Van Halen videos made by fans
Here’s a few of the really unique Van Halen videos that are rare and special because they have been made by fans.
If you know of any other homemade Van Halen videos, please post links to them in the Comments section at the bottom of this article.
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
“Crossing Over”:
This killer song is little-known because it’s not on any Van Halen album. It was only released as a bonus track on the Japanese Balance CD. It features Eddie singing, along with Sammy, and also Eddie doing some of the drumming!
This video was made by Youtube user “sphen5150″. He says, “This is the first video I ever made. It’s a Van halen b-side called “Crossing Over”. I made it in class about 2 or 3 years ago.”
“Me Wise Magic”:
Great song that was released on Van Halen’s Best Of, Vol. 1 CD, featuring David Lee Roth back on vocals for the first time since 1984!
This video was made by Youtube user “RRJackson”. He writes: “This is a video I made for “Me Wise Magic” using fan footage from the 2007 tour over clips from the 1931 John Barrymore (Drew Barrymore’s grandfather’s) film, “Svengali.”‘
“Learning to See”:
This song was one of the 3 new songs written in 2004 for Van Halen’s Best of Both Worlds CD set. Features Sammy on vocals and Eddie playing multiple guitar parts.
The creator, youtube user, “sphen5150″, says: “This is a video I made from home self shot video of 4 different Van Halen Shows in 2004 and some other footage traded for which was shot by others. I hope you like it. The sound fades to the audience recording at the ending to incorporate the live ending and vocals to the video. This video was made to represent an old reel to reel film. I hope you enjoy. Please let me know!”
“Respect The Wind”:
This song was written in 1996 for the Twister movie soundtrack. It features Eddie and Alex Van Halen. Very majestic sounding with powerful, inspired guitar playing by Eddie.
Youtube user “5150EVH316″ made this video. He writes: “I was going to try to make a video to represent the awesome instrumental “Respect The Wind”, but what came out of it was more of an EVH/AVH collection of clips. It still looks good, and its an awesome song by Eddie and Alex Van Halen.”
“House of Pain”:
This heavy song is on Van Halen’s 1984 CD. The footage used here, filmed in 1983, is from Van Halen’s archives and remains officially unreleased.
“Panama”:
This classic song and video from 1984 was used by youtube user “mbknowstheway” to create this video.
He says, “I shot my own version of the “Panama” video with a Super 8 camera at age 14 in 1984 with my junior high friends. Here it is remixed with the original Van Halen video.”

See, even Van Halen’s fans have done more than the band has done over the last 10 years.
Do you get it Eddie & Alex, we fan have done more to keep Van Halen in the forefront than you have.
I seriously hope you guys get the message and get off you lazy asses and put something out to make us fans happy.
If it was not for the fans doing things like this you would just be another ordinary band like Kingdom Come.
That would be one word NOTHING!!!!

As much as I am sure the majority of us would love some new product from the band, I think people need to just relax and not get all bent about it. If you haven’t gotten used to the frustration of being a VH fan after all this time, well…lol
Personally, I’m just happy they made it through a tour with Dave, it was a success and I got to see ‘em.
They’ve earned a break. Ed’s just gotten engaged and I’m sure he’s got new EVH gear in the works, so I’m not going to hold my breath for anything music-wise any too quick. Hopeful, but not gonna sweat it.
But at the end of the day, I’m sure they could give a damn what I or anyone else wants, so who cares? Go listen to the first six albums and let whatever happens happen.

That Panama video was the funniest damn thing I’ve seen in a while. I used to do similar goofy assed things when listening to VH (I was 12 in 1984) - I just think it’s hilarious that he recorded it and went back to it 20+ years later to edit it.
The other videos are also well done, especially the Crossing Over and Learning to See vids. Kinda cool to see the previously unseen and unused footage that was in the House of Pain montage.
I think 5150EVH316 is a kid named Mitch in/around Toronto… Mitch, holla at your boy if it’s you!!

MA=VH and iain5150,
Thanks for the comments on my “Panama” video. Very cool to hear you enjoyed it. We had a blast with it!

I want some action! IT didn’t make it onto 5150. The audio quality isn’t that great but it is a cool song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk2oDOThZD4

When I hear “Me Wise Magic” and Michael Anthony on backups it just goes to show how much this band relied on him for great backups. Damn his backup vocals might be the best in ANY band.

redarrow5150, I agree with you about Mike.
I’ve wanted to marry him since I saw the video for Jump when I was 8 years old lol…
All the videos were great, but it also got me thinking once again how this really isn’t “actual” vh news! I know they just finished a tour…a tour with NO NEW MUSIC! Ten years my friends…are you kidding me??? And please don’t remind me that Eddie is getting married
The Panama home video was hilarious! Totally reminds me of something my hubby and his friends would have done back then.

Um, these vids from folks with too much time on their hands are news? Maybe things ARE slow, but I’m not checking this site for that. Put some juicy rumours for the fun of it instead. Then again, something fabricated would be less unusual than the truth with the drama queen that Ed has become….

Micheal Anthony made the first six albums sound the way they do….Go Mikey!!!

What about the “Me Wise Magic” video that someone made a few years back? Not the one posted here….this one had a bunch of video clips that were spliced together very well with the music?
I think someone on the VHML made it.

I liked it that the Crossing Over video has Ghost Hunter footage. My wife and i watch that show religiously and I listen to VH religiously LOL Good job everyone!

We have all complained about Van Halen not releasing a new album in over 10 years, I have done that myself.
But if you want to feel better about this, look at Axl Rose with the new Guns and Roses album Chinese Democracy he has been trying/saying it will be released soon.
He has been saying this since 1994.
When you look at Van Halen at least they are not stringing us by along saying such and sun album will be released soon.

I did enjoy the videos posted! Keep the good work up!

The House of Pain video made my day. Really nice rare footage and outtakes. A great song too.. especially considering it was written for Van Halen 1 instead of 1984.:-)

Actually, Crossing Over wasn’t just a bonus track on the Japanese version of the Balance album. It was also available as a B-side for, I believe it was, the single I Can’t Stop Loving You here in the U.S.

The new album will be called “i heard you missed us were back”

Hey, I did the videos for “Crossing Over” and “Learning To See”. I didn’t expect them to be put up here. I didn’t expect them to get much attention at all. Thanks for the kind words all. I didn’t realize there were more people doing the same. This is kinda cool. There will definitely be more videos from sphen5150!
