UH OH. I ordered my new/old VAN HALEN LION TEE SHIRT and I am starting to think that this CHICKENFOOT thing is serious. The sound clip is nasty, dirty and damn good. What do the VAN HALEN brothers have in retaliation? I hope they enlist some new blood and inject some songwriting magic that can be awesome. I know what Dave will write BEFORE he writes it so I implore the brothers to bring in some NEW IDEAS wherever they may originate from and knock the shit out of the music industry. NOBODY will beat EDS music, nobody, so add some cool new tunes and maybe even find an “underdog” writer who can add to the VH magic..Think ROCKY and find something nobody thought would go the distance..MAKE IT GOOD.EXPLORE ALL OPTIONS …
February 19th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
This will kick ass!!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:09 pm
You’re right Ed needs to grow a nut sack and go for it. This bullshit of it may not be what people are exspecting and bang your head against the wall stuff. If its not gonna be what people want then why do it. Don’t give me I’m a pure musican crap cause if Ed was he would of had new music instead of doing a 3/4 reunion tour and same old tunes. Ed this shit isn’t that hard to get right, quit whining cause nobody feels sorry for a millionaire rock guitar legend who whines and talks smack about other people but hasn’t done shit for the past 11 years! Well I hope Ed does deliver and shuts people like me up but I doubt it
February 19th, 2009 at 10:16 pm
Dave rules!
February 19th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
This sounds pretty damn good so far but What is Chickenfoot anyways? I dunno!!! As for Ed in regards to the New Music with Roth, I hope it ain’t the same kinda crap like those last two songs they did in 1996 Best of Volume 1 or like Van Halen 3 with Cherone cause that was some pretty weak shit. I too hope that Ed, Dave, Wolf and Al Delivers and shuts Big J up.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
sounds like sam, mike, joe and chad are having some fun. ed and the VH boys should do the same. don’t take it so seriously. music is to entertain and put a smile on peoples faces. long live VH and can’t wait to see chickenfoot live….
February 19th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
I will wait and see what this sound like. The snips sound good but how dose the album sond. I hope the album is as good as the snips.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Joe, Sammy, Mike, and Chad - can’t wait for April, so how about a single or two on itunes to tide us over?? Glad you’re getting some exposure on VHND, but how about giving us more on your own site? I’m very excited for this - the only news worth reading that VHND has had all year. (unless you count Eddie saying that his feud with DLR never happened - that was news to me
Chickenfoot is looking/sounding like the real deal, but I’ll reserve complete judgment until I’ve heard the album. Good luck you guys! (been a huge Satch fan since I saw him back in 1990 on the Flying in a Blue Dream tour, just a year before I saw VH for the first time on their For Unlawlful tour. Great times! And it looks like there’ll be more great times on the road coming up…
February 19th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
I didn’t like “You Can’t Get This Stuff No More” much at all, but I LOVED “Me Wise Magic”; It seemed like a perfect progression of where VH should have been had they picked up where they left off; I KNOW they can do it if they try, but Ed’s stuff he wrote for that porno film was WEAK guitar noodling…
February 20th, 2009 at 2:16 am
I don’t think Chickenfoot and Van Halen will have anything in common as far as sound. The only thing in common is that Sam and Mike were in Van Halen. I hope Chickenfoot sounds like something other than Van Halen. Four very talented musicians got together and made some cool tunes. And I hope they will be. Sam and Mike are out of Van Halen. Might as well face it and move on. I am looking forward to Chickenfoot and new Van Halen. I think VH with Roth will be worth the wait. Just don’t pull a “Guns n’Roses” and take 14+ years Ed. LOLOLOL!
February 20th, 2009 at 2:40 am
The clips sound fantastic! I’m gagging for this. But “What is Chickenfoot?”? What genius came up with that crap? We already know exactly what Chickenfoot is. A little worrying that the band themselves don’t seem to know! lol
February 20th, 2009 at 5:37 am
Eddie & Dave: Old and Busted.
Sammy & Co: New and Shiny.
February 20th, 2009 at 6:09 am
What a great lineup Chickenfoot has! You cannot go wrong with Satriani and Anthony. Looks like 09 will shape up to be a great music year for VH Fans if Eddie and the boys can get together and start popping out some new tunes. By the way - I love this site!
February 20th, 2009 at 7:31 am
It sounds good until Sammy starts singing - and of course the lyrics are brain damaged. The very first clip woth singing and its dumn lyrics.
Personally, I just hate Sammy’s voice. I know technically he’s a capable singer - but I just don’t like his voice, it grinds my ears.
The rest of th erecording does sound good, I’ll give you that. Nice production - very full and live sounding.
Got A Band
Got A Plan (play?)
Drum all night
And Rock and Roll all day
yeah, yeah
Can’t 4 guys come up with something better than that?
February 20th, 2009 at 7:32 am
Sorry - forgot that Chickenfoot repitition atthe beginning is really annoying and stupid.
February 20th, 2009 at 8:28 am
Good thing about Chickenbutt is that Sammy is not in Van Halen.
February 20th, 2009 at 8:41 am
So far both samples sound better then anything Sam has put out in the past 3-4 years. Sounds like the tunes are gonna be bad ass. I actually dig the new logo too.
Too be honest im not partial to either Dave or Sam……However I was def. let down when I saw them in concert last year. Of course Ed had his “medical” problem a week after the concert.
February 20th, 2009 at 9:52 am
to famac,, before you call something “dumn” make sure you have spellcheck first …. you must be in DLR Army ,,whatever that is…
February 20th, 2009 at 10:22 am
If any of you poser’s can do better than Dave and Sammy, Than do so. If not, shut up and enjoy the tunes!!! That’s what it’s about - THE MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 20th, 2009 at 10:56 am
well said.
February 20th, 2009 at 11:22 am
What is Chickenfoot? I dunno.
Haha now that’s the way to do it - with a smile. The music sample sounded great! Can’t wait to see what they do live!
February 20th, 2009 at 11:43 am
I’m totally not bashing this band or Sammy, but seriously, this is the Van Halen news desk and I’m not really interested in Chickenfoot news. I can understand that most days are probably slow VH news days, but I’d rather not hear anything than see another band, regardless of who is in it, get free airtime from this site.
February 20th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
This site serves as a nexus for anything VH related, current AND alumni members. If we ONLY had VH news here, not even merchandise, then there would only be the recent updates regarding VH’s recording future posted in the past few weeks,
The rest of the year, there WAS NO NEWS.
Imagine if this site didn’t exist? They don’t post anything with great frequency on that either. Redrocker.com has updates all the time.(He actually cares about his fans)
Nothing on DLRARMY.com or van-halen.com for months or years at a time!
Keep up the good work VHND!
~JJ
February 20th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
Proud of Chickenfoot… all you guy’s for putting it together.
You can’t go wrong with Joe. Mike looks bad ass !
PS. I had my pic taken with Joe S. in I think 96 0r 97 but the camera crapped out. Good thing he sighned my double cd of his.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
What a stupid F’ing name, Chickenfoot? Come on, I was praying it was just a working title. I can’t believe these rock legends settled on such a stupid F’ing name, all momentum straight out the window before one note is heard. With a name like Planet Us they maybe could have ruled the World, now they get to rule the farm. Corny, corny, corny. New VH will certainly blow it out of the water. This will just be cornball funk rock with sick guitar work, I’ll probably buy it, but the new VH will blow it away guaranteed! Sorry Mike and Sam, you guys do rule.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
Why is this a ’supergroup’? It’s just half of Van Hagar (and not the best half…). Then there’s Joe Satriana; okay, he’s an excellent guitar player (huge chance next year Chickenband sues the Rolling Stones for stealing one of their tunes). And then there’s the drummer from the RHCP. Overall I’m not impressed at all.
The music sounds nice and crisp; good production. Too bad that there’s this singer too. Could pretty much be a boring cd.
I can’t imagine that this cd will make us Van Halen fans forget “VH1″ or “1984″.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:58 pm
I really don’t understand why people complain about new rock music at this point. Too many people are living in 1984. Open yourself up to new ideas…..this may be…..just could be a great cd. I have been listening to Satriani’s music lately and he is an incredible guitar player.
Unfortunately VH hasn’t put out a “good” cd since 95-96. That’s well over 10 years. I gave up on them several years ago. It was great to see them last year …. but still dissapointing.
This is my own opinion…..Sammy is for his fans. Eddie lost focus somewhere along the line and allowed greed and LGD (Lead guitarist disease) to ruin VH. He did it not only once….but with two great singers. Look at the hall of fame induction…….. That was a slap in the face to all the fans that have followed them thru the years.
Im just happy that good rock is back and the rap/hip hop era is slowly fading away. I hated the late 90’s and early 00’s.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Sounds cool, always been into Joe Satriani and Chili Peppers, of course I know all eras of VH quite well even though I prefer the much better VH with Dave era.
As for people who know what Dave is gonna write, or old and busted, they sure killed every other band out there in North America for touring sales (other bands if you subtract their out of north america dates are about the same or less than Van halen) even Hannah Cashcow Montana, can’t tell me that lyrics written by Sammy aren’t something you’d expect from Sammy, or Chili Peppers from the Peppers, Pumpkins from the Pumpkins, Beatles from the Beatles. Everyone has their own style.
If Dave doesn’t write his stuff it won’t be original Van Halen, and I can guarantee it will obliterate almost every genres biggest star in sales within minutes. Bring back every band possible, come out with 50 cent + Kanye West versus Van Halen and Van Halen will win. Something they’d never be able to do with Sammy, they went from being “uncool” (quote from Sammy and Ed) in 2004, to being cool and having a concert of all 20-somethings mostly give a huge thumbs up to something they’ve never seen before. I saw kids 12-19 all with their jaws dropped after the show, never saw that at Van Hagar 2004. Everyone cheered twice as loud for Jump, Panama, and Dave era tunes than Sammy tunes, nobody even knew them they felt like they got jipped out of their money.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
awsomeeeeeeeeeeee
February 20th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
BlindBubbaCheeks, If you only want to read news of the current band then VHND probably isn’t right for you, as it is a site that covers VH alumni news as well. Who are you to tell the creators of this site what they can or can’t post? If you don’t like it, don’t come here. I’m sure there’s a site out there that covers news of the current line-up only, so go find it. Or if you can’t find one you like then maybe you could start your own. It wouldn’t be hard to manage - you’d only have to update it once a decade.
The service that VHND provides is to give us the news of people involved with VH past and present so that those who are interested can get the scoop on everybody in one place, without having to go to VH’s website, DLR’s site, Sammy’s site, Mike’s site, etc. This is a great service for those of us who do like to keep up with everybody, and there’s plenty of us that come here for this reason. If you don’t like the service provided, again, don’t come here. Simple concept, my friend.
February 20th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Hey you poser’s - be like ER, enjoy the current news and the music!!! Mellow out poser’s!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 20th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Sounds good. The music buiness needs this type of music. Wheter it this or any form of Van Halen.
By the way, when did Will Ferrell play drums? More cowbell!!!!
February 20th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
to vanhalendlrband,
I saw the 2004 tour as well, and the reason why they were uncool was because EVH was fucking wasted for the whole year and had to be carried throughout the whole tour. Dont mess with the facts. 2004 sucked caused EVH sucked and did everything he could to railroad that tour when he couldnt get his way. As far as VH2009 outselling everything? Well that aint true, cause they have fucked over their loyal fanbase that much that there isnt many left to care these days. You cannot compare them to current day Acdc, Maiden or U2. They care about their fans and it shows. The dysfuntional brothers dont give fuck, but only when it comes to the green.
February 20th, 2009 at 8:46 pm
Gotta say with all the crap music on the scene now its good to hear rock-n-roll. Can’t wait for the ALBUM from anybody from the past, when rock was fun.
February 20th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
All you idiots need to chill out
February 20th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Sammy has the nicest & whitest TEETH !!
February 21st, 2009 at 6:41 am
Having picked up a guitar at the age of 12 because of Eddie Van Halen this is huge to see the current best guitar player on the planet joining forces with three awesome guys and oh yeah great musicians. I have high hopes for this project and so far it sounds great.
I agree with everyone else that it would be really nice if EVH could slap down some new sober riffs. The past is just that and the future is unknown and right now he isn’t doing anything except pushing new products, maybe he is more into retail business than music. It’s amazing in the old days they could record an album in 7 days do a world tour take a week off and back to the studio complete an album in 10 days and hit the road again but now, 11 years, I guess maybe days are years now.
Hats off to VHND for all the work you do, it is greatly appreciated!
February 21st, 2009 at 8:03 am
Maybe Van Halen are working in dog years! lol!
February 21st, 2009 at 8:50 am
SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME OLE VAN HAGAR SHIT TO ME ! ME WISE MAGIC & CANT GET THIS STUFF NO MORE KICKED ASS BETTER THAN ANY THING SAMMY BUFFET EVER DID!
February 21st, 2009 at 9:19 am
me wise magic and gcant get this stuff no more kicked ass? please. Dave couldn’t even hit the high notes during the recording like he used to be able to. his voice was shot.
Go on, keep bashing vh singers if you want. Dave, Sam and Gary (for that brief time you didn’t give him a chance) all did their own things. Dave was perfect for his time since it was the 70s and 80s when disco was somewhat alive and starting to fail. But showmanship and arena tours were the norm and Dave could perform. Sammy is more of the songwriter and all around musician and he helped put together a string of hits that would make anyone envious. Gary brought a deeper songwriting ability into the mix and his tunes were thought provoking. That’s what he did on Waiting for the Punchline and Extreeme 3.
I agree with everyone who said Ed is greedy and shameless. He has no loyalty to anyone other than the green and maybe his brother and son. If he can stay sober enough to write new ablums with the current line up it may be interesting, but I’m not holding my breath. You have to admire Sammy’s work ethic and the fact that he has put out albums since his departure from VH and so has Gary. Dave’s solo days were done in the 80s. His second band wasn’t as good as the EAS band with Vai et. al. Oh, and btw Satriani trained Vai. Why get the student when you can get the master.
February 21st, 2009 at 9:21 am
So many angry people out there. If ya want only Van Halen news go Van-Halen.com. Only Sammy news, go to Redrocker.com, ect…
If ya want to celebrate one of the best bands ever (in all it’s incarnations) then this site rules. Let’s be honest all era’s of VH had shining moments and all era’s had low points.
Let’s just be happy that Sammy and Mike are doing something way cool with two unbelievable musicians. Possible new music with Ed and Dave. It sounds like alot of people just rip Sammy and Mike because they are pissed off that VH is not doing anything, while Sam continually tours and puts out music. VH RULES!!! Let’s be happy that they are all alive and still ROCKIN!!!! VH FOREVER!!!
February 21st, 2009 at 10:38 am
Personally, I love the Chickenfoot line-up. I hope the project turns out great and I hope VH releases something new by the end of the year. Then I’ll hold out hope for the greatest concert ever if they would tour together. Chickenfoot opening for Van Halen. VH could do a couple of Van Hagar tunes with Sammy and Mike. Mike could play a couple of tunes with Dave and the guys. Holy shit it would be crazy. DLR probably wouldn’t mind since they’d be getting top billing the whole time. Satriani and Ed would probably never share the stage together, but that would absolutely rule too. Who knows? I can dream can’t I?
February 21st, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I agree with Phil, VH with Roth should just have fun and loosen up. Not only is music about having fun but that’s what VH was about with Roth…fun, loose, and raw. That’s what attracted me to the music, not like the overly processed, over manipulated stuff they did with VanHagar…even though they did have some decent music without DLR, it wasn’t Van Halen…I think that we all agree on.
February 21st, 2009 at 3:23 pm
This is annoying, I lost interest. I hope the VHND removes the sound.
February 22nd, 2009 at 1:26 am
I have no problem with the posting. Sammy was a part of Van Halen for at least 10 years. When David was the solo artist this website kept current about his activities. I think it is appropriate to do the same for Sam. Plus consider that Sam is actually making music. Van Halen has not put anything out music wise in 10 years, except for 3 songs with Sammy for the 2004 tour.
I think it is disappointing that people still feel the need to bash Sammy. I know that I am in the minority on this board, but I preferred Van Halen with Sammy, then under Roth. I respect Roth’s stuff, and enjoy listening to it whenever possible, I thought Van Halen sounded more like a band with Hagar. With Roth, it felt like a minstrel show. The Sammy era produced a lot of great songs that people love. The biggest mistake of the 2007 tour with Roth was to ignore all of Sammy’s stuff. It felt like a timewarp of guys stuck in the past.
I hope EVH and the rest of the boys can come up with some rocking new material that does not sound like recycled Van Halen. I hope that Sammy does well with Chickenfoot, though bands by this nature don’t last beyond 1 or 2 albums. Whichever way its goes, good luck to all of them.
February 22nd, 2009 at 2:24 pm
HEY JOE,THEY DIDNT PLAY ANY SAMMY SONGS FOR A GOOD REASON.I AGREE WITH STEW,ME WISE MAGIC WAS BETTER THAN ANY SONG FROM ANTHING SAMMY HAS EVER DONE.IF THE NEW CD SOUNDS ANYTHING LIKE ME WISE MAGIC, I SAY WOW!SAMMY WAS OK, DONT GET ME WRONG,BUT HE BELONGS RIGHT WHERE HE IS. ITS ONLY FITTING THAT DAVE IS THE FRONTMAN FOR THE NUMBER ONE BAND ON THE PLANET.DAVE STARTED VH,AND HE WILL FINISH IT , IN STYLE.
February 22nd, 2009 at 2:30 pm
DAVE DEFINITELY BRINGS OUT SOMETHING IN EDS GUITAR PLAYING THAT SAMMY DID NOT.EVEN THOUGH I LIKED THE 5150 CD,IT SOUNDED TO ME ALOT LIKE SAMMY WAS TRYING TO COPY SOME OF DAVES VOCALS. ANYONE AGREE? ALSO I REALLY LIKED THE DRUMS ON 5150, WISH ALEX WOULD BRING THEM BACK FOR THE NEW CD.
February 22nd, 2009 at 4:13 pm
I told you all. Theres only one way to rock. Thanks again Sammy. Rock on Bro. Cant wait till the tour. I will be in the front row!!!!!!!!!!!
February 22nd, 2009 at 5:54 pm
Hey FAMAC!!
Amen bro!! You nailed it right on!! I said the same thing when the Chickenfoot teaser 1st came out. The band sounded tight yet the moment Sammy joined in with those predictable and middle of the road lyric’s/singing he just destroyed it!!! Sammy’s the weakest link in the band!!!! Can you imagine if a David Coverdale or Dio putting their art to that? WOW! Now we’re talking!!
Diamond Dave and Van Halen stand the test of time, they’re raw, dirty, push the boundaries, break and make new rules, no bullshit just pure brutal ROCK!! If Eddie’s hinting that “it’s not what you’d expect” then it’s the SECOND COMING!!!! FUCK YEAH!!! Give it to me, hit me right between the eyes!!!
It takes years to soak up every moment in Van Halen’s music, yet I still discover new little jems in their music!!! What these Sammy lovers don’t GET! is Dave enriches and brings out of Eddie and the band a certain sound, style, magic, always something new, but most important Dave vocals is the only vocal that can speak with Eddie’s guitar!! FACT!!!! The thing that these Sammy lovers don’t want to admit is Dave has experimented far more than Van Halen and Sammy put together, yeah sure he hasn’t sold as many records like he did with his 1st 3 solo albums but I got more respect for the man for having the guts to do it, instead of Sammy always playing (corporate!) safe!!!
Dave = A true Rock n’ Roller
Sammy = A corporate slut!!!
All I can say is I wish I was a fly on the walls of 5150 so I can see and hear the magic return to Van Halen!!!
February 22nd, 2009 at 6:04 pm
i hear KFC has chickenfoot on its menu.1 to go please.hold the mayo.xtra claw.
February 23rd, 2009 at 2:09 am
nothing to do with van halen, why are they on here
February 23rd, 2009 at 6:28 am
Jay you got nothing to do with Van Halen, so why where you here??????????????
February 23rd, 2009 at 7:30 am
Hey I love “Can’t get this stuff no more”, but I admit it isn’t much of a VH song. Who knows what they will come out with? Remember back when VHagar came out with “Why can’t this be love” and Dave hit us with “Yankee Rose? I think Dave took that won by a landslide, so hold your water and see what happens.
February 23rd, 2009 at 10:32 am
Sorry, I respect Van Halen during the 1st David Lee Roth era. Running with the Devil and Unchained are great songs. But to call Dave a true rock n roller is far from the truth. After he left the band, Dave became a parody of himself. Dave was alway more about style, rather than substance. You only have to watch the VH1 documentary Rage Beyond the Stage to see that between the two, Sammy had more of a Rock N Roll substance to him than Dave’s flash. The only reason Dave is relevant today is because the band took him back. If Eddie didn’t brng him back, Dave would still be a failed Vegas lounge singer and failed radio host whose best days were before 1990. Musically, Van Halen was more of a band with Sammy. It wasn’t Eddie having to save Dave’s loopy lyrics with his guitars, or an album flled with cover songs (Diver Down). They were a band with great songs that many fans would still love to hear. I look forward to what Van Halen will come out with if they decide to do another album with Dave, and I am excited to see what Chickenfoot sounds like. As I said before, I wish both sides well.
February 23rd, 2009 at 10:51 am
Why the fuck can’t a Van Halen fan like Sammy & Roth??
Sure, you can prefer one over the other, but doesn’t everyone on the planet have a VH CD/MP3 on their car cranking the tune up as far is it can go??
I crank the tune up, no matter which song/singer it is!!
The only choice is which song is LOUDer? Drop Dead Legs or Don’t Tell Me(what love can do) or 50 other awesome tunes!
I love ‘em all!!
~JJ
February 23rd, 2009 at 12:48 pm
Been a Sammy fan since I heard Montrose. Been a VH fan since I heard VH1. VHIII sucked from the word go. Sammy is like a the Energizer battery. Ed is now the best t-shirt salesman ever!!!!! How bout some music???? “Right Now” you have a better chance of getting a new or vintage t-shirt from VH than any new music.
February 23rd, 2009 at 4:10 pm
Chickenfoot may turn out to be something really cool. A stellar line-up with Chad, Joe and Mike. Nothing against Sammy really, but a different lead singer would have been the way to go. Sammy’s lyrics make me want to change the station. I just can’t listen to him anymore. I hope I am proven wrong.
February 23rd, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Joe pretty much sums up how I feel about Dave, Sammy, VH, Chickenfoot, etc. Both incarnations of the band had greatness as well as flaws. As much as I love VH with Dave, he’s a sideshow clown without Eddie. Sammy may never write as good of music as he did with VH, but there’s no denying he’s doing all right without Van Halen.
What people seem to forget in this whole, silly, Dave vs. Sammy soap opera is Eddie Van Halen as the pivot point. The band revolves around his ego and his whims more than anyone or anything else.
And say what you will about Sammy, but at least he’s out there producing new music. The most frustrating thing about VH is Halley’s Comet has a better chance of making a visit than seeing a new album of original VH music.
February 23rd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
A true Van Halen fan will support any band that has Michael Anthony on bass!
February 23rd, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Sounds great thus far.
Excellent group of musicians!
At least these people get shit together and do it!
Satriani, Hagar and Anthony are always jamming and playing small venues…constantly and consistantly.
Does anybody do that anymore???
I hope they play every little shitty venue across North America and give people an intimate show!
Keep it going guys and tell your fellow musician friends to do the same!
Oh, and Joe…sue Coldplay for every cent you can get out of them!
February 23rd, 2009 at 8:32 pm
As far as people’s jaws being dropped for that Van Halen tour last year, I think its because they couldnt believe they payed that muched for the over mixed mess of noise to drown out Daves voice. I went to the show it was good and neat to see but I couldnt tell one song from the next until you got Jump. Dave cant sing and they had to cover him up. Seen sam and Dave multiple times each and once on the same night. You cant compare the two period. Jesus there goes 5 minutes of my life again. What a waste.
Have fun folks.
February 24th, 2009 at 6:34 am
hope ed and co. put out some new tunes…..been waiting since 84…5 for this crap to stop, they make such kickass music and having to put up with sound-a-like vh people is frustrating! tora tora……hear about it later, secrets(highly underated song)Edward can ride the screaming edge of a knives blade on guitar…but can find a tone/frequncy that is a bachish/motesart in the field of MUSIC. the real stuff that WE all love and know!thank god for wolfie, he’ll hopefully carry on the music for all of us to enjoy.Just 2 cents from an older die hard fan that listens to VAN HALEN everyday!!!! no BS,YOU GUYS have rode alot of miles with me through the years and I THANK YOU!!! I’M done keep rockin!
February 24th, 2009 at 6:39 am
wonder if they read this stuff????
February 24th, 2009 at 9:07 am
I used to believe in this whole “brotherhood” that Ed always has to mention and used to love all the music no matter which “brother” was singing. Each member had their own personality that brought a greatness to this band. Wolfie is great but Mike will be missed. After seeing the last 2 tours… I think I’m done. All I see is the Ed show and for me the magic is gone. I keep looking at these sites hoping to see that old magic. I think that’s what it is -old. I know not all stays the same, but I just don’t see anything new. I wish these guys would have worked through their issues and egos to keep the train rolling throughout the years. Thank God Metallic was able to push through their pains and come out blazing. I can only hope the same for VH.

i prefer vh with roth but can’t stand the bitching about roth vs hagar thing. if roth and hagar fans wanna be upset at anyone it should be ed and al. sammy had nothing to do with dave leaving van halen. i’m not a big hagar fan but can understand the fact that classic vh fans dislike like him due to the fact that vh succeeded without roth. remember the grunge scene and recession in the early 90’s? vh with sammy kept going strong and sold out shows when most other acts had a hard time filling in arenas. this shows the van hagar era was relevant and successful. classic vh is back and sam is having a great time doing his thing. more power to them both! just enjoy it all people!

i think a lot of VH fans resent ” MWM ” and ” CGTSNM ” because the music was written for sammy as post-balance van hagar. personally i think both of those tunes kick @$$.
Vh3 had a …. couple excellent tracks, but NO dicipline or focus, limited production value- just ed being ” in charge “.
BOBW tracks were basically a quick phone-it-in that even sam has backpeddled from. the failure of van hagar 2004 was 90% ed’s drinking . alex vh wanted to keep sam in for 05/06 recording but ed fell off the planet.
CVH fans resent sammy for being able to do whatever he wants .
chickenfoot will probably seriously kick ass.

K-Mac,
Amen brother. I get tired of reading how Dave is better than Sammy. Dave left Van Halen high and dry, and Sammy came in and took the band and made them #1. Dave is a circus clown who needs Van Halen. Sammy doesn’t need Van Halen before he joined and after he was fired.
I get from people that Dave is a god amongst singers, but really? I can scream and go low when I sing, but can Dave hit a high note if his balls were in a vice? No he couldn’t. Dave’s style was a simple style that was tailored around Eddie’s guitar. Eddie had to play higher around Sammy’s voice to keep up. Eddie has said that in the press and it’s true.
With that being said, Van Halen is no more. Eddie ruined this band with his ego and alcohol abuse. His own kid has to remind him on how to play?
And Kris?
How come Warner Brothers dropped Van Halen off it’s label? Was it because they weren’t a success? No that’s not it. They dropped them because Eddie and Al decided they were in “charge”. Al’s brother in law ripped them off and if it wasn’t for Sammy bringing in his manager Ed Leffler, where would Van Halen be before Sammy joined? Nowhere but a novelty act just like Dave is.
Dave is a rockstar huh? How come he became a paramedic and a radio talk show host? He failed following Stern and why is that? Because he is not a star.
Sammy is a corporate slut?
Wow on that one as well. I guess making music from Montrose until now without a break is a slut huh? What has Van Heineken done since 1996? Absolutly NOTHING! VH3 doesn’t count.
The problem is, Sammy is a musician. He plays guitar, actually sings a song with feeling, does all the writing of his songs and Van Halen tunes and puts music out. All Dave does is think he is Van Halen and look where it got him.
Now Sammy is in a band with his friends which is going to jam beyond the word. At least he puts out music all the time and tours all the time.
It’s beneath Van Halen to do small clubs and play music. They need to be an arena act that caters to them and that’s all they will be is an act.
People can say Sammy’s album sales with The Wabos are small, but at least we get an album all the time. If Sammy decided to go out on tour like Van Halen, he would sell out just like before.
There is no comparison. Sammy and Mike are about the fans and Van Halen is about god knows what? Wait, it’s about guitars, shirts from 1978-1984, and merchandise. Eddie got pissed about when Sammy and Mike were promoting thier tequila and hot sauce.
Face it people, Eddie ruined this band with an ego the size of the world. Too bad the water in his world is nothing but beer and smokes!

Agreed Jor-l. If Ed actually had his act together and wasn’t a control freak he’d be making music and Mike would be in the band. Mike isn’t a shreading base player? Please. That was all you Ed. Your ego becomes you. Dave at this point is just trying to make money while he still can. Dave was the man in his day, but times change. Nostalgia gets you only so far. Stop listening to that so called manager of yours Ed and patch things up with Sammy and Mike. I’m not saying record with them again, since you’re so inclined not to, but at least be a man and apologize to em for your drinking days and ways. I know you had cancer issues and that had a lot to do with your mindset, but to outcast people who treated you as a friend and you spit in their face is pathetic. Mike stood by you for over 30 years and you treated him like crap. Sammy helped you sell millions of records and you treated him like crap. Get the picture Ed? Do the right thing. Be a man. Apologize so you can move on. Sammy’s actually made music over the last 5 years. What have you done? Tour with Dave for a year? Brought your son Wolfgang into the band to replace an irreplaceable icon? You’ve turned the once great Van Halen into a freakish sideshow, filled with your own personal ego and vandetta fetishes. You’ve tarnished the great Van Halen reputation. You’ll be a shadow of what you once were if you ever got back to making music. You forgot about what the band is about. The fans, making music and having fun. It’s not about control and domination of others that once considered you a friend. Van Halen isn’t a functional band anymore. It’s the Edward Van Halen show. Your excuse for getting rid of Mike, ‘You can’t be in two bands.’ Please. Your other excuse, ‘He wasn’t a shreading base player, and VH was never driven by drum and base as other rock bands were.’ Please. You’re just pissed that he didn’t take your side and you have a vandetta. You’re not even listening to your own brother. Alex happens to be a voice of reason. You might want to consider his opinion and stop being such a control freak.

Honestly. Chickenfoot is not a VH copy so why be mad if 4 kick ass musicians get together and make sweet rock music? You can’t tell me you aren’t excited to hear Joe rip on something other than instrumental. It’s gonna be great.

Fuckin A man im psyched!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
February 25th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
It never made sense to me why some people would hate on Dave or Sammy so much. These people are singers in a band! It doesn’t make them good or bad people, just singers in a band. Dave left the band and a job opened up, Sammy took the job - who the hell wouldn’t? Sam’s out of the band and Gary takes the job. Again, who the hell wouldn’t. Stop the bitching about who’s better and just live in your little world of listening only to DLR or Sam, or Gary. I’m not a Gary VH fan but I’m not going to bash the guy, all he did was take a job.

Why are people still stuck on the whole Sammy Dave thing get over it move on Dave is back in so what more do you want . Just take this for what it looks like it is , a good rock act I think we could do with few more lately . People are so childish . Sure its a crap name but it has got everyone talking . If this clip is anything to go by this could be a classic .
February 27th, 2009 at 2:53 pm
The last time Sammy did anything good outside of Van Halen was with Neal Schon. Lets hope that when or if Chicken Foot tours Sammy gets rid of the Cabo Wabo stage show………can you say BAD! One last thing, does Sam have anything to sell on this tour? Maybe he can sell his own brand of Chicken Sauce!!

Also we are not on here whining about who is better and what not, we as FANS are tired of the crap that Van Halen has become. The “fans” from 1984 and before don’t want to recognize that Van Halen grew with Sammy Hagar. Here’s a solution to the problem. Why not have a reunion tour tour ith Dave and Sammy. Both versions on the same night. It would be cool but Eddie is too stupid to pull it off. Get everybody back, promote it as the biggest thing ever and rock the world. Funny thing though, it’s funny that 2 FORMER members of Van Halen accepted their Hall of Fame awards while the “REAL” members were nowhere to be found. Funny who really cares about the music and the fans. It sure the hell isn’t this Van Halen we just saw out on another “reunion” tour.

Sammy Hagar was in Van Halen? When was this? Did they ever release any albums….Well, my baby, she don’t want me around.
She said she’s tired of watchin’ me fall down.

Chickenfoot will be the shizznit. Joe Satriani is the king. I am a Steve Vai fanatic, and seems to me, he has had no problem putting out music. Vocals or no. Eddie is molding. Love him to death, but, wtf? More put it off to make more money BS. I won’t be there. But, where the Chickenfoot roams, gotta follow. Being a drrummer, Chad Smith will make this band rule. Not, taking away the talents of the magical and mighty Sammy. Long time fan, and tyhe beat and rythm of Michael anthony. the guy who put up with all the crap from the GOD brothers and the loudmouth. Can’t wait
