The Van Halen News Desk brings you another CHICKENFOOT UPDATE with exclusive info:
CD & TOUR INFO:
Chickenfoot’s self-titled debut CD will be released in either APRIL or MAY. The first single might be either “Oh, Yeah!” or “Bitten By The Wolf.” The tour will kick off in MAY, warming up in smaller venues (possibly clubs) in the USA followed by a few weeks in Europe during the summer. Then the band will return to the USA for a larger headlining tour this fall. The band is planning on performing the entire CD as well as songs from each of the band members careers. So, expect to hear some classics from Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and some blazin’ Joe Satriani instrumentals! It’s going to be a great year for rock ‘n’ roll!

I am one of the biggest VH fans ever- I love both Vh line-ups (excluding Gary Cherone). And I loved the last tour with Dave, but at least Mike and Sammy are putting out new music. Until there is some new huge news about a new Vh album- I have no problem hearing about former members of the band. You don’t have to read the articles about these guys anyway

To all those that want just Van Halen news. Check the website in a year ….. maybe a couple of extra headlines if Ed markets and sells more shit. You guys like to bash Sam way too much….he happens to be the only one creating new news. Nobody ever seems to bash Ed after all the BS he has put the fans thru. In case u guys forgot…Sam has yet to write music for porn movies LMAO

I know the Gary Cherone era was a low point for VH fans, but as far as being his own musician, if you watch Gary with Extreme doing the Queen song medley at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, they RULED the stage, compared to all the other “Big-name” bands on there. But nobody can replace DLR in VH… I blame the fact that VHIII happened on Eddie…

I am waiting for Ed and Co to become a little more professional ( Like Sammy is ) and keep us posted on when he’s writing,when he’s recording and when they Tentatively will record and tour for a new CD….Sammy makes waiting for new music look good while Ed is kind of nebulous about everything-That’s the difference….I love VH ROTH but it is Ed’s show now and he needs a little guidance but he may not get it soon enough…too much Ego not enough product

Hey…all it takes is a current Band photo and some words saying things like ” We’re working on new music and getting ready to record”…or something like that….But someone here will probably say that I’m Bashing Ed and Ed should take his time…etc etc etc….Since when did we all become so politically correct that the truth is obscured by Inept and misguided attempts to not hurt anyone’s feelings….Ed needs to Record and get back into music otherwise he’s a nostalgia act period.

I have learned over the years that anything is possible in the VH world. The bottom line is we want and need more music!!! I’m gonna check out Chickenfoot just like a lot of you out there will. I’m looking forward to some new ass kicking tunes from Chickenfoot and VH. We should consider ourselves to be lucky.

Anyone who thinks this band is going to play Van Halen songs in any way shape or form is kidding themselves. If they cover any songs, they will probably be Who or Zep songs or some classic rock of that sort.
Look, I’m happy these guys are making music and doing their own thing, but this is no more Van Halen news than the new Mastodon record coming out, which will eat Chickenfoot for breakfast. This album is going to be so predictable anyway. Lame lyrics about beaches and sex, high background harmonies, and super long weedily weedily wee guitar solos.

I grew up on VH ( Roth), then things changed. I happened to like when Sammy came aboard. Hey, give him credit, he filled some big shoes. Remember ED and Al accepted Sammy in the band, they hired him, he would have been a fool to turn down that gig. Things changed again, Gary tried, give him credit for trying. I am amazed a t how so many VH fans are trapped in the past. Guys!, yes it is great music, but things and times change- and thank God they do. Imagine if muscic did not move forward and musicians did not try to progress- that what classic radio is. DLR fans like it or not Sammy is a part of VH. Forget the judgement, they were both great bands oin their own way. Sammy has moved on at least he’s still creating NEW music- like it or not. Listen I think Eddie is AMAZING, but C’mon to say Satriani sucks!, who must be absolutely clueless. He is an extreme innovator. Besides its not a “pissing match”. Satch is amazing, Eddie is amazing, Al lays down thunderous beats, and mikey is the hormony in VH.

Sammy and Mike is part of Van Halen’s History and has more heart for the fans. Besides, they are keeping more active by making new music with Chad and Joe. I hope Ed, Al Wolf and Dave will get back in action so We’ll hear more of what the current line up is up to on a new musical note

Hey guys. I know this has been said before. But I thought I would provide the link. If you want a Van Halen current members only news site. http://van-halen.com/news.html THERE YOU GO! The VHND always has reported this way, it always will. The VHND reported on Dave’s misadventures and projects when sammy was not in the band from day one. Here are the articles from september 1996 http://vhnd.com/old/archive/0996.shtml It includes an article about Sammy Hagar’s birthday bash. This was after he was out of Van halen and the MTV fiasco with DLR happened. What does this prove? That VHND has been reporting about past band members from the beginning. It would be wrong to change the site now.
On another note. Can you fix the VHND site so you can go to the old archived articles easily? I had to google my way to that. Don’t hide all that VHND history from us. The monthly archives only go back to 04. Don’t be like Ed and cover history.

first off i am a big vh fan, both sam and dave. how many times will sam go out and play van halen songs? he’s done it with the wabos, the other half, and now with chickenfoot. it was a little weird to see and hear the other half perform running with the devil. sammy, you had nothing to do with that song. how many new guitarists will sam have playing eddies material? move on. i am anxiously waiting to hear the new chickenfoot material. just getting a little nervous that a live show will consist of too many covers. but we all know that casual fans will want to hear the older material. i’ve been down that road before.

SCAR: I can’t believe you admitted that you will check out the new Chickenfoot. I always thought you’d be cool to hang out and have a beer with (or many more than that, and maybe a hit or two). But then you’d go on with that “you’re a poser” shit with anyone that stood up for Sammy. Well this gives me hope in mankind.
Pushtoshove: On the money man. Sam fucking tells us what’s he’s up to - and he’s always busy giving back. It’s like he is taking care of his community. Dude understands how he got to where he is. I love Ed and have hung on every word he has said. But take a moment to check out his new Wolgang site. An amazing site with more video and interview footage than anything we’ve all scoured the net for in the past ten years. But it’s all for his guitar -which is probably the best and most amazing guitar ever. And I’m cool with that and even congratulate him on it. But where’s the music for the fans that have lived to hear his art? Is it too much to ask for a new album every few years? As phenomenal as Ed is, do you sense chemistry in the band, between Ed and Dave? He’ll…give him a call after…graduation…to see if he wants to whoop and hollar? Are you serious? Wake the f up. Somebody. I have a family and kids and I believe his family should come first. But I don’t sense any chemistry, any excitement. Are you all a bunch of yes-men, teenie boppers that approve of everything he says or does? C’mon Ed, we don’t have a problem with you taking what you deserve and making what you can. Just temper it with some fucking new music!

I believe this site is definitely the net’s best source for Van Halen, David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar & Chickenfoot news. Well, outside of Melodicrock and a few other sites, nothing beats this site. And, besides, a little Gary Cherone news every now and then never hurt anyone anyways… Get over it!

If you want VH news go to their home page,it seems pretty obvious that this site is dedicated to anyone who had something to do with Van Halen (Minus Gary Cherone, an oversight I’m sure) Get over yourselves, remember that these guys have lives outside of making music, its not the only thing that they have to do. As we get older more responsibilties come into play. I for one am not so shallow that I need new VH music to get me through the coming days, if that is what you need then you need to look at yourself and wonder what it is you think they owe you! They didn’t promise any such thing, good things come to those who wait! There is more to life than Van Halen, trust me when they come back it will be awesome, do you really think that eddie has stopped writing music? If so you are really out of the loop of what a man who made his living writing songs does! Chill it will happen!

You guys need to lay off Sammy. At least he cares about the fans and providing for us. At least he puts out something every year or every other year. Not every three years like Van Halen. Dont get me wrong, Van Halen is the greatest band in the world. Problem is they know it and act accordingly. Hearing Chickenfoot give exact details of what is happening is a breath of fresh air to Eddies “We’re thinking of writing an album right now.” I am pumped for this Chickenfoot expirement. Where else can you go to hear Chickenfoot songs (the samples I have heard so far kick a$$, Van Halen songs, Satch boogies and Chili Peppers. Im am for sure hitting this show when it comes around and cant wait. Please Sammy, if you are reading this, hit up Florida a couple times. Ill go every time.

If you only want Dave-era news, go to Dave’s website and read about his No-holds Bar-b-que or whatever turns your crank.
Like it or not Sammy & Mike are part of the VH story and people come here to hear about what they’re up to just as much as Dave or Ed. Thank heavens someone is up to something interesting. Otherwise we’d have nothing but infomercials of Ed selling off his name and legacy piece by piece so that he can make a few more millions to throw on the pile.
Frankly I’m glad there’s some new MUSIC to get excited about. I hope this album kicks as and gives people something to cheer about. Long-suffering VH fans deserve nothing less! (Even the ones that just want to complain…you deserve it too! Given how good this project looks I suspect this should have you tied up in knots for months! You’ll love it!)

Thanks VHND! I appreciate the news on Sammy and Michael as former members of VH. There has been no actual news about NEW MUSIC from VH in years, so I enjoy all the stories on classic albums and old interviews on the VHND. The only complaint I have is the people on here take every article and turn it into a Dave vs Sammy battle. Last time I checked Eddie (who is the main influence in VH) was present in both eras. So thanks again and keep the Chickenfoot news coming. It’s probably the only new music from a present or former VH member that is going to come out for quite a while.

These kind of bands where they lump ex-players with ex-players never amount to much. Age and creativity buck with raw originality. I’ll bet you Odrama’s stimulus package they put out 1 or 2 albums and then break off.
Joe is a good guitar player, heard all his albums, a few good rocking pieces but he never did anything that was unique. In a way he sounds like a guitar teacher playing gigs in the evening. Sammy gets tiring to listen to after a while. Mike is just a party bass player. This Chad guy, don’t know him, won’t formulate an opinion.

SKUTCH…you are 100% accurate about Satch, Sam, & Mikey also having sold their name as Eddie has by making almost everything but EVH underwear.
I think because new material or touring has been so extremely rare from Ed in the past decade (2 tours and 3 news songs…with Sam…and no I don’t count porno music!)
My point is that you are correct. I wish Ed would put as much effort into music as he does portioning himself out in small packets.

and i also love the ” sammy-sux” crowd just cant stop reading about him. i bet EVERY new sammy article is heavilay discussed at roth-army and ddlr forums!!! if you want to know whats going on with sammy hagar- just check any site dedicated to david lee roth . hell, sammy could close ” redrocker ” and there’d still be plenty of “dave-rules” sites that would cover hagar comprehensively.
its also interesting to hear the whining and moaning and crying about sammy coverage on a VH ( aaaaaaannnnnd VH-RELATED site ). sheesh! when VH was van hagar it covered roth solo. when it was Vh3 it covered hagar and roth. now its VHIV and it covers cherone and hagar. its even handed. sometimes when you get to a grown-up , you actually learn to look at things with a sense of balance ( oops ! sorry to use that word ) , with a sense of completeness.
the story of VH wont be over til they are all dead. so in the meantime we keep an eye on the alumni.

Good music is good music, no matter who is making it.
I can guarantee one thing, Chickenfoot will be better than anything Van Halen releases this year, as of course another year will pass without Van Halen releasing anything. If they cannot get it together enough to release a live DVD/CD, then there is little hope for anything else.

Jim, I bash those who bash EDVH . I could care less about lame ass facts, what EDVH is selling blah blah blah etc.. You know what I mean? Love EDVH or Hate EDVH - but don’t come to a site that is here because of EDVH and then bash him!!! (Hear that posers???) Classic VH is the best, but I do listen to other types of artists like most of you do, Sammy, AC/DC, Aerosmith, OZZY, Black Sabbath, The Who, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, UFO, Steve Miller, The Stones etc……..I did bash on the loud video because it wasn’t that loud!!! Look dude I could rattle on here for days but I won’t bore you with my BS. I always have cold beer and a packed bong for guests who party at the club house with me and some of my friends.

I am glad for Sammy and Mikey…I used to go see Sammy back in the days when he had a red Trans Am onstage…good times and a great concert…He pays attention to his fans….That’s what a gracious and intelligent Musician does for his fans ..period….All the people who say things like ” Ed never promised you anything” or ” Stop whining…they’ll make music when they feel like it”….You sirs are severely misguided people who must believe That when you make your fortune off your fans they are losers who have no lives because they want to SPEND THEIR MONEY on your product….Must be hard to breath with your heads up your own arses.

The Van Halen’s are in their 50’s, Hagar in his 60’s. When was the last time the Stones put our a relevant song? Who cares, my point is that they are filling stadiums and we go to see all these old time bands because we enjoy what they have done in the past.
If you are a real VH fan of the Roth era or Hagar era or both you go to the shows and enjoy some good rock and roll. I hope the Chickenfoot album is great,if you like Sam and Mike buy it and enjoy a summer tour. I hope VH puts out a great album too and tours again. If neither album is what we expect so what, go enjoy the live show. 24 years of Roth vs Hagar, VH vs Roth, VH vs Hagar, Mike vs Wolfie. Shut up and enjoy the music while they are still making it.

This is one of the first rock and roll projects I’ve been excited about in years. Original songs coming from artists we grew up with and familiar proven classics to look forward hearing at the up and coming tour. Win, Win!

Geez, I don’t get the people who keep saying “sammy haters”. It’s nothing personal. I’ve heard Sammy is a cool, down to earth dude, but I just don’t like his music. Do I have to? I’m not being close minded or non-musical, Dave. What a lame thing to say.
I liked ED on keys in 1984, however, I didn’t like ED on keys in 5150, etc or VH3. Not because I’m close minded, but the music sucked. Is it that hard to understand? I realize this is just my opinion, but I’d rather ED wait ANOTHER 10 years for something good than another VH3’s.
I’m with Sammyvanroth, I love the passion on this site too. I laugh every time I read these comments. EVH underwear would probably be too much for my blood anyway.

I went to In N Out Burger, and saw Erick picketing in the parking lot. He had a distraught look on his face with tears streaming, and held a sign that read:
Q: What’s the name of this restaurant?
A: In N Out BURGER
Q: Then why does it also sell fries and shakes?
A: I dunno.
At least the other customers had a good time laughing at him while they were enjoying their burgers, fries, and shakes.
He also recently found out that Victoria’s Secret sells more than secrets, and he’s quite upset. I think he and Myron plan to write angry letters and sign petitions over that one as well. Good luck with that guys! It’s a good thing the world has people like you who make sure that companies and websites stay true to their names - outstanding work, you guys!
CF in ‘09 and VH in ‘10! I wish both bands the best on their upcoming albums and tours!

(yawn) im just kinda sick hearing about ChickenFoot. big bloody deal, Sammy keeps making music with Michael, wowy gee what a super group! Chad is an ‘okay’ drummer, and Satch is a technical genius, yet soulless guitarist.
just sounds like an even more average line-up of Sammy’s solo band.
and i know im gonna get the “well..GOSH! atleast Sammy is putting out music for us fans!” and thats all fine and good, but really, when was the last time Sammy released anything decent? his solo albums have sucks, and the last few years of VanHagar sucked (excluding Humans Being, which rocked) so dont give me that crap! id rather have no music than 15 years of throw-away trash

I’m fairly new to posting to this site. I’ve watched it for awhile and finally decided I had to say something a month or so ago.
All I ever see on here is “why is Sammy stuff on here”? Why is Mikey stuff on here? If EVH, Alex or wolfie were sharing information or swag, it would be on here - but they aren’t.
I love Van Halen. I love Sammy Hagar. That’s why I come to this site. To hopefully see info and cool stuff to buy for either one. Nobody said that this is “Current Van Halen News Desk”. In many ways, where VH is at in their success is also due in large part to former Van Halen members, especially Mikey and Sammy helped too.
Chickenfoot will rock and will be an amazing concert. Anyone who doesn’t think these guys are talented doesn’t appreciate good music.

pushcomestoshove i think we got off on the wrong foot, i believe we all got the 411 on their schedule: ed is getting married wolfie has to graduate and dave is up to who knows what and al is well if you know drummers, just plain ole beating things with a stick. thats all the info there is. if you know this band their motto was no news is good news. Trust me a man like ed is not stopping writing music he just is a private person and doesn’t like the spotlight too much. Sammy loves the spotlight loves talking as most singers do which is why i’m surprised that we haven’t heard a peep from dave. anyway hope all is well with you and guess what i got a new cracker jack box and in it was my diploma! ha ha your just jealous that you dont have one! Take care buddy!

I am sick and tired of people bashing Michael Anthony! He was just as much a part of Van Halen as Ed, Al, Dave, & Sammy. Whatever he does is and should be NEWS on VHND. He never did anything to deserve the rotten treatment from Ed. Just enjoy what little we do get from all of these guys and live and let live!

whatever it’s stil just sammy. dont get me wrong i loved him on 5150 and loved him on 0u812 but after that i loved him less each album. which brings us to now……i really think he’s a boring musician. it will help having satch in the line up and i love me some M.A but thats all this project has going. i dont see satch writing any material that has any redeeming value. other then some good solo’s. what we need is for VH to put a new one out and hope the “different stuff” ED keeps talking about that he has written isnt anything like “how many say i” although does anyone else agree josephina was a pretty kick ass tune?

No matter what, EVERY person on this page has my undying respect. NO BAND has made it harder to be a loyal fan than VH. Let’s face it, they’ve done everything they could to piss off fans of EVERY era.
Ahhhhh…but we love that stuff nonetheless…
Enjoy the CF album…because to hear Eddie tell it, the next album is not going to be VH from the seventies or eighties…it’s going to be more like the experimental stuff from VHIII, and Dave’s probably going to be more like the Dave from “Your Filthy Little Mouth”.
And in the end, it will give us all something to cheer or complain about. It will be debated endlessly.
…and I’ll be right there to buy it! Why? A little VH is better than no VH at all.
…and that’s also what will make Chickenfoot so interesting for me too! It will be really interesting to see with this cast of characters will come up with.
I bet it will be really cool, but who knows?
I can’t wait to hear some strange new beast roar for the first time! (…especially since I’m still missing Velvet Revolver!)

…even III is better than silence. I think there’s some good to everything. If “III” had of been called an EVH solo album, people would have seen the positive side of it.
What sinks III, besides the bad blood left over from 2 impressive eras, is that it just wasn’t VH. What was worse, Ed was trying to force Gary to be Sammy. It’s like trying to put a blonde wig on your brunette girlfriend to pretend you’re with someone different than you are.
There’s some good in everything though, and had III been a solo album, perhaps EVH would have gotten his demons out in a more productive sense, and people would have received it better…because you’ve got a lot to live up to when you slap “VH” on something…
Ditto for “Chinese Democracy”…had Axl called it “Axl’s Roses” perhaps it would have been viewed differently and appreciated for what it is…rather than what it wasn’t.
The similarities between Ed and Axl are actually quite striking…one is paralyzed by his insecurities and addictions, and the other by his “Howard Hughes-like” obsessive compulsive disorder. Can you imagine these 2 in a studio together?

If you want VH news go to their home page,it seems pretty obvious that this site is dedicated to anyone who had something to do with Van Halen (Minus Gary Cherone, an oversight I’m sure) Get over yourselves, remember that these guys have lives outside of making music, its not the only thing that they have to do. As we get older more responsibilties come into play. I for one am not so shallow that I need new VH music to get me through the coming days, if that is what you need then you need to look at yourself and wonder what it is you think they owe you! They didn’t promise any such thing, good things come to those who wait! There is more to life than Van Halen, trust me when they come back it will be awesome, do you really think that eddie has stopped writing music? If so you are really out of the loop of what a man who made his living writing songs does! Chill it will happen!
