Amazing! I’m so sad this magazine isn’t published in my country…
March 15th, 2009 at 8:28 pm
Very exciting. I hope they give us all some great rock and roll.
March 15th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
..zzzzz…..
March 15th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
erick is sleepy…..
March 16th, 2009 at 3:12 am
This could be special
March 16th, 2009 at 3:50 am
Hey I see by the ads on the side that Eddie has some new picks to sell ya. That’s kinda the same as new music - isn’t it ?
Roll on the 21st Century and new music !!
March 16th, 2009 at 4:02 am
sammyvanroth -
I’m not sure it’s that Erick is sleepy, I think he’s doing an impression of the amount of activity current VH lineup ……..
March 16th, 2009 at 5:19 am
…at least : NEW MUSIC and a TOUR IN EUROPE, thx to CF for that !
March 16th, 2009 at 5:44 am
But hey EVH apologists, never fear, Ed has some new Frankenstrat Chuck Taylors to sell you!
Years without a new Van Halen album - ten and counting….
If Chickenfoot putting out new music means “zzzzz” to you, what the hell does Van Halen mean?
March 16th, 2009 at 6:21 am
i’m very excited! satch n sammy in one band with mike and chad…its a real super group! can’t wait to get the album…its a rocker for sure…!
March 16th, 2009 at 6:48 am
I hope this is good.
March 16th, 2009 at 7:06 am
This is going to be a FUN tour, and since the Van Roth reunion tour was JOYLESS, I think this tour with Joe, Mikey, Chad, and Sammy are going to have so much REAL fun! What’s better than friends making music together - as opposed to musicians with a “financial” arrangement!!!! Thanks to the VHND for covering Chickenfoot!!!! I can’t WAIT for this album!
March 16th, 2009 at 7:51 am
Hey Chunk, the only thing joyless about the reunion tour was you pal. You probably had nose bleed seats and your date was another guy.
March 16th, 2009 at 8:10 am
Believe me, no one is happy about the fact that VH is stagnant. But that doesn’t mean we have to embrace Sammy’s continued release of regurgitated crap. Sammy is one Hawaiian shirt away from being the new Jimmy Buffet of rock music.
The name Chickenfoot is so stupid I want to punch myself in the face for ever defending Hagar (when I was a kid). And let’s not forget, Hagar is quite the tequilla propagandist himself.
The hell with ‘em all, except Dave. He’s the only one that wants to truly rock, except he’s stuck with the ‘Ed and Al anchor’ around his neck. Poor bastard.
March 16th, 2009 at 8:56 am
BILLY,YOUR EXACTLY RIGHT,EXCEPT THAT VH IS NOT STAGNANT,THEY TOURED LAST YEAR,AND ED SAID IN HIS LAST COUPLE INTERVIEWS THAT NEW MUSIC WITH DAVE WILL BE COMING RIGHT AFTER THE WEDDING.JUST A LITTLE MORE PATIENCE…AFTER ALL EDS BEEN THRU CANCER.DIVORCE,HIP SURGERY ETC..THIS SUMMER WILL BE SPECIAL FOR VH FANS..ALL THIS CHICKEN CRAP WILL BE FORGOTTEN.ALL THIS BAND IS , SAMS BEST WASHED UP IMITATION OF VH..
March 16th, 2009 at 9:20 am
Although Chicken Foot will never be the same as the mighty Van Halen I am happy to see Sammy and Mike keep on going. I love Van Halen but I don’t think it is either Sammy or Mike’s fault that they are not still in VH.
I am excited to hear this CD, but Christmas will really come when the new Van Halen CD comes out!!
March 16th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Another lame discussion….
March 16th, 2009 at 9:52 am
Where’s the rest of the neck of Mikey’s bass??
March 16th, 2009 at 9:53 am
Why can’t people just accept it as a new band? Joe is no Eddie, but Eddie is no Joe. It’s like Kobe vs. Jordan, Wilt vs. Kareem, etc etc. They are all their own person, band, whatever. I will go see both (if VH goes out with GNR), and enjoy every damn minute of it!
March 16th, 2009 at 10:30 am
I excited to hear how Mike’s bass is going to sound, being that he is playing with a guitarist that is WAY more technically advanced than Eddie.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:22 am
mmm…not sure ’bout this…but ready to be surprised
lots of faith in new evh material…someday!
March 16th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Billy speaks much truth. Scar and Erick, you never cease to make me laugh out loud. If Chuck wasn’t already my date to the Chickenfoot show, I’d ask you two. LOL
Guys, I’ll give this album a listen, but I’m not going to feel like I need to like it just because Ed isn’t recording his own stuff. That’s just dumb. For you guys excited to hear this, man that’s cool and it’s all good. For me, I’m hyped about the new Mastodon album on the 24th.
Blah, pitch in. These discussions are bringing some life to my boring desk job.
March 16th, 2009 at 11:56 am
David, you are right. This is a it’s own band completely, which is why we wonder why it is on here. Yoinks!?
March 16th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
I doubt the songs will be that great. Sammy’s really lost it in the song writing department.
March 16th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I’m just stoked to see Will Farrell pound on the drums. Maybe he’ll streak across the stage with a sock around his junk… just like he did in “Old School”.
March 16th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
I just want to know why Will Ferrell is not getting due credit on the drums.
March 16th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Do you bashers ever sit back and look at what you write, realizing that you are devoid of much brainpower at all? If not, let me clarify: indeed you are.
What have you ever done, other than smear your keypad with Cheetos dust, and wish your life amounted to more than it has.
Get a life.
Here’s to fresh music from some truly great musicians!
March 16th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
It Could be HSAS again.
Hagar-Smith-Anthony-Satriani.
March 16th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
good to have a fun, solid, rock record comin out but c’mon let’s face it they are stratigicaly gettin this thing out before vh releases something, whenever that may be.sammy has the greatest rock voice that i never want to hear again tho.seriously his voice just causes no emotional stir inside me what so ever.
March 16th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
you guys still waiting for new stuff better prepare for no new stuff. take everything evh has said over the years and ask your self how much of it is b.s. and how much isn’t. i have yet to hear or see anything that will change that. did it occur to anyone that the only reason DLR reunited with VH was for money? he might not need to make any more music with EVH. the talk has been for years and the talk is cheap. you don’t know how wrong i want to be on this.
March 16th, 2009 at 3:17 pm
I hope it’s good. As for VH…the fact that Ed isn’t inviting Dave to the wedding….not a good sign of friendship. What happened to Ed’s “new brother”?
March 16th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
There’s always got to be some Sammy bashing. It will never end so I just tune these folks out. Besides it’s a free country and to each his own. As for me I’m looking forward to new music with Sam and it’s great to see Mike involved in new music and a new band.
March 16th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Yes. 10 years since any NEW VH music. My friend I were commenting the other day that VH III has aged well…well for what it is.
Folks, here is some new music by a bunch of A-list guys (yes they are all A-list IMHO). This should be entertaining if nothing else. I will be shocked if the VH brothers can ever finish and publish any new VH music. I just do not see it happening.
March 16th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
dave says…
Kindly provide the link which shows, Ed, not inviting Dave, to his wedding….Thanks.
March 16th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
what is Will Ferrell doing on the cover and where is Chad Smith?!?!? haHaHA
Good Luck to CF!!!!! - and hoping VH’s new album doesn’t take DLR multiple takes to record each track like it did for his two tracks on the Best Of…..
March 17th, 2009 at 12:03 am
All of you Sammy haters, grow up move out of mommy’s house, cut the off mullet and find some employment. P.S. being a member of the Roth Army isn’t a real career.
March 17th, 2009 at 12:08 am
Okay, I missed typed. I meant to write cut off the mullet. Maybe I had a little too much Tequila.
March 17th, 2009 at 10:31 am
YES!!! Sammy still has great pipes, Mikey and Chad make an awesome rhythm section, and Satch still rocks! I can’t wair for the CD…real rock n roll lives on!
Van Who-len? CHICKENFOOT!!!
March 17th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Same ol same argument, Dave vs Sammy, If its not VH its crap, again and again since Dave left the band in 1985. I myself have my personal views on which incarnation of VH is better or my favorite etc……..But I love all VH, and every member that has particpated over the years! Why wouldnt we want Hagar and Mikey to be successful, or give us (hopefully) some good rockin new music? I hope Eddie and the guys get back in the studio after his summer’s nuptuals, and dont wish any ill will to any current or former member of the mighty VH!! We all should!!
March 17th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
F*@& Yeah! Blackbird Tab!!!!!…..Chicken wha?
March 17th, 2009 at 3:31 pm
Nice group photo. Looking forward to hearing how this band sounds.
March 17th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
MIKE…the reason people bash Sammy is because it tested the notion of how important Dave was to VH, or in music period.
Ever wonder why people don’t bash Gary? His incarnation never really tested either previous era of VH.
Sammy did the unthinkable…he virtually all but ignored all that classic VH material (which I love!) and made his own way. He was not going to make it based on someone else’s material. Good for him…we got TWO unique eras of VH…one of which still scares the shit out of all the Dave fans.
I understand that, but I don’t get it. I’m more of a Sammy fan, but you know what? I LOVE Dave solo AND with VH.
More “big rock” is good for me…but some people will never be satisfied as long as there’s at least ONE person that digs Sammy, or one news agency that finds him newsworthy.
And that, in short, is why some people find Sammy such a threat to their vision of what VH was and should always be…a band that Sammy never fronted.
After all these years, Sammy is still rockin’…still productive…and still more newsworthy than Dave, despite his low-key attitude and less bombastic approach.
This shit must drive the “Dave only” fans nuts, but I say, list to that early era, and all those great early VH albums, and hunker down for some true excitement as Sammy and Co. put their best “Chickenfoot” forward!
Smile people…it’s just music…
March 17th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
I agree Pete. We’re scared Sam might record with VH again and give us another crappy album, like Balance or OU812. Go ahead and say, “at least that means they were recording”. Then I’d say, “Pete, you go girl!”. LOL
Still productive does not equal still rockin. Seriously though. I just come to this site because it cracks me up. I don’t care what anyone else listens to. I just like seeing people get all excited over some records.
Here’s this website in a nutshell
Ed isn’t recording: that sucks
Ed is selling all sort of merch: who cares.
Chickenfoot is recording: Fine. 1/2 people are excited, other half aren’t into sammy’s music (and we like to get you rockers riled up).
SCAR for President!
March 17th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
You know, I’ve listened to the Diamond Dave vs. Redrocker comparisons over the year, and it is getting so old. What has DLR actually done in his career since ‘85 when he quit VH? The Redrocker already had a successful solo career before being invited by the VH brothers to replace DLR in ‘85. VH actually sold more records with SH at the helm than they did with DLR. True, they didn’t make as many records of new material, but they still outsold DLR-fronted VH. And true, he moved the band to a different sound and away from spandex and cover tunes of the DLR era. Bottom line is that SH has been successfull his entire career in music, with or w/o VH. If EVH fixed his drinking problem, Van Hagar would still be together with Mad Anthony on bass. So the SH haters should be happy for Mike and the Redrocker, and hope DLR can actually create something new with 3/4 of the original VH. Good luck to both bands, and long live the mighty VH!
March 17th, 2009 at 6:13 pm
SKUTCH…you sound like a good shit. I usually find people with completely opposing opinions to mine far more interesting, and I can appreciate where you’re coming from.
On a completely different note, what are you listening to these days? I’m always on the lookout for something cool to add to the ol’ Ipod…and I find it harder lately. (I really like the whole tone of the new Nickelback…Mutt Lange is a genius, except for lettin
g Shania slip away and all, which as a man I COMPLETELY disrespect!)
I’m also listening to a lot of old Satch, which I guess is related to the whole CF buzz…and I’ve also rediscovered my love of Dave’s “A Little Aint Enough” CD, as well as an old bootleg of Dave’s “Eat ‘em And Smile” tour…
March 17th, 2009 at 6:14 pm
5150 - check out Dave’s solo stuff too…I can honestly say that though I favor Sam, I have always enjoyed his solo stuff too. It surprised me on the “Sam & Dave” tour that he ignored such great tunes as “Just Like Paradise” and “Sensible Shoes”…
March 17th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
See Mike’s face on this cover. He’s thinking: “yeah, I wish I was back in VH too”
March 17th, 2009 at 9:13 pm
Is it just me or does anyone else out there think that Mike could have made a great lead singer for VH? I’ve heard him sing some of Daves song on several occasions and he can actually hit higher notes than Dave or Sammy.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Pete, I’m dying to hear the new Mastodon album. They’re great players, but not too pretentious like some other progressive type stuff. I’m looking forward to that. Other stuff I’ve bought recently is the new A Camp CD and Aimee Mann CD. Both are super mellow, but I like the writing alot. My friend just turned me onto Torche from out of Atlanta. They’re pretty killer.
Agreed, Dave’s last few CD have been less than stellar. I loved EEAS and Skyscraper and I think Vai was at his peak from ‘84-88. After that, he just sounded too produced to appeal to me. It was really sad that Jason Becker got ALS after A Lil Ain’t Enough, because I think he and Roth could have kept making great music together. That album had a few great songs on it, but some throwaways too.
I haven’t listened to Satch in probably a decade. He’s a super nice guy and his Satchurator is a great little cheap distortion pedal. When I was listening to Satch alot, his self titled was my favorite. The songs just seemed less showy and had more emotion. Whatever. It’s only rock and roll.
March 17th, 2009 at 9:17 pm
I think we all get a kick out of this site now. That’s why the same 15 guys are posting over and over.
I remember two or three years ago when this site was dead and finally the guy was going to shut it down. Look at us now, arguing like a bunch of school girls. Isn’t it great?!
March 18th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Dude…Nickelback freakin’ sucks man!
March 18th, 2009 at 2:42 pm
Hi 5150. The Van Hagar era didn’t sell anywhere near the DLR era. Total US sales according to RIAA are 34 million DLR era, 16 million Sammy plus 5 million live/greatest hits and .5 for VH3. Granted, there’s 6 DLR studio albums versus 4 Sammy era albums.
