Ed heads into rehab … at last

Thursday, 8 March 2007

EdEddie’s getting sober. We could not be more relieved. We love the man, and it has pained us to see him on a downward spiral.

From VH’s official website:

I would like Van Halen fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no Van Halen.

I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I’m doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and I thank you with all my heart.

Love,

Ed

We are pulling for you, Eddie. You can do it. Looking forward to seeing you come out on the other side ready to strap on that Frankenstein and kick some major ass.

(P.S.: When you make that “Amends” list, consider putting Mike’s name on it, OK?)

Sorry Eddie. You’ve let your fans down time and time again. You’re trying to do damage control for this reunion fiasco that you created. This seems like nothing more than some “Britney Spears” rehab stunt. You’ll check out within 48 hours. Thanks for the memories though.

  2. Jack says:

Best of luck Eddie! I wish you the best.
    From one Indo to another.
Ik ben Indo Ik blijf Indo!
    Tot ziens!

  3. Erick says:

Well, Marty your statement is totally uncalled for…..a real fan of =VH= would never type such trash. As for Eddie…I’m glad you decided that getting through life being drunk most of the day isn’t as fun as it was in your youth, take your time….I know that Dave and the guys will be there at the finish line.

    BEST OF LUCK !!

  5. DAN says:

Smokes and liquor go hand in hand. You have to quit both for it to work in my opinion. Some people can not be moderate with these especially with the pressures, access, not having to show up for the 9 to 5 job, and party opportunities in their circles.
But now is the time to put these stinky habits behind and get back to work. Everything has fallen into place for perfect reentry. Wow what an opportunity, with the Hall of Fame! You can’t pass that up and give the spotlight to someone else?
How hard could it be take the family down, tune up before the show and play a couple of songs you know so well??

  6. Marty P. says:

Ah CorvetteDave, if only I were a naive wishfull thinker as you appear to be. The reason I type such ‘trash’ is because I AM a true =VH= fan. Somebody needs to say what needs to be said. By the time he stops being a miserable drunk and gets out of his kissass inner cicle, this ‘reunion’ will be as fun as watching Bob Hope and Milton Berle sing Unchained. (And even then It’ll only last 3 shows before Eddie throws Dave out for the 13th time).

  7. CorvetteDave says:

I agree the truth hurts…and needs to be said, but it just seems so easy to rag on a guy when he’s not himself. And yes, I am very wishful thinker….you have to be to still interested in this soap story that we call “Van Halen.”

  8. S. Granahan says:

Well, I listen to ‘Catherine’ and know Ed poured his soul into that project. I FEEL that piece of music.
Get better soon Ed. Feed your soul. You fed mine with ‘Catherine’. Wish I could return the favor.
Happiness is fleeting, but joy can be forever. I know you’ll understand my meaning.

  9. John says:

Ed, I wish you nothing the best, you have inspired me for many years, I was at the last tour with a Allaccess pass and it eas obvious you were fighting this disease. It was a honour to be so close and listen to your soundcheck, genius.
I hope you can fight this and get rid of the demons.
All the best and I hope to see you back soon!!!!

  10. Kim Newman says:

So glad you’ve taken this step. For your own well being(and no one else’s) I hope you will commit to getting clean. A lot of people care about you (especially your son and girlfriend),it would be nice if you would care about yourself as well. Even if your band doesn’t reunite,it would be so nice to see you healthy again. Godspeed Edward.
