Yeah half of this list is a load of crap. EVH is the best in my opinion, but a lot of people say otherwise. These people are usually metal heads who aren't in serious bands. Most people are strongly misguided about what makes a great guitar player. It's not about being technically proficient and fast. Yes, that can be a plus, but it isn't everything. As a guitarist who plays constantly and manages a band, I can say that it is very difficult to be truly innovative with an instrument. Most people I jam with and watch play just learn a bunch of popular cover songs and solos. The funny thing is to the average spectator, they are amazing. A truly great guitar player can right catchy and innovative original music, as well as develop his own style and techniques. The biggest thing is the heart and passion that goes into it. It's not what is played, but the way it is played. I'm sure even Eddie would tell you that.

That is not the worst list I have ever seen. There were a few WTF moments, but it was OK.

My top five are:

Eddie Van Halen
Joe Satriani
Jimi Hendrix
Randy Rhoads
Steve Vai (maybe Stevie Ray Vaughan - they were tied for #1 in the world when SRV died)

Nobody will ever aqree who is the "best", as it depends on what style you like and what songs were released featuring the guitarist over various times. I think that Jimi and Eddie both created some magic stuff over time. Eddie's tone, creativiy and overall sound control on the early VH albums was just sensational. Jimi was so inventive and ahed of his time, as was Jeff Beck. Perhaps some guitarists should be moved up or down, but it is like asking someone to compliment an opposition sports team. It's what YOU like.
