“Tora Tora” played backwards

Thursday, 26 June 2008

Van Halen’s 1980 masterpiece, Women And Children First, (The realVan Halen III“), contains the song “Tora Tora”, which, as you all surely know, was a song consisting of Ed tinkering around on the guitar, recorded backwards.

Thankfully, a VH fan has uploaded this “backwords” song backwards, so we can now listen to it forwards - the way Eddie played it.

Listen here.

I knew it was recorded then laid down backwards, but my vinyl was lost shortly after it came out. So I never got to do this. I love it … I love anything “new” from Edward.

I can only imagine what he has in the Vault !!!

    Much thanks to the poster

  2. Guitarman says:

That was cool to hear after all of these years hearing it backwards. It sounds better backwards IMO. Anyway, cool hearing it fowards.

  3. Jim says:

    Wow, that was … disappointing.
What’s with the hate on any other VH beside that with Roth? Gosh.

  6. Blake says:

Very cool. Never heard it backwards (or should I say forward?) before. Thanks for that!

  7. Kenny says:

I was kinda hoping to hear Ed and Dave doing satanic chants.

  8. Daniel E. Barnes says:

That was very cool! It was Edwards guitar wizardry that taught me to write songs like the one I wrote for Kim Kardashian entitled “Kim Kardashian” which Kim has been kind enough to post onto her Official website. Please take a moment to check it out! Click on my name or whatever link is active on my post to listen/view.

  11. TIM MCKENNA says:

IS THAT CONSIDERED NEW MUSIC? DO WE HAVE TO WAIT 10 MORE YEARS UNTIL SOMEBODY SLOWS DOWN INTRUDER?

  12. Layla says:

I had this idea in August 2005 for my “Van Halen Mix 02″. Is someone actualy claiming to have this idea before me? Bad joke…

Just out of curiousity:What chord is Eddie playing in the picture shown?

If you have no idea, I personally think that if you think Eddie is a great guiatr player, you don’t know what you are saying, since you have nothing to base it on.

If you do know, at least you know SOMETHING about guitar so your belief has more justification.

  16. joe says:

The chord is D, I’ve been playin guitar long enough to know eddie’s playin wasn’t all about flash. His mix of flashy antics and rhytmic abilities are still unmatched even to this day IMO.

  17. Sean says:

You’re close. It’s a D with an F# root. I’m not trying to be a jackass, I just thought someone might like to know. Eddie is the best there ever was, and ever will be.
