as an "old " VH fan who saw them way back on their very first UK tour when they supported Black Sabbath, i have to say that it was more than worth a trip to madison square garden in May to witness an awesome show. forget about the perceived "distance" between DLR and EVH - look at the pictures- these guys loved being together on stage again.
forget about the flaws in the sound and some of the delivery - this is how Van Halen were meant to be - never perfect, but with enough edge, guts and energy to convert most people who got within earshot of them.
i'm glad i made the trip from the UK. we may never see another band quite as special as this again. Viva Van Halen.

I have to agree with Tim that, historically, VH seems to have pretty bad arena sound compared to some other big acts. Believe it or not, the best actual sound they ever had when I've seen them live or heard a live recording was an outdoor show on the III tour with Cherone. I saw them in Philly this time, and the mix was bad, with the vocals being drowned out often. I've seen Dave solo before and the band before, and this was not the be-all-end-all show people have been raving about. All the stage banter seemed forced, and it just looked like Dave was on a short leash. Anyone who's seen the greatest frontman ever before must admit that he didn't quite have the larger-than-life, take-no-prisoners attitude he normally has had in the past. And unless he changed it up later in the tour, Eddie's solo is subpar like the last tour. The whole dragged-out feedback thing/weird sounds does not compare to his past solos, which were full of dead-on instrumentals from the albums bridged with melodic passages and more impressive guitar pyrotechnics. Don't get me wrong; the show is still entertaining, but I think some of the possibly biased positive reviews must be tempered by some honest criticism. Thanks.

Saw V H in 1984 when they played Donnington Rock Fedstival. Hot summers day and 'Panama' blew 80,000 away in seconds. Only wish they were looking to bring the tour to the UK but never mind. The live dvd will have to do.

You guys are\really lucky!

i saw them in phily and baltimore and i pride myself on being a huge vh fan, and i gotta say they rocked, i mean it i got goose bumps swear to god goose bumps, however ive seen about 20 or so vh shows over the last 25 years and about 12 of them kicked my ass and the rest were like baltimore, which was a bit dissapointing, not because the band didnt rock,, but they have a knack for having shitty sound sysstems or sound guys one or the other. it got way to loud and distorted. now i know im getting old but it's not so much to loud as it is distorted. hard to hear instruments just flat out shitty! is there anymore veteran vh show goers that have expierenced the same w/ sam and dave era shows?

I was at the November show in Jersey. I have to say Van Halen was the first concert I ever went to in 1984. My cousin Greg who was about 20 at the time took me to the show. I remember it like it was yesterday. The show was at the Garden in NYC. Autograph opened up the show, who's claim to fame was there one hit "Turn up the radio". I remember EDV doing the guitar solo for jump on the keyboard. I was a kid then and I was kid in November at 36 years old. I am just happy my eyes got to once again see magic on stage. What can I say VH brings out the kid in me !

I was lucky enough to finally see the legendary CLASSIC Van Halen back in november on long island , NY. WHAT A SHOW!!!!
From the opening riff of "you really got me" to the confetti closing of "jump" the energy was red hot! It was so good to see eddie and dave on stage again. Being a huge fan of DLR it was great seeing him back to where he's always belonged....in Van Halen! The man looked great and sounded better than i ever heard him. His energy never slowed and to me he's still one of the best frontmen rock ever produced! Eddie Van Halen brought tears to my eyes more than once. Being able to see (to me)the greatest guitarists of all times playing all those classic riffs was overwelming at times....It felt like a dream. He was on point as usual and did not disappoint! Alex is still rock steady...his drum solo kicked ass....and NO ONE left to take a bathroom or beer break while he played...it was that good. Wolfgang was a breath of fresh air and I enjoyed seeing him up on stage jamming with his legendary father and I thought his playing was amazing for his age....man is that kid gonna get a lot of ass! All in all a great show. Everyone looked happy to be back on stage together and I feel so lucky to have witnessed such an amazing rock show. I will never forget it as long as i live. I can only hope the boys get in that studio as soon as possible to FINALLY make the 7th classic VH record. It will feel so good knowing we wont have to suffer through anymore sammy era garbage! LONG LIVE CLASSIC VAN HALEN!!!!!
