any sleep over the situation. I will just turn my car stereo up a couple notches, cruise with my top down and enjoy both new music and old.

PS….If I dont get laid in 2 months the bitch has got to go

  64. Rodney says:

    AFTERSHOCK,
Just deal with the fact u will not see new music for at least a year or more. When that day comes we can all enjoy the new DLR/VH tunes. You can hold yer breath but Im a realist and doubt it’s coming anytime soon.

Why debate the 3/4 nostalgia tour. Not one song was new on that tour. The setlist was pretty much the same at every venue. In my opinion…the money grab was the 07/08 tour …look at the opening band Ziggy Marley. Did they pay him in Jamaican dollars. LOL

  65. Aftershock says:

    RODNEY,

What are YOU talking about? Do you just randomly assign opinions to posters on here that have nothing to do with anything they’ve actually ever said?

I am completely relegated to the idea that we may not hear DLR/VH tunes for a year or more. In fact, I have railed against those that insist on posting on every new thread here … “Yeah, but where’s the new music?” Like, for example, Karl has.

Believe me, I’m not holding my breath for anything. Like anything, I’ll judge it when/if I hear it. Incidentally, that’s exactly how I feel about Chickenfoot.

Please define which tour you are referring to when you label it 3/4. That tag can apply to either the 2004 or 2007/08 tour. (Think about it carefully … go ahead, I’ll wait.)

Besides, weren’t you the one who said the band hadn’t done ANYTHING in 10 years — now you’re differentiating between two tours that were both done in the last 10 years?

  66. pushtoshove says:

Where are all the white women?!? J/K…But this is a spinal tap moment. Just Saying.

  67. phil says:

VHND would be a very boring site without all our sh#! talking. i think it gives this site some personality. so everyone keep the sh@! talkin’ going!

  68. Brian says:

I wonder if this were 1984, would are parents be on some Chuck Berry website hoping he would put out a new album?

  69. Eric says:

ok - argue all you want, I don’t care about the guitar solos or Sammy or whatever. Simply put, the songs just aren’t that great. I can’t settle for this mediocrity just because there is nothing else like it around right now - I’ll give it a pass. i’d rather listen to the new Guns and Roses, at least it is somewhat original. These guys are washed up and washed out

  70. ace5150 says:

    Amen Fredrocks and Jeremy!!!

I love Eddie and the music he has made over the years but I personally blame him for what he has done to my favorite band of all time.

  71. phil says:

    13th birthday bastard!

  72. ClubfootKolby says:

It took the Eagles twentyeight years to make some new music, maybe we should get Don Henley to join Van Halen, he is a better singer than all three old Van Halen singers

  73. Skutch says:

Ducky and Aftershock RULE this playground! Keep it up, guys!

Rodney, if you have any VH bootlegs at all from over the years, you’ll quickly realize that they did the same setlist for most of their tours. They find the formula for the show that works and they stick with it. Evidently, Little Guitars wasn’t gelling with the crowd as much, so it was cut from the tour. I’m glad I heard it twice as I never expected to hear Little Guitars with Roth singing in my lifetime.

  74. Keith says:

I don’t care what any of you think. In fact this comment section is useless and a bad idea to an otherwise awesome website.

  75. surfsno2008 says:

this is the only breaking news on ex-van halen memebers we will ever get!
look- ed is alive and clean and dave is in.
sooner or later he will release an album if it does not implode in the studio. dave is smart and keeps his mouth shut. he is not going to blow it again. he wants to be in the band and its was his baby the first time round.
as for sam and mike and i am happy they have moved on and i think the tunes have good time groove to them like van halen did and they kick ass. i think the album is as good as anything van halen did with hagar. the last good music from van halen was balance. even in the tune human being you can see the music and the lyrics and the desire to make good music well going down the drain. blaahh ha. ha.
but seriously even if the new dave album sounds anything like the greatest hits tracks id buy it.
and yes the sam tracks were avg to not that good in 2004.

  76. I'll pay you for it wtf says:

    F*ck all you guys.

No, wait, my respect to each of you for being so passionate about the best band in rock ‘n roll. No other band inspires their own fans to fight so much among themselves. That’s kinda f’ing cool and lame at the same time.

    F*ck you Eddie.

I’m sorry. Thanks for giving me such incredible music over the years. You are entitled to be a human being and make mistakes like all of us. Forgive me for judging your personal life and expecting you to make music on my command.

    F*ck you striped shoes.

I’m not getting a pair on principle. I’ve bought vinyl, tape, and CD. VHS and DVD. Poster and magazine. I’d buy Van Halen grilled cheese sandwiches if they existed. But I’m not gonna buy your damn shoes. Uh…they are damn cool actually. Am I really compromising my rock and roll integrity if I buy just one pair? F*ck it. I’m getting a pair.

I’m so confused. Somebody get me a shot.

  77. Jeff says:

    To the last poster:

You need to listen to Human(s) Being again, bud. In no way was any musicianship “going down the drain” there. It’s probably the most bad-assed Sammy era song there is, IMO…probably due in part to EVH doing the lyrics himself in a somewhat clear state of mind.

    On the subject of Chickenfoot:

I’m not sure many people care outside of this site. I’m not even sure Chili Pepper fans are excited to see Chad in the group or plan on attending shows.

  78. Mikey C. Says says:

I am huge Van Halen Fan. Both Era’s. The two tracks from the Van Halen GH I in 1996 sounded like classic Van Halen. (Except for DRL’s Voice). But the rhythym of Mike, Alex and Eddie are priceless. Classic Van Halen. …The brown sound. Then they released Van Halen III and Eddie changed his guitar sound, sang backup and Michael Anthony was left off most of the tracks. And the album suffered. It didn’t sound like Van Halen. Then they released the GH Vol II in 2004 and made 3 awful tracks. Again, no Michael Anthony on Bass and no background vocals. The brown sound was gone. Van Halen will never sound like the band they once were years ago. Once Eddie left Kramer and Music Man Guitars, his sound changed. And once you take away Michael Anthony, the sound is different. And DLR vocals, well….too much weed and smoking did him in a long time ago. Now, I gave Chickenfoot a chance and I am telling you… I think the first 2 tracks are smoking. I am a drummer and Alex has always been my favorite but Chad Smith stepped it up a notch that alex would have a hard time emulating. The rhythym section is tight and hard. MA is back and keeps the bottom very warm, just like old Van Halen…A la Fair Warning. Very warm and a groove. And Joe Sat…wow..very nice. And the recording of this album is awesome!! 5150 needs a overhaul, and bad. I saw the DLR and Sammy Tour in 2002 and Sammy blew Dave out of the water. David is my favorite but Sammy was named the red rocker for a reason. Van Halen has disappointed me for soo long all I have is memories. I have seen every tour since 1984 and have met the band many times..I wish the boys would do another album but I hope they don’t because it won’t sound like the band I grew up with…..I tried to get a ticket for the Chickenfoot show at the Roxy in LA and ticket agency’s were selling them for $650 to $950 for 1 ticket. Trust me….this is not just a Van Hagar show…this is something that rock music has needed for a long time. All you have in music is American Idol and Coldplay. It’s time for something new..anything new.

  79. Mikey C. Says says:

Ray Daniels ruined this band. Do the research and figure it out…..Once Ed Leffler passed, Eddie and Alex changed…

  80. Karl says:

Sorry Aftershock, if you can’t read plain english there’s nothing more I can say.

  81. Jake says:

Ducky/Dirty Ducky, amen brother, 100% amen. You may have said it better than anyone else on here with your comments. When you look at the two reunion tours back to back, and I saw both two times a piece, the 2007/2008 tour completely destroyed the 2004 tour. The musicianship was back, Ed was stellar, and Dave just has that certain something that makes Eddie want to perform better.

I’ll say it again too, I loved both versions of VH and I was a huge Hagar/VH fan until the 2004 tour. (I actually completely dug the VHIII disc as well but felt the direction of the music changed so much they probably should have named the band something else) During the 2004 tour though it was painfully apparent to me that Hagar did it for the money, and to further promote his tequila. He also, during the tour, launched a greatest hits package of his own solo material if I’m not mistaken because he knew that would be the only time he might sell a copy. Again, more proof he only wants to use the VH name for his own bank account instead of really providing the fans with quality music and performances.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, quality over quantity for me. Hagar has put out a bunch of solo records that were so so at best since being kicked out of VH, he has gone out with Mikey as “The Other Half” and raped the VH brothers over and over again, and now he has formed a VH lite band to try and compete head to head with Ed and Dave. Sure he has been busy but the quality of his work just isn’t there which turned me against him. So for me the wait for some quality music is no issue at all. Take your time Ed and Dave, and for God’s sake just get it right!

Meanwhile with Chickenfoot, this stuff just isn’t ground breaking, and it doesn’t have to be, but it should still be great rock-n-roll, which it isn’t. It is fine music and Satch is a monster but Sammy just runs all over it and kills it in my opinion. I wanted to buy this record so much because we need great rock again from these guys, and VH. We need it bad, but this isn’t it. This is a tired old man trying to hire some big guns and cash in one last time.

Later everone, oh, and SCAR go F-yourself!! Just had to say it, sorry—–

  82. Aftershock says:

Karl, you really crack me up, bro.

So, now the guy who can’t follow along who posted what in another thread is telling me I can’t read plain English? That’s like Ozzy Osbourne calling Hemingway illiterate. That’s priceless. The funniest part to me is that your own words are so easily used against you every time you post. I almost feel guilty doing it, but you keep leading with your chin.

A little advice: Reading plain English is simple. Writing it … well, not so much. Don’t fret, not everyone has the gift.

If you still can’t figure out why the three new songs on BOBW ONLY reflect on the 2004 tour, then, on behalf of intelligent posters on the VHND, I accept your offer of you having nothing more to say.

  83. Karl says:

Wow, you’re seriously desperate to win this one, aren’t you…

OK, I apologise for I writing a sentence you couldn’t follow. So, here we go with the simple version, just so you get it:

    I wrote:
… they did one tour in 2004 where, by all accounts, Ed was drunk most of the time and they just did a nostalgia tour to pump up their retirement funds and they recorded three (yes folks, that’s a whole three!) songs, only one of which was any good.

For it to say what you want it to say it would have had to have read something like:
They did one tour in 2004 (where, by all accounts, Ed was drunk most of the time) which was nothing more than a nostalgia tour, the only purpose of which was to pump up their retirement funds and they backed it up with three (yes folks, that’s a whole three!) songs, only one of which was any good.

And just in case you still don’t get it here it is, point by point:
Van Halen’ activity over the last 10 years:
    a) The ‘04 tour with Sam where Ed was drunk all the time.
    b) The ‘07 tour which was a nostalgia tour, backed up with no new material and merely a cash grab in the certainty that us desperate fans would swallow anything with DLR on the front end (heck, I was so desperate I went from London to NY to see ‘em)
    c) Three (yes, a whole three) songs, only one of which was any good.

Now, we can dance around all night accusing each other of not being able to read or not being able to write, but back to the point. Yes, if you want to be pedantic, Van Halen have done something in the last ten years. But really, is a tour where you can’t be bothered to stay sober, another tour designed to squeeze every last pip out of your desperate fans before they forget who you are, and three crap songs really a fitting output for one of the greatest bands ever to have existed? You might call that doing something. I call it embarrassing.

Oh, and by the way, skip my comment about one of the songs being any good. I was thinking about Me Wise Magic which, of course, came out before Ed put the band on ice.

  84. Jake says:

SCAR, I wasn’t apologizing to you as I truly mean it when I say “SCAR Go F-yourself”. I was apologizing to the other guys that post on here.

  85. Sinners Swing says:

I read this forum now and then, never posted before. Gotta say something here. Karl you seem to be bugged and keep bringing up the “nostalgia tour” and seem to have a problem with Eddie being drunk on stage. Let’s see, so you have issues with bands going back out on the road to make money on their old music and drinking alcohol. I think you are describing 90% of the major rock acts of those days.

Sex, drugs, booze, rock ‘n roll, money….!! The American dream baby!! Sounds like you better take your whining and head back to Disco or maybe Country. Seems better suited for you pal. Eddie drunk staggering drunk is still way better than anyone else on the planet sober dude!!

  86. Aftershock says:

(Sigh) … How did I know you would renege on your boast of having nothing more to say?

Dude, do you really follow along with anything I’ve said, or do you just get your knickers in a twist and type the first bit of gibberish that comes to your mind?

For the record, I am fine if you want to call the 07-08 tour a nostalgia tour. That is your opinion. But that’s not how you wrote your first rambling rejoinder. My point is that you reference the 2004 tour AND a nostalgia tour to pump up their retirement funds AND they did three new songs.

All those points can apply to the 2004 tour.

    My questions are these:

Why do YOU consider 2007-08 to be a nostalgia tour, but not 2004? (Both tours featured reunions with former singers. Both padded the band members’ bank accounts. Both featured old songs — except for the two new ones played on the 2004 tour, which by your judgment weren’t good anyway.)

Why would you not admit that the three news songs on Best of Both Worlds ONLY apply to the 2004 tour? Clearly there is no other tour they can possibly be attached to.

Oh, and by the way, I am not desperate to win this discussion. If I hadn’t already demonstrated your befuddled state earlier, then you did it quite perfectly for me when you said you’d confused “Me Wise Magic” with the three new songs on Best of Both Worlds. Honestly, no knowledgeable Van Halen fan would have done that.

    Game. Set. Match.

  87. Skutch says:

The bout goes to……..AFTERSHOCK by unanimous decision.

  88. Karl says:

Jesus, you really are an idiot. Who cares which was the nostalgia tour? Who cares if the songs are associated with a tour, any tour, or not? Who cares if I can’t fucking write? Who cares if you can’t fucking read? Who cares if I was thinking about the wrong song? Typical of someone who’s lost the argument but can’t admit it - instead of focusing on the point you’re trying to focus attention on side issues. OK, you are 100% correct on all those points. Congratulations. Now, back to the point we were actually discussing: As I said, yes, if you want to be pedantic, Van Halen have done something in the last ten years. But really, is a tour where you can’t be bothered to stay sober, another tour designed to squeeze every last pip out of your desperate fans before they forget who you are, and three crap songs really a fitting output for one of the greatest bands ever to have existed? You might call that doing something. I call it embarrassing.

  89. Karl says:

Hey, Sinners Swing: If you’re happy with a Van Halen that just sells sneakers and guitar picks, good luck to you. Personally I’d prefer a ‘Mighty’ Van Halen showing the rest of the world how rock should be done…

  90. Sharpie says:

Good luck! Rock ON…I’m lovin this…About time a kickarse band!

  91. SCAR says:

Jake you are entitled to be stupid, but don’t abuse the privilege!!!!

  92. Aftershock says:

Yo, Karl, I see you’re still having trouble keeping up with who’s posting what on here. I haven’t seen any posts by Jesus yet. Maybe I missed them while I was listening to my live bootlegs of “Me Wise Magic” from the 2004 tour (rolling eyes).

I was glad, however, to see you take your beatdown like a child. Way to bounce back with an intelligent, well-thought-out response (that probably took seconds to craft) and not simply melt into a pool of babbling drivel.

I’m guessing I’m not the only one here who loves the irony of you throwing this statement at me, “Typical of someone who’s lost the argument but can’t admit it … ” in one sentence, then following it up in the very next one with: “OK, you are 100% correct on all those points.”

And yet you’re amazed that someone finds your illogic confusing?

In the interest of illumination, I’d be happy to address your litany of “who cares” questions with the following answer:

Everyone who invests any amount of their time coming to this message board searching for signs of some intelligent form of discourse on the Mighty Van Halen.

Guess what, you Einstein of Van Halen history, before I entertain the possibility of giving any of your opinions a modicum of credence, I’m probably going to want to know whether you have any idea what you are talking about. So, if through your posts you show that you actually know something about the band and can express yourself intelligently or with a bit of humor, well, I’m going to evaluate your opinions with a certain level of respect.

But if you’re going to challenge something I write by saying, “Seriously dude, are you really trying to slap someone down with that lame effort?” — then you better bring something more to the table than ducking questions about what constitutes a nostalgia tour (in your opinion, mind you), wondering why the three new songs on BOBW would only apply to the 2004 tour, and thinking that “Me Wise Magic” was one of the three new songs in 2004. You’ve been falling all over yourself from the beginning of this thread.

To cite a Van Halen reference, in the past, Eddie has described his soloing approach as falling down the stairs and landing on his feet. You, however, tripped at the top of the stairs and are lying in a crumpled heap at the bottom of this thread. You might call THAT doing something, but I call it embarrassing.

Look, I wish the band had done a lot more over the last 10 years just like almost everyone else on here. But they haven’t. I still maintain that if Van Halen never releases another album, never goes on another tour or never does anything musically — hey, I’m still a glass full kind of guy. I’m going to appreciate everything they have already given me. I refuse to get worked up over the things out of my control.

To say that the band has not done anything in the last 10 years is ignorant and shortsighted. Look, I don’t care if you personally like what they did, but reuniting with Roth was something most of us never thought would happen again. The 2007-08 tour was greeted with great reviews all over the country. Nobody was forced to buy a ticket to the show. I don’t accept any comment about squeezing the last pip out of anything unless it’s being said Gladys Knight.

Karl, you’re the one who traveled all the way from London to see Van Halen in New York on the last tour. If you keep maintaining the band didn’t do anything, then who’s really the fool here?

Of all the people I personally know who saw the 2007-08 tour, not one of them was asking for their money back — and would do it again tomorrow. That is something, whether you can admit it or not.

  93. Karl says:

Wow, so you actually agree then. Did you really need that many words to say so? Oh, sorry, you were demonstrating you superior intellect…

  94. Aftershock says:

Check, Karl, I’ve been demonstrating it all along.

If you read all that and came to the grand conclusion that we agree, then your reading comprehension is on par with your writing ability.

  95. ClubfootKolby says:

    2004 tour was the best

  96. Karl says:

“Look, I wish the band had done a lot more over the last 10 years just like almost everyone else on here.”

  97. Aftershock says:

    ” … HAD DONE A LOT MORE OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS … ”

Ergo, they have DONE something — which, if you’ll follow that back to my original point that you attacked, is what I said in the beginning.

    Checkmate.

  98. Karl says:

And I’ve acknowledged all the way through this exchange that they have indeed done ’something’.

Anyway, I think that the fact that you’ve spent almost the entirety of this exchange fixating on a poorly worded sentence from myself (despite my clarification) rather than dealing with my point, namely that the greatest rock band of all time should be a lot more than a retread of its former glories and a sneaker seller, says a lot more than anything you’ve written.

Hey, peace, we’re both on the same team.

  99. Line6Guy says:

    “2004 tour was the best”

Haha yeah, have another shot of Cabo Wabo ClubfootKolby…that tour SUCKED!

  100. Jeremy says:

    AFTERSHOCK AND KARL:

LET’S BE HONEST HERE ABOUT VAN HALEN’S 2 TOURS.

THEY BOTH WERE ABOUT MONEY AND THAT’S IT PURE AND SIMPLE. EDDIE CARES ABOUT MONEY, NOT MUSIC ANYMORE. I HAD FRIENDS GO TO THE LAST “TOUR” AND THEY SAID IT SUCKED.

i WENT TO THE TOUR IN 2004 AND IT WAS A GREAT SHOW BECAUSE IT WAS WITH A MEMBER THEY KICKED OUT IN 96 FOR HAVING A KID. A MEMBER WHO WAS IN THE BAND LONGER THAN DAVE AND MADE THEM MORE SUCCESSFUL.

THE REASON WHY THE LAST TOUR IS CALLED A NOSTALGIA TOUR IS BECAUSE THEY BOOTED OUT MICHAEL ANTHONY FOR WHAT REASON? NO NEW SONGS, NO NEW ANYTHING. IT’S A JOKE TO US THE FANS THAT EDDIE DECIDES TO BRING DAVE BACK TO TOUR WITH HIS SON?

I MEAN THAT’S LIKE THE BEATLES GETTING JOHN AND GEORGE’S SONS TO REPLACE THEM AND SAYING THE BEATLES ARE BACK.

SAMMY WAS A MEMBER OF VAN HALEN FOR OVER 11 YEARS, SO THAT COULD BE CALLED A REUNION TOUR. IT HAD ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE BAND. BRINGING DAVE BACK JUST MAKE IT A TOUR ABOUT HAVING DAVE BACK. WHY NO ME WISE MAGIC OR CAN’T GET THIS STUFF NO MORE AS PART OF THE SET LIST?

WHY THE ADDING OF MIKE’S BACKGROUND VOCALS ON THE LAST TOUR?

CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT, BUT VAN HALEN IS A JOKE OF A BAND NOW. DAVE IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND, AND EDDIE TOOK THIS BAND AND NUKED IT BEYOND REPAIR.

SO GO BUY YOUR 5150 CONDOMS AND ERUPTION LUBE AND BEND OVER AND TAKE IT UP THE ARSE LIKE HE’S BEEN DOING TO US SINCE 1996.

2 TOURS AND 3 SONGS ARE NOT, ARE NOT, ANYTHING TO BE PROUD OF.

    SEEN VALERIE BERTINELLI LATELY?

GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW BAD OF A PERSON EDDIE WAS TO HER AS WELL TO WHERE NOW SHE IS SO GOD DAMN HOT I GOT AN ERECTION JUST WRITING THIS.

HE ALMOST RUINED THE MOTHER OF HIS KID DUE TO HIS PROBLEMS WITH ADDICTION.

SO THE DEBATE IS OVER. 2 TOURS WITH 2 SINGERS AND 3 SONGS. ALL WAS TO MAKE MONEY AND THAT’S IT. NO LOVE FOR THE FANS ON THE LAST TOUR AT ALL.

SAMMY IS ALL ABOUT THE FANS WHO MADE HIM WHO HE IS. SIGNING STUFF AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS THE WAY EDDIE AND EVERY ROCK STAR SHOULD BE.

FREE SHOWS A WEEK LONG IN CABO DOESN’T HAVE TO BE DONE, BUT YET IT’S BEEN DONE FOR 18 PLUS YEARS. WOULD EDDIE OR DAVE DO THAT FOR US?

WOULD DAVE SING A SAMMY SONG FOR ALL THE VAN HALEN FANS? NOPE BUT SAMMY AND GARY DID FOR THE FANS. WOULD EDDIE PLAY ANY SAMMY TUNES AS WELL? NOPE TO THAT TOO.

I WISH EDDIE WOULD JUST GO BACK TO HOLLAND AND RETIRE FOR GOOD. NOT ALEX, BUT EDDIE. GO BACK TO DUTCHVILLE AND MAKE A WINDMILL OR SOMETHING!

  101. Karl says:

A bit stronger than I would have put it but basically, yes, that’s just about what I’ve been saying all along…
