Chickenfoot tease
“Chickenfoot”, the code-name for the new band featuring Sammy Hagar on vocals, Michael Anthony on bass, Joe Satriani on guitar & Chad Smith on drums, has an official website!
Chickenfoot.us posted a little tease from the studio. The short audio clip is the only thing on the website so far, but it sounds very promising. Check it out!
There’s still no word on whether or not the actual band name will permanently be “Chickenfoot.” Satch was on Eddie Trunk Live last night. He said the album will be out in April & the tour will kick off in the summer!

Awesome ! Even that sound clip proves they’ll be as big as O’bama
January 21st, 2009 at 8:38 pm
Wow, ok. That does sound awesome. I hope that studio take is not a bait and switch. I hope the album somewhat sounds like that.
January 21st, 2009 at 10:21 pm
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! Talk about a summer tour. Satch on Lead Guitar and Chad (rhcps) on drums, Mikey on bass and Sammy belting out the vocals, sweeeeeeet. Sammys always busy, after collaborating with matt sorum, billy duffy, neil schon, vinnie paul and others on CUF, he changes gears once again to make sure rock and roll fans get a rockin summer tour. Theres only 1 way to rock!!!!!!!!!
January 21st, 2009 at 11:31 pm
Sound’s good, Sound’s good ! is that that new thing Sam ?! it better be ?! gotta mic that bass loud, ‘cus “this thing goes to 11″, keep that groove section pounding, bay-bee!! I ain’t never been much of a Satch fan, but hey, there’s a first time for everything; right?. I’ll be waitin’ for the tour, for some Cabi Wabi on ice !
January 22nd, 2009 at 1:55 am
HELL YEA, The clip sounds great. I have liked all the guy on there own, but now for them to be collaborating together is something extra special, I can’t wait. If this album is anything like the clip we all heard this will be one rockin’ summer!
January 22nd, 2009 at 6:12 am
I can not wait to see them!
January 22nd, 2009 at 7:30 am
I am intrested as anyone else how the music will sound, but from that small clip there is nothing to brag about. I hope soon I will hear something better…….
January 22nd, 2009 at 8:08 am
I like Joe’s solo stuff, but that riff sounds like he’s trying to copy EVH.
January 22nd, 2009 at 8:39 am
the music sounds like Dave can start singing any second
January 22nd, 2009 at 9:01 am
LOL…that’s typical. Great riff, great sound, great groove, then that horrific voice. Another great piece of music ruined buy that voice. Lets have an “over-under” on how many of the titles will have the word love in it. Somebody get me a doctor cause I’m taking my whiskey home!
January 22nd, 2009 at 9:32 am
the music sounds good
January 22nd, 2009 at 12:10 pm
I hope they got something special together and keep it going. I’m still bummed Velvet Revolver derailed.
January 22nd, 2009 at 1:20 pm
People that are comparing this to VH and making Sam vs. Dave comparisons need to move on. How long has it been now? Sam has moved on, as has Mike. Shouldn’t you? VH has given us no reason to believe they’re gonna come out with anything new, ever. Sammy has been active and giving the fans what we want. Music and shows. Get on the bus or stay home and pout. Either way, quit living in the past.
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:33 pm
LMAO. Wow, sammy lets out a 20 second snipet and all the nay sayers critique it. Lol is right. Ready to pan anything sammy does, typical shoot from the hip, i like Dave trash. Thank god you guys arent sammy fans, you would definitely bring down the good vibe surrounding sammy concerts. Stay home and wait for the reunion album. LOL
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:39 pm
I like it - has a nice ballsy, funky bottom end. Now if Sammy would just STFU and quit walking all over it…….
January 22nd, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Chickenfoot, Shmickenfoot. The new Van Halen album will kick Chickenfoot’s a&$… as soon as wolfie finishes high school… and ed gets married…. and ed finishes designing the first vaccum cleaner that “get’s it”… and al, well al’s actually ready to go… and dave, well where is dave anyway?
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:26 pm
It sounded good until the “UH”. I’m glad this singer is in Chickenwing and not in classic VH.
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:27 pm
Sammy, Sammy ,Sammy “Hey Joe is that the new thing you’ve been working on”? “Well it better be”!
Didn’t Dave START that stuff back in 78? I’m really starting to feel sorry for Sam. Here’s a guy with no identity of his own in music! People Sam wants to be!
1.Eddie Vedder- the plad years guy
2. Jimmy buffet- The flip flop, flowered shirt guy
3. Jon Bon Jovi- I’ll make a country album guy
4. David Lee Roth- I’ll talk over the guitar guy
Sammy just be Sammy! Oh that’s right you can’t, because you wouldn’t sell any concert tickets or albums!!!
Hey Satch, are your shoulders starting to feel like Ed’s used to?
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:28 pm
Nice couple of seconds, but I’ll be unable to make a judgment call on the band until I’ve heard more. (though they certainly have the potential to be fantastic) Chickenfoot, how about a single on itunes to tide us over until April?? I’m also hoping for a more developed site soon. Even if the album’s not out yet, you could at least put some bios up, or studio shots, or something.
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:34 pm
That was killer……this will be one hell of an album!!! I cant wait!!!!! KEEP ROCKIN!!!!!!!
January 22nd, 2009 at 8:27 pm
Too little of a snippet to be fair, but it doesn’t do anything for me. Sammy new album is terrible. With that said I like all the Van Hagar albums…the only tracks that I thought weren’t great were the tracks on the 2 cd best of but that wasn’t really Sammy’s fault. I hope we see a new VH album with Dave.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:41 pm
30 seconds of pure rock bliss. Very pleased.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:12 am
So, it IS possible to make new music…
New Hagar album
new Extreme album
Chickenfoot album
…Ed, wake up!
January 23rd, 2009 at 7:53 am
Anyone who thinks Sammy can’t sing has obviously never seen him in concert. Besides being a great singer, he’s a truly nice guy who cares about his fans. He continuously keeps his ticket prices low, in the $20-$40 range, not SCREWING his fans like most bands do….I’ve met him twice and he is truly down to Earth. His concerts are great, just like one big party with thousands of your closest friends. He can jam and he does it for FUN, not for the money. I can’t think of a better lineup for a band, than with Sammy, Joe, Michael and Chad, they’re GONNA ROCK! Sammy bashers, go listen to Bruce Springsteen or something, you suck!
January 23rd, 2009 at 9:18 am
yas yes yes its about time its gona rock
January 23rd, 2009 at 11:45 am
Sammy rocks! All there is to it! Put all four of these guys together, it can do nothing BUT rock!
Sammy bashers, screw off…go listen to your Carpenters albums and keep wishing for the past!
January 23rd, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Sammy did a great job keeping the great Van Halen band going for ten years, he sang great with Van Halen, and he sings great with out them. What was Dave giving you from 1985 to 2007. NOTHING
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:15 pm
I will be there to see that, and to buy the album when its out!!
January 23rd, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Alright.. God Bless this project.
January 23rd, 2009 at 7:14 pm
you can say all these people/ groups are awsum in there own right, and even individually, only time will tell if together they can gell and create the high standard of rock each one has achieved in previous endevours. sammy says the music is like early zepplin, lets hope so! back then rock was rock! screamin guitars, heavy bass riffs, major solo’s, and vocals that mean sumthin! as for the name-i like it! one word, catchy, and easy to remember after 6 or 8 beers. its a hell of a lot better than “the joe rocker van-peppers band”.
January 23rd, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Why do people always turn to what Van Halen’s up to when Sammy (and his stooges) release something? I like Joe ‘Satch’ but it would be interesting to see how he plays music with vocals instead of instrumentals? I think Joe will soon realize how much Eddie carried on his shoulders and what an incredible songwriter Ed is!! But in comparing Eddie to Joe? Well there’s no comparing and Joe would be the 1st to admit that. But it seems this is all Sammy’s doing (scheme!) He’s always trying have a dig at Van Halen!! It must be eating away at him that the 2007/08 Van Halen tour went smoothly and was a triumphant success!! One thing I think the Van Halen haters and Sammy haters would agree is; “please Sammy MOVE ON MAN!!” Enough of the bitterness, your too old, cringe worth and a has-been!!
Van Halen is CLASSIC, for the PEOPLE!!!
In regards to this Chickenfoot tease? No disrespect to Chad Smith (he is a wonderful drummer!) but he sounds thin, there’s no weight to it, it doesn’t thump, move, it’s plain boring!! (proof is the bass is cranked up to try to hide this!!) Probably the recording has something to do about it, but there I go again, making excuses!! You see when one starts to make excuses for another, it proves it aint what it is hyped up to be!!?? (back to the drawing board fellas!!) As far as Sammy, he’s the weakest link in Chickenfoot!! I say they should keep the bands name “Chickenfoot” that way no one can take it seriously!!!
To ClubfootKolby, In regards to what Dave was doing 1985 to 2007? Have a look back, you’ll be amazed how much he has done, after all he IS a workaholic!!! Diamond Dave stops for nobody!! He’s work post Van Halen is more experimental, risk taking, and groundbreaking then people give him credit for!! Even Eddie complemented Dave on that!! Dave isn’t afraid to do something out of the norm, unlike Sammy who is always, the same old, middle of the road, “it never goes anywhere!!”
VAN HALEN FOREVER!!
January 23rd, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Face the facts everybody, there will never be new music from DLR and VH.These guys could not get along before Ed became a control freak.Dave and Ed will self destruct after about 10 days in the studio together. New Sammy, Chickenfoot whatever music is out there is all we are ever gonna get. Let’s face it Balance came out 14 years ago today and since that album Ed has recorded 1 album and 5 songs.Keep resting Ed the music world moves on without you and soon you will be “what ever happened to that guy who smiled all the time playing the guitar”…………..
January 23rd, 2009 at 10:41 pm
Hey Kris, check out I believe on Satch’s Flyin in a Blue Dream album.
January 24th, 2009 at 5:54 am
Ok…I completely agree with Mark Hamlin. I have been to plenty of Sammy shows, and EVERY 1 I have been to has been a PARTY!!!! Isn’t that what rock and roll is all about??? All these cracks on Sammy are RIDICULOUS!!!!!! And to those of you comparing Joe to Eddie?????? You CANNOT compare the two. Eddie WAS the man in his day. But Joe, Have you ever seen him play live???? I love Eddie and am a HUGH VH fan. Joe, right now is in a world of his own!!!! ROCK ON CHICKENFOOT!!!!! Looking forward to the CD release and tour. And for those of you who are bitchin’, STAY HOME and listen to your Billy Joel Albums!!!!!!!!!!
January 24th, 2009 at 6:56 am
Chickenfoot: The band, the album is a good idea. Why not?…Just for fun, for good music…
Another great band/project. We, the Van Halen Fans, are lucky. We have Van Halen and Chickenfoot (with Michael Anthony & Sammy!!).
Sure, Chickenfoot isn´t (and never will be) BIG like Van Halen, but can sounds good.
Great musicians together. Let´s give´em a chance. I like Satriani and I love the Eddie Van Halen music!!
Eddie always will be the king!!
But Van Halen need to do something new…MUSIC!!
The Chickenfoot album? Yes, i´m gonna buy it!!
January 24th, 2009 at 10:10 am
Hey Kris I’M a fan of all three Van Halen singers, good stuff from all, just a little tired of all the Sammy bashing, Sam did do good with Van Halen, so did Dave, and the one cd we got from Gary had some good stuff on it too. Dave was the party with Van Halen, but so was Sammy. Van Halen will be back in 2009.
January 24th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Hey Deja Vu,
I Believe? Is that all? Let’s get one thing straight here, one or two songs doesn’t cut it for me buddy!! Like I said, I love both Ed & Joe. Both a right up there in my book. But Eddie reaches a far wider audience, he revolutionized the guitar and did it in a great Rock n Roll band with brilliantly written songs!! Aside from the groundbreaking “Eruption” the “Jump” solo was just as impressive if not important; In the “Jump” solo Eddie displayed his genius/wizardry guitar playing in a simple (dare I say it!) Pop arrangement! Joe for all his great technical skill is unfortunately only really known to guitar enthusiasts & musicians. And there’s nothing wrong with that!!
But what irks me the most is Sammy and his supporters are always having a dig at what Van Halen are doing, when he releases something, whether it be beer, cloths, food, clubs, boat cruises and…oh almost forgot, music!!! You just don’t get it! Sammy is fake, a corporate SLUT!! Van Halen are THE REAL DEAL, for the PEOPLE!!!!
P.S. ClubfootKolby! The only thing I agree with you is Van Halen WILL be back in 2009!! As for the other things you said, your just as fake as those celebrity bubble gum acts that wear an AC/DC T-Shirt so you can show everybody that you’ve got a HEAVY ROCK side to ya!! Cringe Worth…move on!!
Chickenfoot? They better serve large FRIES with that??!!!
January 25th, 2009 at 10:53 am
Hey Kris, what size is your AC/DC shirt Probably a small and pink. After all there are plenty of Van Halen stuff for sale on the VHND, Like a guitar stap that nobody wants, Some people like bad ass hot sauce, and great Tequila, and new music, and that is not coming from Van Halen anytime soon.Have fun with your pink AC/DC SHIRT
January 25th, 2009 at 11:37 am
Look, think of the live show we’re gonna get…Joe will play a few of his tunes, Sammy will jam a few of his….they’ll do some Van Hagar or Van Halen, maybe a couple of Red Hot Chili Peppers tunes and then their own CHICKENFOOT stuff…..gotta admit, bashers, haters, etc…hard to put a better powerhouse band together…you have one of the greatest front men/lead singers in the history of rock, you have an accomplished guitar virtuoso who can jam and play ANYTHING…you have a great rock and roll bass player and one of the great rock drummers in Chad Smith…put em all together, throw it in the mix of the studio and wait til the come out JAMMING on stage! It’s gonna blow alot of people away, for sure….
Hopefully, they play DTE on a hot summer night!
January 25th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
I like Joe and Mike
January 25th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Kris, you wanted to hear how Satch sounds with vocals so I pointed you in the right direction, no need to be upset that you dont know Satch’s music. As usual, No one was talkin bout VH until you and Brian brought them up. We were just commenting on the news of the chickenfoot album. That being said, Mark R. Hamlin hit the nail on the head. Anytime you get a band like chickenfoot, that combines great musicians and styles your gonna get a great album and rockin tour. Like velvet revolver playin G @ R tunes and STP tunes, hopefully we will get some Satch, VH, RHCPs and Sammy tunes on tour. Talk about a hot summer night, I got a line, you got that pole!!!!
January 25th, 2009 at 5:59 pm
I am not a huge Hagar fan but I got to tell you he carried the 2004 VH tour - he was huge, Eddie was a mess, sometimes I thought Eddie was playing a completely different song than the rest of the band. During the latest tour he was much better, Wolfie was a good influence on the band to just play their songs the right way and not F-around as Eddie did in 2004. Having said that, Eddie has only put out 3 new songs in over 8 years - and they were marginal at best - not including the debacle of VH-III - which were all marginal.
At this point in both their careers I think that Satriani is a much better Guitar player than Eddie - his riffs are incredible, lightning fast and clean. Not to say that Ed can power back with some great new stuff, but when??????? Michael Anthony is the x factor, his powerfull thumping sound along with Satriani’s genious guitar playing, add solid drums this could be good, Reeeealy good. Hagar needs to step up and come up with some decent rock vocals, this worries me a bit, but I definately can’t wait to hear this band play.
January 26th, 2009 at 2:12 am
As far as it is about Edward Van Halen, happy birthaday!!!
I still hope that Your creativity is not gone, and new inspiring music is finally about to come from You.
January 26th, 2009 at 2:14 am
Kris… You say Sammy sells just souvenires and SOME music.
Could you tell me what music have Vah Halen or D. Lee Roth released since 1998???
(2004 cuts are with Sammy).
And all those stuff from Van Halen store online??? I believe Van Halen makes more money on “gift ideas” than on music since more than 10 years…
Chickenfoot is a chance for good and classic hard rock, so hard to find today, with participation of best musicians in the business.
January 26th, 2009 at 6:19 am
Get off your butt eddy and give the fans what they want……. music. You still know what that is dont you
January 26th, 2009 at 11:22 am
lets get the facts straight once and for all.there is no comparing dave to sammy.dave is the true sound of van halen.he started van halen and he will finish it.so,lets go on what we do know.first of all,van halen did give us an awesome tour last summer.dave and eddy spent a lot of time together to do the tour.in fact, way more time than it would take to record a cd.secondly,in eddies last interview,he specifically said that they would pick it up after the wedding, and wolfs graduation.,and we know dave wants to make music.I also beleive that ed is taking his time putting something together for a couple of reasons.1.he wants to do it right this time, after what happened with van halen 3, but with all that said,if it doesnt happen soon after the wedding, it probably will never happen.but for now there is still hope.,otherwise it may be a long summer staring down the barrel of a pabst blue ribbon and a chickenshit cd.
January 26th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
As I understand it this is a side project. That being said, how much new music has Van Halen put out since Sammy left? Five singles and a crappy album that tanked (VH III)? How much new music has Sammy put out? Lots. face it, VH is the ultimate rock band, but they are dysfunctional. Last years tour was a long trip down nostalgia avenue. And how can you tour without Michael Anthony? Don’t count on them putting anything new out with Roth or Haggar, or anyone for that matter. I hope this new Haggar thing rocks.
January 26th, 2009 at 7:49 pm
Ok:
Stop bashing Sammy because you all think Dave is better. Each has their merits and flaws and did different things in VH. The real shame here is how EVH can screw everyone over and think he’s in the right. I’m glad Sammy, Mike and Gary et al have moved on and actually created music (unlike EVH). Satch is a better techinical player then EVH by far. EVH is a pure rock guitarist, yes, but Satch is on the level of Vai, Malmsteen and Petrucci as far as technically gifted guitarists. Just listen to Surfing with the Alien. U think Eddie can pull off that? Being a shredder and being a guitarist are two totally different things. Although Satch has never been in a real band setting recording, he did 2 years with Deep Purple touring and other session artist things with Mick Jagger and others. He’ll have to change modes from shredder to rock guitarist which I’m sure he’ll pull off famously. The clip sounds great. I hope they can pull off a monster of a record.
If only EVH can get his head out of his arse, get over himself, and make amends for what he has done. I’m sure the 12 step program you’ve been on Ed stated that, but you’re too stubborn to realize your HUGE mistakes.
January 26th, 2009 at 9:01 pm
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a great album from Chickenfoot? Wouldn’t it be great if the current VH put out new music we all liked? I do not understand bashing Sammy, Dave, EVH, Joe Satch or Michael Anthony. What else is there to listen to… the New Kids on the Block reunion? Good NEW rock guitar music from either camp would be welcome.I guess I’m lucky because I like all of the parties involved. If any of them come through, it’s a plus.
January 27th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Chickenfoot could be cool! Let’s give ‘em a chance. If Eddie doesn’t want to make a new album this year, Dave should call Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan & Greg Bissonette and reunite the “Eat’em & Smile” band. They could make a KILLER album and AWESOME tour!
January 28th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
I love all the bashing on Sammy for him not being Dave, because it all boils down to who will have an album out in ‘09 that will dominate and who will tour with that same album! Oh and all participants of said band will be sober!
January 28th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
some one should tell DLR to stay home with his ego it to big for VH and he cant sing any more i saw him on the 08 VH tour. he cant hit the high notes any more. If VH came out with a new Album and DLR was singing it would be as bad as GNRs Chinese Democracy. if theres a new album to be made it has to be with Mikey and sammy
January 30th, 2009 at 7:41 am
will vanhalen release new studio album in 2009 all new songs all new music not greatest hits album the fans deserve all new music they have been unfairly treated by the band the record labels and lawyers for too long we should have a vanhalen interview thanks jon macvean po box 434 sparta michigan 49345
February 1st, 2009 at 10:14 pm
What A friggen soap opera,I hope Chicken is good, because honestly, Sammy albums after VH sucked. Sammy is awsome with Van Halen, but solo or with whe wobo, terible. With Van Halen, he is the rerocker, with out he is ther Red talker. Who knows, Chickenfoot might work, Satriani is a great guitar play on his solo stuff. It worked with Roth when he had Steve Vai.
February 4th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
all right sammy
February 6th, 2009 at 10:52 am
ROCK ON, PLEASE COME TO GREENSBORO
February 7th, 2009 at 10:46 am
Humorous! Comparing guitar players. Both outstanding, and both bring something different to the table. I read the question in these comments “U think Eddie can pull off that?” I gotta believe Edward could care less. My question back is, you think Satch could pull off that? He probably could, because most accomplished guitarists have attempted EVH at some point. Vai did it admirable , but certainly not EVH So, Satch could probably “pull off” EVH, but could he or would he have pioneered that sound, feel, and soul? Edward Van Halen’s “brown sound” is one of THEE most identifiable guitar tones, along with his style, out there. I’m mainly referring to the CVH six pack. EVH is cut from an exclusive mold. On the other hand, for me it is sometimes hard to distinguish between many of the highly technical players…sounds to me like they all come from the same melting pot.
February 11th, 2009 at 5:44 am
go chicken foot
February 13th, 2009 at 9:37 am
Look naysayers! I’ve seen ever incarnation of VH,SH,JS, RHCP and a few shows in Cabo. Why complain? Everyone has moved on to other ventures and projects. If you want to make tequila… great, build a better guitar… great. Take off your ’80’s concert jerseys, get your kids to school on time and just relax and enjoy the music. Joe sounds like Ed and Ed sounds like Joe… who gives a shit? The writers of Guitar World and Rolling Stone. Give it a rest. Hey Ed? Keep writing, the fans will still be here. Sam? Good luck with Chickenfoot, can’t wait to hear it!
February 18th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
SOOOO much over analisis..its simple if sammy can write a few catchy songs and satch can write some kick ass riffs this record will be AWESOME. This isnt velvet revolver, these musicians are on a completly different level. Satch and chad r too good to release anything less than spectacular, and have small enough egos to let everyones personality come out musically. Just keep your fingers crossed for sammy. Hes got a great voice but his songwritings pretty iffy. Mikes is a rock.( hes no flea) but very solid. Cant wait to hear a full song!!!!
February 18th, 2009 at 10:42 pm
Its not easy being green as Kermit once sang. Boys and girls, lets not whine too much. Of all the bands/members noted, the thing you complainers forget is that these musicians did something a little better than the rest of us could. Just like sports, they worked a little harder than the rest of us, and they deserve to move up the ladder. That’s why they have a little fame and fortune, some more than others. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
I don’t like baseball, so guess what? Get ready for this man, this is big: I don’t like baseball so I don’t watch it! I am not going to spend an evening cranking on others. The more I try to convince them that they need to see things my way, the more they will realize how much they like baseball and how big of an ass bag I am. Better yet, don’t waste your time pissing and groaning on a website forum speculating about the great unknown. That’s like saying the 2009 world series is going to suck because I hear its going to have two teams and wooden bats. Back to the music, my opinion is it’s got to be better than what I could record. Likewise, I will buy the CD because I am a Satriani fan and its got a hard rock feel to it. Now if Joe and Sam were teaming up with Wilson Philips, I wouldn’t be typing this note trying to save the world from that mess. So its got some talented rock-n-roll type dudes that have been around (almost a little too long,) and that is why I’m interested. If your not interested, these aren’t the droids your looking for. Now on to better things… I have to prove to some other site and the whole world why JBL should be the concert sound, and why butter is superior to margerine, and why dogs are smarter than cats, and what the hell happened to Pepsi’s new logo, and why my opinion is not as good as yours….blah blah snorezzzzz…Apple ipod touch over priced marketing genius,…snore…mud is better than dirt…zzzz…Wolverine…beats..zzz…Teletubbies
February 20th, 2009 at 9:58 am
Chickenfoot updated their website. I cant wait to buy this album in April, and I think it is going to be a great success. These guys all like each other and get along…I think chemistry in a band is huge…makes a rockin’ album.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:38 pm
I love reading all these comments about the comparison’s between Sammy and Dave with Van Halen. In all honesty, what has Dave or Eddie accomplished since Sammy left the band? VH3 didn’t even go platinum and 1 of Dave’s albums went platinum. Dave had one #1 single in his whole career, and that was Jump. Sammy has 7 #1 albums with Van Halen and has sold over 45 million albums while in the band. Before Van Halen he had a solo career that Dave or Eddie wished they had. It’s funny that the people who support Dave are the ones who were bashing him when HE left Van Halen cuz he thought he was the band and they needed him. Turns out that they didn’t and got Sammy to fill his shoes and it became about music again with a musician. Dave is a showman who’s act grew old quick while in Van Halen. 3 great musicians and a circus clown who thought he was Mr. Hollywood. Well what are they doing now? Sammy continues to do what he has done longer than anybody in Van Halen and does it his way. So what if it’s about tequila or partying or about love. Dave talked about whiskey, about a country, and wasn’t talking about love in most of his songs either. Every artist talks about sex, alcohol, and cars. Both did it and were a part of the greatest band in the world. Funny thing is that Eddie ruined this band by being a drunk and a control freak. All 4 had input and then it came down to 1 because Eddie was told by people it’s HIS band. No it was made up of 4 people with the desire to conquer the world and then all it took was 1 to ruin it. The reunion tour was a sham and how many reunion tours do we need to have to prove what? That you need money? No to prove that you are washed up and can’t provide the fans with music and make us wonder if there is something special coming out. There won’t be from Van Halen and thank god Sammy and this Chickenfoot thing is coming out as well as everything else Sammy does. Sammy is about the fans and the music. Dave is about Dave and Eddie is about which beer he can drink out of business. This is 2009, not 1978-1984. That Van Halen era is dead just like the “new” one coming out. Time to put it to bed and just remember the old times for what they were, old times.

I am wondering what planet you live on, where there is a band called Van Halen that had two singers named Roth & Hagar, and that Hagar was the more popular one??
Sammy had 4 number #1 albums with VH, not 7. And while VH sold a ton of albums with when Sam was in the band, most of those albums were the old Roth albums, not the newer Hagar albums.
You said “Before Van Halen he had a solo career that Dave or Eddie wished they had.” LOL! I don’t even know what to say to that one! Sammy’s semi-successful career was NOTHING compared to VH’s legendary, untouchable career in the ’80s. This is a fact. No further explanation is needed.
Then you said “Dave is a showman who’s act grew old quick while in Van Halen.” LOL! Dave was BY FAR THE MOST POPULAR Rock frontman in the world in 1984. This is not even arguable. Sammy was insugnificant compared to him.
You: “The reunion tour was a sham”. HUH?? You’re telling me that my favorite tour I ever saw was a sham? I am 39 years old and hard to please, concert-wise. That last VH tour was 2 hours of absolute VH bliss, and my friends & I thought it was SO much better than the Van Hagar tours.
That’s wonderful that you prefer Hagar, I’m happy for you. But please don’t try to rewrite history.

Wow VH2008, at 39 you saw the best tour ever in your life? That’s terrible. And you do the math.
1)5150 #1
2)OU812 #1
3)For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge #1
4)Live Right Here Right Now #1
5)Balance #1
6)Greatest Hits Vol 1 #1
7)Best of Both Worlds #1
All albums with Dave were never #1. Jump was the only #1 thing Van Halen did with Dave. Thanks to Sammy objecting to a greatest hits album, that finally gave Dave a #1 album. Sammy is a musician, not a frontman and this isn’t 1984. It’s 2009 and Van Halen is washed up. How many “reunion” tours does Van Halen need to do? How about Gary Cherone comes back and they do one with him? They are waiting for Wolfgang to graduate before they do anything? But it was okay to tour while he was in school? Open your eyes and realize van Halen took your money and ran off with it. While they wait for who knows what, sit back, get older and prance around in your silver shiny pants and pretend it’s 1984 all over. Meanwhile, I’ll be at a Sammy show, enjoying music from the past 30 years and then watch Chickenfoot play music and actually watch 4 musicians play music. I bet every Dave fan also likes a good Broadway show too? Good luck waiting for Van Heineken to make music. It just ain’t going to happen period.

To VH2008,
I would like to apologize for insulting you and your beliefs. But as I sit here and read your thread again, you said Van Halen sold a ton of albums while Sammy was in the band, but the majority was with Dave? And what’s the point? EVERY ALBUM Sammy did with Van Halen went platinum and #1. A #1 single sells albums but 1 #1 single in all those years? The planet I’m from is the same planet you and every other Roth fan wishes they could be a part of. Dave was a success from 1978-1984. Sammy was a success from 1985-1996. He was in the band longer and had more commercial success than Dave. What pisses me off is that all these Dave fans think he is god. Well your god tried to ruin the band he helped make famous. And now he is back doing what? Being Eddie’s puppet and waiting for what to happen? Yes all of Dave’s albums went platinum which is great, but he left the band. He is back to do what as I’ve said? Where’s the interviews or the information Dave always delivered? He’s on a gag order just like the Dallas Cowboys. That band now is all smoke without a fire. You want to know why the tour didn’t start right away the first time? Because Dave wanted Mikey back to make it an official reunion tour and Eddie and Al said no. I guess Michael Anthony’s time in the band was worth erasing like they tried to do on VH1 and Women and Children First. Wake up and realize Dave is a cancer to this band and to Eddie. Or is it Eddie that is really the cancer of the all mighty Van Halen? The proof is in the pudding.
