Just came across this site and have to comment. No one in the world can play that with one bass drum. Clearly overdubbing in the intro, not the most amazing either but suits the song perfectly. Anyway, are you a drummer Michael Anderson? There are a lot of drummers out there that can play a flurry of single stroke licks and driving beats on bass drums that is IMPOSSIBLE, yet they can do it. I would love to hear someone like you play a 3 minute song with power behind 16th note triplets on a single bass drum, thru the whole song even at a mere 90bpm and some guys can play much faster. Try it - a "mere cheap trick" "a cheat?" I think not.

Although the technique may have been ahead of its time.... its truly not that incredible. first off.... the intro is nothing more than layered drum tracks. also i would like to ad, if you play the drums you would know that playing double bass is a mere cheap trick. a cheat if you will. there are drummers that have far more superiority as far as independence is concerned for each limb of there body. i mean... even on a major label release you hear many flaws on that recording.

to put it in simplest terms.... there are drummers out there that can do that (hot for the teacher) and more with only a single pedal. i do have to say though... it has never been alex van halen to boast about his skills. its always been the lack minded fan. alex van halen is probably one of the most humble drummers in the industry.

Alex the Best Drumer.
