Rock ’n’ Roll Reunion 101
Well, class, it’s been about a week since Van Halen issued an underwhelming press release at around 5:30 p.m. ET on a Friday, in which they announced a summer reunion tour with David Lee Roth, and without much-beloved founding bassist Michael Anthony. There hasn’t been a peep since.
No momentous press conference (complete with a performance, perhaps?). No picture of the new lineup. No tour dates. No revamped official website. No quotes from the loquacious frontman who is returning to his post after a 22-year absence. No official announcement from anyone in the VH camp about the group’s apparent plans to release yet another best-of collection. No clue as to what will go down at next month’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. No sign of new music anywhere in sight.
<SARCASM>Surely, it’s all part of a masterfully crafted plan. If there’s one thing the band has shown us over the years, it’s that no one is more well thought out than Van Halen.</SARCASM>

Sounds like they have something up their sleeve. Looking forward to seeing and hearing what it is. What is Hagar’s take on all this?
Rock on.

since they are getting inducted to the R&R Hall, maybe DLR’s rejoining is part of the master plan … I never did care for the Hagar version of VH … just as I didn’t like Steve Perry’s replacement in Journey … purist I guess

I’m waiting for the tourdates. Hope it won’t take much longer now. I can’t wait to see the real VH.
Maybe they will show up at the Grammys this Sunday!
With the help of a good manager (someone like Doc McGee), they will probably have a perfect plan and they’ll be the band and happening of 2007. Just like KISS in 1996.
Exciting stuff!

David Lee Roth has been a disaster for 20 years now. Sammy is a much better singer and entertainer at this point. I love VH, but Eddie and Alex keep ruining a great thing.

I am an aging VH fan, too. I only got to see them once, “Van Hagar”,Fresno,2nd show for the R.H.R.N tour. I know I should have been Mrs. E. Van Halen…but the boys seem to have gotten a little flakey in the past few years. Eddie, my love, will there really be a summer tour? Or is this just a lack-luster attempt to generate interest?
