  1. Dave VanDo says:

Why would a DLR impersonator be required to sing? Dave doesn’t…

  2. rick says:

I hope it isn’t the Atomic Punks. I have seen them several times and they are awesome.

  3. Adam says:

LOL! But seriously, David Lee Roth is, in many people’s opinion, the best rock ‘n’ roll lead singer ever. He’s more fun than Robert Plant, more entertaining than Steven Tyler, and cooler than Sammy Hagar. (And I DO like Sammy). It’s even hard to imagine any FUTURE rock band ever getting a frontman who’s as good as him. I doubt there will EVER be another singer as unique as Dave… he’s the complete package. Long live DLR!

  4. theREALchris says:

Robert Plant could sing, Sammy could sing, Steven Tyler…well…..Dave could um…Dave could er…Well you’re right, there will be no one as Unique as DLR! He’s no complete package though…How well did he do without VH again? Even Steve Vai couldn’t keep him on the map.

  5. Steve says:

Obviously you people have no idea what singing is! It’s about total conviction in your delivery and having great tone and personality while doing so. No one does it better then Dave! His screams are amazing and his approach to singing is just as awesome as Eddie’s guitar playing. This is why no one can sing with Eddie except for Dave! Roth has amazing power to his voice as well. So take some singing lessons people before you judge anyones vocals. I already sing in a VH tribute called VH in Canada! http://www.myspace.com/vhthetribute

  6. brian says:

Adam is 100% correct. There will never be another Dave.never, never, never! I am a huge fan of VH.I don’t like the idea though.

  7. kyle thompson says:

REALchris is right to some degree. Dave’s solo career was “good” at best and he definitely needs Van Halen. That being said Sammy’s solo career has been “good” at best. (before and after Van Halen) The guy had ONE platnum album ever in his career. (VOA) Sammy fans just don’t get that Dave was the ultimate front man for Van Halen. It just comes down to what version of the band you like.

  8. Bob says:

Is Van Valen secretly looking for a new lead singer again? Maybe you should be looking for a Sammy Hagar impersonator. After all… those were the best of the Van Halen years.

  9. Kenny says:

    Maybe Dave will try out…

  10. Steve says:

    To Bob;
Sammy Hager were the best years for Van Halen? What the hell is that? Maybe if you like lame, boring, predictable songs with the sound of a cat screaming due to it having it’s tail caught in a door vocals!
It was sad when Sammy would try and sound sexy like Roth, and tried to wear tight pants and even grew his hair out like Roth! This proves that even Sammy Hager is a Roth fan! Sammy only bad mouths Roth, for he knows he can never compete with him as a performer, innovative vocalist, or to even have Roth’s charisma!
Roth even inspired Eddie’s playing, for it was full of fire and creativity! When Hager joined, all that was lost, and even the song writing became mediocre!
I do though, like Hager better on his own, for he knows how to write better for his voice. I just saw Hager in concert, and as David Lee Roth said, “Sammy throws a party, I am the party!”

  11. theREALchris says:

Steve, *sigh*. I would love to type so much more, but it’s a waste of time!! I will just say that it’s HAGAR, not Hager. And Kyle, thanks man. You’re right as well. Sammy’s solo careers (I guess he has 2….) are “good” at best. I can’t agree with the Ultimate Frontman being Dave thing you said, but I can agree with the last part. It truly depends on which version you like. Van Hagar for life, Baby!

  12. Steve says:

Yes, I agree Chris, a sigh is all Hagar is worth! lol
I Spell it HAGER! lol, for it’s my dig on his name! lol

You can’t agree on Roth being the ulitmate performer? Obviously you’ve never seen them live with Roth, or Roth live even. Anyone that thinks the Van Hagar days were the best should not even be allowed to utter the words, “Van Halen”, for you know nothing about who they truely are, or what made them famous! Read above messege to bob, explains all.

  13. Steve says:

    Van Hagar fans!
Sure you all know i’m not much of a Van Hagar fan due to it’s lack of lust and fire, but I can say that their “Balance” cd was finally getting into the right direction with songs like, Amsterdam, The Seventh Seal, Don’t Tell me, and Take me back. Figures they would break up before they finally found their nitch.
I think this is why Sammy would still write on his own, for he knows he needs songs that are more rockin to suit his voice, rather then the crappy songs like, Right Now, with it’s ” I just learned how to play the piano intro riff”, and all the rest of the safe, watered down pop rock stuff.

For the record; David Lee Roth’s solo carreer was hugely successful for the first three years, but then bad management, guitarist losing his ablility to play ( Jason Becker) and producing ideas fucked it all up.

  14. kyle thompson says:

And Real Chris that is really all it comes down to which version of the band you like. BOTH Roth and Hagar as solo artist had flashes of success but they BOTH need Van Halen as a whole. I actually have nothing against Sam as a solo artist. I saw him open up for Boston back in 79 and at the top of his game back in 85 with VOA. I just thought the band got soft/pop when he joined Van Halen. They did do some nice material.. (see Steve’s email above) As well as 5150, Best of Both Worlds, and Summer nights.. Just as a whole Roth was better. (just my thoughts) If you didn’t see them back in the day during the Invasion, Fair Warning, and Hide your sheep tour I wouldn’t expect you to understand what I am talking about. Yes I am showing my age:)

  15. chris k says:

Ralph Saenz. The best of all DLR look-a-likes and singers!!!

  16. Adam says:

Unless you witnessed with your own eyes, heard with your own ears, and experienced the feeling of being a fan of the ORIGINAL Van Halen back when it was actually happening can you truly understand how amazing, special, and far superior a band they were to everything that was around at that time and everything ever since.

You can not even begin to explain this to a younger fan who got into VH during the years Sammy was their singer. I don’t blame some of the younger fans for prefering the version of VH that they grew up with. That’s only natural, since they have nothing to compare it to. I’m glad that VH continued to be popular with Sammy. At least they carried on in some form.

But I am so grateful that I grew up during their peak in the 70’s & 80’s before they broke up. Those memories will last a lifetime. Truly legendary, and very special.

  17. Steve says:

I saw Van Halen open for Black Sabbath in 1978! I also seen them here in London, Ontario, Canada headlining in 1979 and 1980. ( which were the best years for VH) , then in Toronto in 1984. Also saw them with Hagar, and i was so bored, nothing like the real Van Halen with Roth singing!

Ralph Saenz looks nothing like Roth, he looks more like singer of White Lion. He does sing Roth good though! If you want to see the best and only “Roth” look a like, go to my myspace page! I rule! lol
There is a reason why everyone up here in Canada fell for thinking I was really David Lee Roth, damn fools! lol

  18. David says:

    hagar sucks

  19. theREALchris says:

Steve we get it….you look like DLR and sing (probably) like him. Awesome. Except for the last part! Your lead guitarist better be half as good as Eddie, nay just as good as Eddie if you want a “career” out of it! Seriously though, I just dig VH, man! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I’m an EVH fan. I don’t care who sings. But I do like me some Sammy. Music (it doesn’t matter who’s) in general went “pop” in the 80s. And then in the 90’s it came back to rock. Like you said, Steve, “Balance” was Awesome. No, I didn’t see VH and Dave in their prime, but I did see the Retro Tour last year. That too, was Awesome. The Sammy Retro Tour I saw in 04, unfortunately, I can’t say the same. And I’m a Sammy Fan!! I saw it twice and therefore went to 2 kick ass parties, but Eddie was too sloppy, and quite frankly, my boy Sammy was a little flat. I say another Sam and Dave tour!!! That was fun! Only now I guess Dave’s band this time would actually be VH.

  20. Steve says:

I’d love to hear the critics, of Roth, to actually try to sing his songs, and do it the way he sang! His approach to singing is powerful, rich in tone, and just as electrifying as Eddie’s guitaring! Roth blended technic with attitude, humor, and personality. He wouldn’t really be Diamond Dave if he didn’t!
People are getting confused, and when they hear Roth adding a more human side to the singing approach, they just are thinking he lacks the ability to sing, not realising this is all done intentionally! He added this side more and more after the first album, for he knew it was selling his persona better! The first few albums show his true potential, especially their first!

  21. theREALchris says:

Ok, Steve. I have to question whether you’re a Dave fan, a Van Halen fan, or the Official DLR PR Representative. When you pull your nose out of Dave’s ass let us know! You’re getting laughable!!!

  22. Steve says:

I’m a Van Halen Fan during the Roth era, for the songs rocked more, and were simpliy more creative! If you ever looked at my myspace page, you’d you who i was! I also played all the guitar on that page too, Eddie is just as much my hero as Dave is! Eddie lost his greatness after Dave left VH.

  23. World's greatest DLR fan says:

Ok, I’d love to do this even though I can’t sing because it would be the closest hope of maybe meeting da king, DLR! OK, but seriously, tribute band? There is already the closest thing to the real, ATOMIC PUNKS. Saw them last summer and was blown away by the singers likeness to DLR, nobody can top him. I’ve seen the contestant wanna be’s on the real tv website and well, . . .he he . . Good Luck!

  24. Blake says:

I am just going to say one thing. If you think that Van Halen was better with Hagar, then you are not a true fan! Sammy Hagar screwed the band up. He had no charisma, and I agree with Steve: Sammy Hagar’s whiny voice pales in comparison to that of Diamond Dave. Oh and one last thing, Dave’s solo career was kick-ass. If you disagree, then I strongly suggest you to go buy Skyscraper or Crazy From the Heat (both are solo albums).
